error 36:a file is locked and canot be open for writing

as the title implies, i am getting error 36 when trying to patch, started today when i tried to patch after mainteneance, was not happening yesterday, although i kept getting a cryptic bug error and crashing to desktop when trying to login to my character, coincidence? maybe...
i hit launch, tried to connect to patch server and gives the following...
connecting....
version(to fast for me to copy/paste)
connecting....
mirroring....(again, to fast for me to copy/paste)
error 36:a file is locked and cannot be opened for writing.. restarting in 8 seconds
endless loop... ad infinitim

    If you have crashed and then run into Error 36, you may need to wait for the Error Reporting window to go away, or to close it when it's finished.

    its not a crash it just loops over and over in the launcher when it "finishes" patching

    I'm having the same problem. I've run "force verify", "run as administrator," I've deleted the *.dll file it referenced and ran the patch again...same problem. Support told me to uninstall / re-install the game. Really? Any other less-extreme ideas?

    I am having the same issue. I have had this problem in the past and found online someone suggested deleting all the .hogg files in the Piggs directory and update. It worked in the past but I have done it 2 times and still looping. Any other ideas???

    once I found something running in the background through the task manager..I force closed everything linked to te game and arc restarted my PC and then launched..It worked..You can try that.JUST A SUGGESTION..

    ok I have no idea if it makes any difference or not but I restarted my puter and it updated. After a restart and update it seems to work fine.... for now. Hope this helps the next person.
