Hello all. Is Windows XP still being supported by STO? I am unable to load the game to completion. I can patch and get to the loading screen but the game crashes about 2/3 to 3/4 way while loading. Any info is appreciated.
Its happening to me too I have contacted support but as usual couldnt get a straight answer. Thing is I was just on earlier and now I crash every time I try to load.I can only guess that the system is crashing because of the new release today.
To be perfectly honest, while I know that replacing an OS can be not cheap, easy, and annoying, to say nothing of not necessarily in everyone's comfort zone of activities, people really should upgrade away from Windows XP as soon as they feasibly can.
Microsoft dropped all official support for XP back in April of 2014. That means that there's been two years for people with less-than-sterling intent to find and develop exploits for any security loopholes left in XP. Every day you have an XP machine running is a day that you, and any computer it's networked with in your house, has a massive security risk connected to it. To say nothing of the fact that more and more programs will also stop supporting XP, either with no future updates or simply not being able to run on it out of the box.
Like I said, I know that there are a lot of reasons why someone might still be running XP, but the reasons not to are only growing greater by the day.
I do understand. What I need to know is Cryptic still supporting XP for STO. I have been away for awhile so I don't know if they dropped XP like they Macs.
Unfortunately we are no longer able to offer support for Windows XP systems. While we haven't intentionally upped the minimum requirements to exclude Win XP, some of the recent additions and improvements we've made to the game incorporate technologies that Win XP is incapable of. You can try manually lowering the game settings as much as possible which might allow you to play.
Windows XP is an extremely old operating system, first released in 2001. Microsoft stopped updating the OS in 2009, and officially stopped support for it in 2014. Hardware manufacturers also stopped updating their software for XP around the same time. It's because of this lack of updates that the operating system itself may not be able to handle the updated technology that our games are incorporating.
I liked Win XP. It was a pretty good OS while it was still supported by MS. I basically used it from 2001 through 2010. I skipped Vista altogether and didn't not bother upgrading to Windows 7 until SP1 was released.
Speaking of Win 7... I got one more PC to upgrade to Win 10 for free. Doing so tonight.
Ok I want to give some input here I do realize it makes sense to upgrade to Windows 7 or better but for some of us at this point it isn't possible due to many reasons . I also want to add that if they haven't excluded Xp and rolled a patch so we may be able to continue to play then we should be able to play they need to fix this issue .
