Lock box/Lobi Tac Escorts/Destroyers?

dykerasdykeras Member Posts: 326 Arc User
Been out of the game for a while (since the start of DR), and wondering about the new lock box/Lobi Escorts/Destroyers ...

Are any 'stand out' decent ships? I loved the Temporal Destroyer, but i'm guessing even at T5u it is outdated, so wondering if any other ship at T6 is similar but on a higher level?

I main a Romulan, and I do have my eye on the Morrigu but no decision made yet.

It's a crusier, but for - SCIENCE! - the Paradox is an excellent cross-faction ship. Lobi store or the exchange.

The Manasa is a nice 5:2 weapons tacship for a dual heavy cannons build, its mastery trait grants hardness + regen to the forward shields when you use CRF / CSV. Lock box or the exchange - http://sto.gamepedia.com/Vaadwaur_Manasa_Assault_Escort

If you add the Astika for lobi you can also use the 2-console set for better area attacks from the barrage and also an assault mode that trades mobility for even more shield buffs + added crit chance & damage - http://sto.gamepedia.com/Vaadwaur_Artillery_Set

Morrigu has an awesome Starship Trait if you get the C-Store version (energy weapons drain less power and fire faster when using EPtW), and is a pretty nice ship in and of itself. Flexible layout with the DPS enhancing Intelligence Hybrid BOff slot on a Universal Lt. Comm. There have been entirely new Bridge Officer Abilities since you left, which require certain slots to be used, and the Morrigu has the second-highest rank of the favorite type for energy DPSer's.

Krenim Imperium Warship is one of the best out there from what I've seen if you're seeking DPS. People have set a fair number of records with this destroyer/warship type ship.

The Temporal Destroyer is still worth using, and it seems like the Mannheim Device console power was finally changed to not be a total POS and it's now part of a very nice 3 piece set combining it with the Tipler Cylinder, and the Temporal Rift Stabilizer from the Paradox.

The Hazari Destroyer is more well rounded than most Escorts and behaves a lot like the Temporal Destroyer, if you're looking for something close to a T-6 upgrade for it that may be the ship you want.

T5U is pretty solid, it gets the HP upgrade, lots of console slots- they lack the T6 option for speciality seats, but they're perfectly viable. Also - no new traits, and there's some good ones, but you can play without reciprocity.
Fate - protects fools, small children, and ships named Enterprise Will Riker

from lock box and promo boxes. lobi is actually the big reason people should open those boxes, not the 0.05 chance to maybe win a ship ... and getting the ships from exc. would be cheaper then collecting the lobi.

i use lobi only for char. bound space & ground items

Prepare to open a lot of lock/promo boxes for enough lobi to buy a ship there. Buying keys will either cost you alot of EC/Zen/Dil/real money. Cryptic does run 20% off sales in the lobi store every now and then. You could save a few hundred lobi with some patience.

And as stated above, consider any ship you get out of a lockbox as a huge lucky bonus. There have been people who've opened thousands of boxes and gotten none; and then someone else who got 2 ships in 3 boxes. I think the stated 5% chance is really overstating your odds. More like 0.5%
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

All my romulan toons use the morrigu. It's a pretty freaking awesome ship that flys well, looks sexy, has good boff layout, has intel capability...and it's trait is one of the must have ones. So basically, you can't go wrong with this ship. Also the two piece bonus if you have the valdore console is pretty sweet (and you should get the valdore console because that is just OP).

Looking at the Morrigu and I don't see the appeal?

4:3 weapons load out - As an Escort/Warbird i'd prefer a 5:2 and run cannons
14 Turn rate is terrible, forcing you to use Beams (Which I hate on my Tac ships)

I have been recommended the Lobi store Herald Raider... 5:1 load out, extra flank damage and a fun to use console which gives 25% cannon damage - Seems to tick all my boxes

Morrigu is one of the best ships in the game hands down for Beams or Cannons.

It's turn rate is more then sufficent for a front facing build, it's BoFF and Console layout are very flexible, the trait is awesome, and so is the Console.

The Morrigu is hands down superior to any lobi or lock box destroyer. Absolutely, without a doubt one of the very best ships in STO. I agree completely with Napalm, you throw on the 2pc bonus with the Valdor console and you have an incredibly durable ship that can vape anything in an instant. The Morrigu is the most powerful C-Store ship I own, in my opinion it's maneuverability, console and trait even put it ahead of the mighty Scimitar.
    Insert witty signature line here.

I love my Tal Shiar Adapted Destroyer to bits (literally... I blow it up all the time :dizzy::tongue:). The shrapnel missiles and indoctrination nanites are a source of glee every time I click them. But I wont' dispute the Morrigu is the better killing machine.

Thought I suspect I will be sinking serious bank into kitting out a KT Romulan ship when the option becomes available.
