Firstly, this game has been MY only MMO since pre-launch. I am not a gamer. I'm a trek fan, and I love STO.
This is almost too personal to share, but my beloved mother died tragically when I was 25 (the same year this game launched) and I sank in to alcoholism. Star Trek Online saved me and helped me get off the booze. Long lonely nights of grief getting lost in the fantasy of star trek + the friends I've met here have meant a lot to me.
I am a true blue trekkie and this TOS expansion with the beautifully detailed models of TOS ships has really given this game a "true trek feel." It feels more trek than it ever has before.
I have been astounded by the amount of abuse the devs have taken on these forums. I am not a butt kisser by any means. I have had negative impressions about this game. I didn't always like it. But the Devs have listened and given us a truly amazing trek game. It stands the test of time, kind of like the original and super nintendo games. Although they're simplistic and not as advanced as newer games, the story and content and "feel" make this game timeless. I think STO is slowly becoming a classic!
Before we leave the TOS era I hope by January or maybe next anniversary we get a "legends" addition with TOS movie era interiors and weapons.
The Kelvin timeline weapons and interiors are amazing, but I really want to see the Undiscovered Country era ship weapons and interiors. The new star trek series will be taking place in that era so it might provide an opportunity for STO to nod to that "lost generation", perhaps Shatner may make a Kirk appearance.
Anyways, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, great work. (please give us wrath of khan phasers, both ship and hand held. Those oscillating red/orange pulse beams and the secondary setting can set fire to people like when kirk set fire to the ear slug that came out of checkov.)
hehe.

The Temporal Recruit event is overall a good thing, with the exception of some temporal probe placement issues and the design flaw of not having probes show up in tricorder scans. Fix those and I won't need to go to Reddit to find the obscure locations on large maps like the Kuva'magh episode.
The devs did miss a point in not allowing us access to TOS gear, boffs, and training manuals after we leave the TOS era. Earth Spacedock should have either new vendors or tabs added to the existing vendors to address this. They should also add turrets and blue omni beams to complete our ship loadouts.
Overall, I'm happy with this expansion and I'd love to see the devs add more TOS era episodes.
The thing that got me with AoY, was their attention to detail.
Some of the scenes, and environments in the 6 mission arc were ripped directly from the screen.
Not to mention the work they did on the visual and sound effects.
I truly did enjoy revisiting my favorite era.
My only criticism is that I wished it could've been longer !
And I wish we had a way to go back to the 23c.
I did notice that any missions that take place in the 23rd Century, including the pre-existing ones like Night of the Comet and Past Imperfect, have some added loot drops of era appropriate style. I ran Past Imperfect on my main and came out of it with a couple white quality Type 3 Phaser Rifles and an old school TOS Small Hypo.

Hell, I've enjoyed it so much that I even bought the lifetime subscription! You guys have really improved this game since the last time I played which was around the original release before it went free to play.
Now... if only the Kelvin Enterprise was cheaper I might actually get that ship... or I may do it nevertheless just to have it.
It was poorly done.
Nice sig btw why I am quoting you.

I could not agree more! I noticed in the space dock during the TOS missions you can get TOS blue canons and turrets, but it would take staying in the first five missions and selling everything for a while before you can purchase tos weapons to bring with you to the 25th century....
I would love a full TOS weaponry ship loadout.
But also: (And I'm reiterating here again), we never really know when the wrath of khan style phasers were invented. The TOS era we are playing is taking place after the Enterprise' five year mission, so it's before the motion picture but not long before... And so we can reasonably see Wrath of Khan style Phasers for ships and hand weapons integrated in to the current content, just like in the picture on GoodScotch's signature...
I would also love a TOS The motion picture bridge, and Undiscovered country bridge for my excelsior. The Motion Picture/Wrath of Khan bridge packs would suit the TOS T6 battle cruiser... Just saying. I always buy interiors, because it's an immersive experience. I think with the new expansion and more voice cameo's we have more true trekkies coming onboard for STO and so they can and should include authentic cannon content.

The USS Kelvin was the branching point in the timeline. So as that was what diverted it, the future people are identifying anything after that event as Kelvin Timeline because of that one incident. As to the aliens from Andromeda... those were the Kelvans. With an A.

I will say though that I'm disappointed there isn't MORE missions at higher levels in the 23c. era/for the 23c. faction; and I'm also disappointed there's no way to procure the 23c. Boff skills or 23c. equipment (without jumping through major hoops using the shared bank and creating temp characters just to do this) once a 23c. faction character is in the 'modern' 25th century era.
You Devs made an STF "The Battle at Procyon V" where you have the timeline reset itself 3 TIMES in succession. So please don't trot out the "Allowing you to go back, gain access via time travel would break immersion/game continuity etc."
I would hope the STO Dev Team, Lead Designers, Producers and Managers would please consider:
- More (at higher level) episodes taking place IN the TOS 23rd century era proper.
- A proper TOS 23 Century themed social zone (like ESD, the Klingon first City, the Romulan Flotilla, New Romulus, et. al.) that the UFP 23c. faction members can access that also provides access to the 23c. Boff Skills, and TOS themed 23c. Space and Ground gear.
Thanks again for the good job you did in recapturing the look/feel/sights/sounds of the TOS TV series era.
Please consider giving us more of this era in the future of STO development and give those who really enjoy the new faction full and proper access to the Skills/Gear that you added to provide that feel to the game.
PWE ARC Drone says: "Your STO forum community as you have known it is ended...Display names are irrelevant...Any further sense of community is irrelevant...Resistance is futile...You will be assimilated..."
Nope. Its Kelvan with an A.

Fun times are being had with my new toon.
I'd like nothing better than to stay in the 23rd century. Very well done Devs, Thank You.
The major hoop jumping will work for weapons, ship equipment, ground equipment, ground weapons, kit modules, kits (why would you'd do that for single slot ones?) but not for the Bridge officers or their abilities, because they bind-to-character on pick up.
Other then not being able to turn off the 'film-grain' yeah, it was well done and very immersive, up until the na'kuhl turn up at least.
I don't buy whatever excuse they are using that a standard issue 23c ship can hurt, let alone destroy, a 29c time-traveling ship from the future.
That's like expecting a roman legionnaire to destroy a modern tank, utterly daft.
except a sword and wooden shield are vastly different from a cannon and explosive-reactive armor, whereas a focused particle beam is a focused particle beam, regardless of what century it comes from
