I have a new toon that I started during the XP boost... and I took them all the way through "Tangled Webs" and on to the 25th century.
I did have the T1 Connie, true. But I didn't wangle any other sorts of boosts - no gear through the account bank or anything like that.
It was, actually, pretty tough. But it wasn't actually "unplayable". I popped quite a bit, I will admit. Thing is, though, there are practical tactics you can learn for coping with the Tholian and Na'kuhl ships, and even a new player can pick them up quickly enough.
But, yes, it's tougher and more frustrating than it should be, I will grant you that. However. Bonus XP will be over soon, and bonus Commendation XP isn't going to affect levelling, so things will be back to normal.

I was playing through the AoY with no xp boost and it was pretty easy I thought but then I haven't played through the game while the xp boost is going with my AoY since she's been sitting at the ESD and she's only level 11, except with my 60 federation officer and Romulan officer so I wouldn't know about it being tougher with the xp boost. I do admit that I am happy to hear that the bonus xp will be over soon and then I'll get back to playing my AoY when the bonus xp is over
They need to drop the EXP bonuses completely.
NOBODY NEEDS THEM
You level quickly enough
You have the right ship at the right time without it.
New players learn the ropes at the correct rate
Server wide EXP boosts make the game less fun FOR EVERYONE.
I was wondering why the TOS storyline had its difficulty jacked up...
I absolutely noticed how it seemed to be much harder the second time around.

Assuming a new player won't know how to use an account bank is assuming far greater stupidity than even I assume with my incredibly low opinion of human beings in general.
it has nothing to do with "stupidity". consider the following:
the game does not TELL you about your account bank
the game does not TELL you how to get to your bridge
the "bridge" button is virtually HIDDEN in the UI menu
a person does not have to be "stupid" to not know about or how to access their account bank as a new player.
try not to be such a judgemental TRIBBLE when talking about someone new to the game not knowing everything you do.
There's one important thing all players, even new players, have access to: the vendors on 23c ESD that sell white quality gear for every level range. This is more than enough to get you through those 6 missions if you overlevel and start to struggle.

did you actually think before you made that post?
we're talking about people who have only done 4 missions (prior to "tangled webs", where some people are stuggling)
where do you think someone who has only done 4 missions is going to get enough EC to buy all they gear they will need?

The Pioneer only has a handful of slots to fill, you don't need a new deflector and probably can't get a warp core, so selling your old gear and anything you've found in a drop should be enough to get enough stuff to complete the mission, and anyone who purchases the Connie will have auto leveling rare quality phasers, and therfore shouldn't need any white gear.
I'm not the one assuming new players to be clueless morons, that would be you people, I assume new players to have enough of a brain to figure this **** out like I did. All By Myself.
Yeah, when I first started playing one of the first things I did was to click all the UI buttons just to see what they did. Hey there's a drop down... what's in there? "Go to Bridge?" what's that? *click*
Well I didn't start playing my TOS Character until the XP Bonus Event started. You could NOT get a T2 Ship. I had no problem with the Mission. After the 23rd Century story arc, I was dumped INTO the 25th at Level 21. I did pump the Character some upgradable weapons and Ground Equipment.

Oh the tears for a person who forgets things in the game... DUH CRAFT GEAR FOR THE TOONS ON YOUR HIGHER LEVEL TOONS PUT IT IN ACCOUNT BANK WITH DRAW AND EQUIP YOUR LOW LEVEL TOON WITH PURPLE CRAFTED GEAR FOR THIER LEVEL. Wow such drama. I had ZERO problems going through the TOS era stuff by doing this exact same thing.
Double XP really does **** up everything. I actually can't progress in the Rom arc on my TOSling because of ship leveling. I have full MK X gear on it w/ a t5 ship and it still gets obliterated by Mogais or D'Derixs. It's actually easier to kill em on my T4 defiant. And this the exact issue I had on my Rom when using double XP weekend.

um and if you do not have a higher level toon ? Just because you don't have an issue doesn't mean there isn't an issue for other folks
In other words, a totally new player should be able to do the content just fine if they aren't dumb.
Heh, too bad we can't time travel back to when you only had 10 hours of playing time in STO. Odds are good you were"dumb" like that too.
How to play well is "obvious" in hindsight, when you've been doing it for hundreds or even thousands of hours.
When I had 10 hours of play time, I had zero problems. The only time I've *ever* had trouble was in 2000 ish in Everquest and that was only because I was used to text only MMOs and had a hard time adjusting to moving without typing which direction. Overall, games have tooltips, tutorials, and quest text for a reason. It comes down to how well someone can follow simple instructions, and if they can't do that then it doesn't matter how much or how little exp they get because they're still going to struggle for their incompetence.
The game really isn't any harder with the NPCs being level 20 since you have level 20 abilities and an extra trait slot, and the tier 1 and tier 2 ships are really not much different... In fact, aside from hull strength I can't really think of any. The tier 1 pioneer class and the tier 2 Connie both have 2 fore, 2 aft, and 4 device slots, there's just the cruiser command buttons. So what's the crying about? The one shot doomsday style attack (which I let hit me once last night to see... And i still had 15% hull) would still do the same at level 8, or to a t2 at level 20.
What this comes down to is someone complaining that they aren't perceptive enough to see a GIANT GLOWING CONE that has the same cool down as evasive maneuvers, and push ONE button to get out of the way.

You're assuming that 1.) the player has a higher leveled character on the account that can craft decent stuff. 2.) You're also assuming that the player has an account bank. Something that gold and LTS takes for granted cause we get 20 account bank slots for free where as silver players have to buy them from the C store and they only get 10.

Doesn't make it less fun for me. Makes it possible to skip all of the TRIBBLE I have played a bunch of times already so I can just do the endgame stuff that I enjoy.
Um... one question - i did the TOS tutorial 3 times (2x on normal account and 1x on Tribble) and... on normal bridge in TOS era i did not find access to account bank ... also did not find it in TOS era Earth Spacedock...
Maybe i looked wrong, but if me... who plays STO from before Legacy of Romulus could not find it...
... do you really a newbie player will find it (and if he is F2P - will he actually have an account bank) ?
So question is... where is the account bank access in TOS era anyway?

not everyone has access to an account bank only those who A.) subscribe or are life time subscribers get access to the account bank or B.) has to buy the account bank option through the c-store. Also you saying that you find it hard to believe that the xp bonus is making things more difficult, so you are calling all of those liars or maybe thinking that. the xp bonus does change things by making enemies more difficult according to those who are talking about it.
Second I saw people calling new players morons I knew where this thread had gone.

not knowing everything yet does not make you a "clueless moron"
the problem is that cryptics bad design hurts people who dont know how to get around the problems they created with their bad design.
