I have always been partial to using a gamepad/joystick for gaming (I stated gaming before there was really such a thing as PC gaming and to me it feels more natural). Will PC players have an option to opt to use the new Star Trek: Online console UI/control scheme? I have a XBOX 360 gamepad for my PC and would greatly appreciate being able to use it with the console UI/control scheme on my PC. I know that I can already use gamepad and custom map keys with STO but honestly that is clunk as best and I feel that having the option to use the console UI/control scheme on my PC would greatly enhance my gameplay experience.
I have been a Lifetime Sub since day one and wanted a decent controller scheme (and HUD). Now I see it's coming to the land of consoles, while the PC crowd is stuck with the clunky one that needs a serious overall.
The PC HUD is known for causing lags in frame rates and other issues. It needs reworked. Also, why not include the console HUD and controller scheme for those who connect a controller. The default/revamped K/M HUD could be the default when a controller is not connected. Other games have done similar. Think of how many more users you would pick up (controller support is a hot issue now).
Right now I end up using Pinnacle Game Profiler and it's only an OK solution to a real problem for those of us wanting to play this on a home theater surround sound setup and a 55" LED TV from a comfy couch.
I have both consoles, but then all of my Lifetime Sub benefits become a wash AND I get to start over (3 characters...).
No thanks. If you aren't going to migrate the HUD/control scheme to PC, then at least give the long time/subs a reason to play the console version. Allow a character port one time/one way? something...
I also use Pinnacle to play NeverWinter as well. The Xbox One version looks wretched compared to the PC version. Why can't those controls and HUD be ported over as well?
Sure as long as it doesn't alter in any way the PC keyboard/mouse ability/layout in any way, then I'm all for it.
It's not you- it's me. I just need my space.
Being critical doesn't take skill. Being constructively critical- which is providing alternative solutions or suggestions to a demonstrated problem, however, does.
If people *must* have it, then make it a non-default option. I would rather it stay well away from PC though, so that it doesn't end up diverting the rather limited dev resources from things that most people will make use of. You know, just about anything else in game.

It should not need to alter the keyboard and mouse controls at all. It should be offered as an alternative control scheme for players who want to use a controller. There is no reason why both options can't coexist to accommodate both keyboard/mouse players as well as those who prefer a controller (or those who want both control options).

I agree on that I want it as an option only because I want to have both. I would never suggest or image they keyboard/mouse option being removed from the game just to add the console UI control-scheme as and option for PC players.
Agreed it should only be an additional control option in the game. Some people prefer using a keyboard/mouse while others prefer controllers/gamepads. Just because I enjoy using a controller doesn't mean that everyone does or should be subjected to using one and vice versa for being forced to use the keyboard/mouse if they prefer a controller/gamepad.

Me too, i like both, so i'll love to have a way to change to one or another if i need...
Exactly my thoughts. Give us the best of both worlds. For some situations I would still like a keyboard/mouse but for the core part of gaming I would like to have the option to use a controller as this is my preferred game playing style that I find most natural, comfortable and intuitive for my own self.

Agreed it should be the non default option as PC MMORPG gaming is traditionally played with a keyboard/mouse and the majority of players would most likely prefer to continue using that option (I have no delusions that the larger percentage of gamers prefer or want a controller option on the PC version of STO or other MMMORPG's for that matter). Also keyboard/mouse being the original control scheme is another reason it would remain the default as you can't realistically expect all players to learn a new way to play the game or make them go out and buy a controller. The controller option would just be there for those players who want it an as an alternative option to the default keyboard/mouse control scheme.
As for diverting limited dev resources from other things in the game that is an opinion that we are going to have to just agree to disagree on. The control scheme already exists for the console as it has been developed now and both the PC version of STO and the console version share the same core programming code base so therefore it isn't going to require that much work to add it as an option to the PC version of the game. Also Perfect World is a huge company and makes massive profits from their free to play games and as a result they have plenty of developers, resources and make enough income off the Zen Store alone to afford this option which would help to bring more PC players into the game who might not play if it lacks a controller/gamepad option or those who don't want to shell out money for a console they never wanted to own in the first place (more players = more money so therefore this a good business decision for them to consider).
No thank you. I like the controls on PC just fine.
You prefer the keyboard/mouse and I prefer controllers. No one would be forcing the controller option on you or taking away your keyboard/mouse option away from you. No reason that both types of players can't have what they want nor any reason that one group of players should decide for another group of players how they should play the game.
At the very least, carrying over the "smart" auto-activation feature they've mentioned would be nice; that goes a long way to making STO readily accessible on a gamepad, and removes some of the minutia most folks use keybinds to get around.
Otherwise, options are good; that's why I like account unlocks, play cross-faction, buy balanced cross-faction packs, vary Species/Profession, etc.
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.

You forget that on PS4, you build only for Dualshock. Xbox One? Whatever they call their controller. PC? Pinnacle, XB One, Emulated Dualshock, and all the other controller brands/models out there.
So, unless Direct X has some pretty robust controller scheming (which I guess it doesn't, otherwise the "experiment" with the legacy Xbox 360 controller code would be much more functional), you'd be sucking more resources for less gain getting PC to be "controller ready"...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

Direct X has nothing to do with controllers on a PC/Console be it a keyboard or Gamepad/controller this is simply handled by the games engine and what the devs map the keys to which they never bothered to do with controllers as it was alot of work to do hence the new UI for consoles.
At the end of the day both versions of the game will use the same core game just one build will have a console UI and the other a PC UI.
Now for a long time the games UI has been tightly coded into the games engine hence the bugs that happen when they change something, however they mentioned with the console port they ripped out the UI from the backend of the engine and have in a sense made it a module that hooks into the engine like most modern games this improves performance and make making changes a lot simply.
So if we are getting this upgraded version of the core game in theory the PC version should of had its UI ripped out and made modular too so no reason why they cannot give the option to toggle between the PC UI and the Console you just like ElderScrolls online did but this will be time and effort and I get the impression the PC version will has become the second tier product with the console version be their primary focus.
