It isn't just the 13 missions, it is the fact that Geko lied.
If your point was to bash Geko, you could have picked any number of other things he's said over the years. I really hope that wasn't your whole reason for this.
Geko Bashing is required on the forums.
He will never admit it publically, but he runs on spite.
He was in his position since the start of the game. He basically influced or made pretty much any major decision for this game. He is who prototyped the space combat system that we all love to FAW ourselves through. He has seen this game through different producers, different mother companies, the free-to-play transition, every level cap increase, the major rebalances and skill system overhauls, expansions, seasonal content, revamped missions, new systems, removal of the Exploration system, lockboxes. He lived through every crisis this game ever had, real or imagined.
I imagine almost every major decision or change in this game he had to hear forum rage, and for many years now he has been attacked directly as someone that needs to go and ruins everything, people dissecting his every word in interviews, blog posts or forum posts and finding any flaw or fault in it that might exist.
And yet, the game is still running. He's still in the position he always was in. He still is a key decision maker. And the game has thrived. It's profitable, it's the only real Star Trek MMO on the market. He and his team just released an expansion devoted to the 50th Anniversary. They have announced a different expansion of sorts - a console release of the game. If that works out, this game might grow in ways that no one would have guessed a year go.
People may hate him, and think he is doing it wrong. But he's still there, the game is still there. Maybe, just maybe, he's doing something right, too. Maybe one shouldn't forget - that every feature you love about this game - he probably had a part in making it, too, directly or indirectly.
I guess Captain Geko is kinda like the White Whale for the Forum Ahabs... And who can blame them, it almost worked for Picard, Khan, the other timeline's Khan and the Picard clone.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
Have you lost your vulcan mind? This is the 50th anniversary year, all kinds of mainstream and media attention is on Star Trek in general and that is prime opportunity to make a play for new players. This combination of nostalgia for the original and a bone tossed to the new movies (hate them though many classic fans do, including me) is exactly what they needed to do. It makes a hell of a lot more sense than Cardassians or whatever that some people are whining for, which only appeals to fans of DS9 which was 20 years ago and forgotten by most of the mainstream.
It's a good thing the company didn't listen to you, or they'd have lost a huge chunk of money pandering to people who want to keep up with the Cardassians instead of classic and future Star Trek.
sounds logically.
From this point of view Cryptic made a smart decision.
It isn't just the 13 missions, it is the fact that Geko lied.
He said the TOS faction is AT LEAST as much of a faction
as the Romulans. It's not. If he hadn't lied, that wouldn't
be that big of a deal.
Big words. And I actually agree with Geko (who said that?!) for a change. Seriously, TOS faction can be said to be as much a faction as the Romulans are: either you don't see 'em as a faction at all, or factions inherently allied to others. It's just word-play. For you to say Geko flat-out 'lied,' at least, is way over-the-top.
I wouldn't say he lied, but I certainly think his definition of a faction is completely out of touch with that of the players.

I agree; in all honesty, it's more like a dressed-up Delta-recruit event, really. But this one comes with lotsa cool retro-ships, retro-gear, and an endgame Connie. And an ever-so-cool, 'Scott-me-up, Beamie' TOS transporter visual and matching sound. And I'm loving it! And it's a perfect tribute to the era.
It's been confirmed multiple times that there are more TOS missions past the first 6 and you do get to return to the 23rd century at some point.
Except you there aren't, and you don't.

BS. He lied through his teeth and he knew it when he did. That isn't even remotely debatable. Stop making excuses for it

So what you're saying is, Geko is practically Dr Evil and the itch that won't go away, all rolled into one?
To make this Expansion the equivalent to LoR they would need to neglect it and that Faction ignored forever more.
Seriously though, I have been advocating that the premise for this Expansion fits nicely into what CBS is going to do with its new Series. My understanding is that each Season will be self-contained and each may be jumping around though different Eras in the Star Trek universe.
I believe we can count on Yesterday's War to be doing a lot of that shunting around through different times.
Any thoughts?

"Look at Al Rivera over there eating crackers like he owns the place."
And the crackers aren't even Saltines. The nerve of that guy!
you think THATs bad look what he is putting on those crackers, imported baluga caviar? and whats that he is drinking a fine wine? just the nerve youd think he was the emporer of STO or something
Gene Roddenberry only ate cheddar cheese on his crackers. This is just another example of capitalist greed ruining the untarnished reputation of Real(tm) Star Trek.
My Romulan toons have a Flotilla, and Romulan Command to go to that are exclusively for them. TOS toons can't even access c23 ESD after hitting level 10. That's your answer right there.
All I got are ritz and spray cheese! I swear, this is the fault of yet another lockbox!
Dang, all I got is a glass of skim milk and a oreo.
The Real Question here is..., Why Does Anybody Really Give A Krap?
So the Gecko got excited and exaggerated (as usual), get over it or not, play the new stuff or not, but going on and on about it is just a waste of bytes.
I'd rather praise what They did give us and hope for more.

AoY is just another Tutorial for the federation and isn't even a proper expansion like LoR is and has way more Missions than what AoY has right now

There are more than those 6 missions. There are also the 3 missions of Yesterday's War.
I guess by your own standard that means you're lying through your teeth. Liar liar, pants on fire.

I really didn't give a krap what They called it, as long as t had a whole bunch of TOS stuff attached to it.
And it does...
So Mr. Gecko can call it the "Queen Mary" for all I care.
we have a winner.. you are clearly the target audience for whom this "expansion" was designed. players happy to spend money on some looks, another fine example of how star barbie this star trek game has become. which is why pwe can cash in on the 50th anniversary so easily, adding no playable content of comparable quality to LoR or Delta, and quite clearly using the pc fan base as a way to fund the console port. i guess the lack of effort they put into this "expansion" is directly proportional to the minimum quality of content, accepted by the paying community.
It doesn't matter if Geko and the rest of the populace have different definitions of faction. The only thing that matters is if we are satisfied with the compromise of the TOS style. The only options was either what we got or no TOS style. It would be nice if we spent more time in the 23rd Century and got more than 9 missions and 2 queues for AoY. However, the game can't support more than a full faction.
Alternate styles seems to be the way of the future for possible factions that we might want. There is not enough support to introduce the Cardassian faction, Dominion faction, Borg Cooperative faction, or whatever faction someone might want in the game. However, Cardassian style, Dominion style, Borg Cooperative style, and whatever style that we might want is possible. Start the styles off at level 40 or 50 and less ships would be needed,

Comparable quality to LoR OR DELTA??? You mean Delta Rising, the expansion that killed the game and gave us all cancer and destroyed the ozone layer and sparked global thermonuclear war? The one that ate babies and worshipped Satan and canceled Christmas? Or at least, if you listened to the Cryptic haters tell it... now all of a sudden it's a quality standard to be held as an example of what should be done that the new expansion fails to meet?
Man, just own the fact that you love to bash whatever is the current thing, because you're a sad little troll. You just showed your cards.
maybe worth remembering the real issue folks had with delta.. was the changes they made to xp.. up until that point everyone was loving it!
also may be worth having a look at my posting history before throwing the troll hammer.. i look at things as they are. you can say what you like.. but in balance, no matter how you cut it, like for like.. there is far less substance to this expansion than there was to delta and lor. that isn't just an opinion.. it is a simple analysis. and when that is looked at relative to only lor.. stand alone content for the roms.. it is an even clearer picture.
but hey.. you keep that telling yourself its value for money.. that is just an opinion, and 1 i dont share.
also worth noting, once this temporal agent event is over, that will reduce the weight of this expansion, one hell of a lot, for folk rolling AOY characters.
lol.. sorry for the wall of text..
my concern is simple.. this is being played out as an expansion to bring in new players.. but who are these new players? anyone that already loves this game is likely here already, so if they are looking at new new players..?? also they didn't take on any new staff did they, in fact did we not lose a couple earlier this year? so all the work that has been getting done to port to console must have taken time away from their ability to work on this expansion, i'm all up for defending something i love, or trying to rationalise things, but there are limits, and some things i just can't defend.
i love TOS, and the stuff they have done is a cool tip of the hat to that era, but that is all it is. i just can't add it up, or weight it out as anything near comparable to what has previously been released as an expansion or faction. if you look at it as a completely new player, placing all 3 expansions side by side for comparison, they are clearly not equal.
I say yes. The regular story missions have a much different feel based on this new start. To me, AoY feels like the best version of the story yet. And I felt the Romulan campaign was a better version of the main campaign also. So to me, this gives me what LoR did.
This expansion is nowhere near what Legacy of Romulus was. That being said it's better then Delta Rising because it doesn't add an excessive grind and makes the first 10 levels fresh. If they would have put 20 more levels in to the starting experience it would be much closer to Legacy of Romulus. Also TOS toons are all Fed so it only adds to the Federation faction and further weakens the KDF faction.
