Are you implying that it's not an awe inspiring ship? 'Cos it is.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Like, I know everyone is quick to make fun of the J's relative flatness and thinness, but guys.
It's gigantic.
Like, even its thinnest points are still far more substantial than the pylons on the largest playable Federation ships.
So yeah, everyone's all like, "Oh it's so stretched out!" Comparitively, sure.
But practically speaking? I'm pretty sure it can physically steamroll almost any other ship in the game.
I just..... really don't get what the insults and ribbing is really getting at here.
@sorceror01 its just a really fugly design. I bet when it was in.the background in Enterprise they never thought it would actually be used again, hence why they went so far forward and said it was the J as well.. we have G, H, and I still to get through

Even that I can barely agree with, though. What, precisely, is ugly about it? It's sleek, aerodynamic, exemplifies the most iconic signature design elements of Star Trek ships, and is futuristic-looking even by Trek standards.
It's practically a Sovereign on steroids, design-wise.
It looks like a pancake with frozen ermm.. syrup droppings hanging.out of the back for a pylon and nacelles. Not the ugliest trek ship, lets not forgot the gomtuu which looks like flying TRIBBLE. I think the futuristic looking even by trek standards is what it is.. we dont have the 3 evolutions in between to gradually get to it. Imagine if the 85 corolla design was used until last year then POW 2016 model with completely new design.
I dunno, I guess when I look at it, I don't really judge it by its looks. I just think to myself, "Whoa! Why is it like that? What's it made of? What can it do?"
And then just sort of build my opinion from there.
Like, this is Star Trek, guys. Looks are one thing, but I'd like to think they're not that important. There are other qualities that should be taken into account, too.
And still better looking than the Excelsior or Galaxy.

It is actually, "flatter on the outside".... I suspect it incorporates some iconia "floating attachments" tech in it, the nacelles look so distorted...

There were plenty of clues in the appearances it had and what Daniels could do. Plus it's so much more advanced than its predecessors, by hundreds of years. I consider its interior a bit nonlinear. This is a technology level that's mastered spacetime and causality. They fight beings that can terraform thousands of cubic lightyears of space, and they win.
Ask yourself where that window really is on a hull so flat. Or if you're looking in an objectively different direction than that window externally presents itself as being oriented.
Doug's design is actually quite well thought out, and very well designed. But keep in mind, the original was made in a couple of hours, because the producers demanded it on short notice.
The design is admittedly very divisive. People seem to either love it or hate it.
But
It grows on you. When I started modeling it, I had enough people stop by my desk to tell me they hated the design, that I put a sign on the back of my chair that said, "I know you don't like the design, I don't care, I still have to build it."
However, after a few weeks of seeing it in team meetings, and walking past my desk, not only did people shut up about not liking it, but many who actively disliked it to start with, liked it quite a bit now.
I'm in that camp too. I didn't hate it, but it was strange for an Enterprise. But after building it, I really do believe it's a brilliant bit of design.
Give it time, and don't hate it just because that's what everyone else is saying.
I like it. And I loved Drexler's NX-refit design too (it was intented for a 5th season of Enterprise that never happened), which was basically the NX-class merged with the Constitution-class.
And let's all remember that the original Enterprise looked a lot like two paper plates hooked up to a motorcycle light and two vibrators.

You have to remember the thing is multitimes the size of tbe Vengence which is the size of a city block and maybe nearly as big as DS9.
So each deck is basically the size of a small city. 4 decks is like New York stacked on top of Tokyo, stacked on top of Toronto, stacked on top of Montreal. You don't need many decks when your built like that.

That's the saucer above them, they're in the little spine thing on the underside of the ship.

The ship was supposed to deliberately evoke the lines of the NX-01, that being just the saucer and nacelles with no secondary hiull. Given that it was an episode of Enterprise with absolutely no intention of ever being reused elsewhere. So, yes, it is a giant flying pizza cutter.
I thought it was great until I saw it in game. If you can pick the angle and light it well, it looks nice. Flying around it and seeing it in all its pancake-ness. Eugh. Esp now they've made it tiny.

I always thought Gomtuu looked like a high tech pine cone myself.
The Malon takes first place for the ugliest ship. I mean, it has toxic shate coming out of it.
