I expected them to wait with it until after the summer event, to ensure that the event itself concludes with as few hitches as possible.
Still, now I can mark it down in my calendar. I can't wait!

Agreed. While it is nice to see it coming out earlier than anticipated, I am concerned if this is going to end up being rushed out the door. I'll just have to wait and see.

That is indeed a bit unusual. Because of the summer event i expected AoY 2-3 weeks later.
IIRC, the Delta Agent stuff ran partly in the Summer Event window as well. I know I unlocked the Event Store (so I could get me Account Event ships) by going to Risa with my Delta character.

Bad point: Too soon, some quirks in the new missions won't be fixed in time. And it's not reassuring for the number of missions of this expansion, both TOS and in general. I sincerely hope for a pleasant surprise.

Just a thought -- probably releasing on 7/6 instead of 7/5 because 7/4 is a holiday in the U.S.
July 4th is a holiday for the US, so that's why they are releasing it on a Wednesday. It gives them Tuesday to get things ready.

Now, how do I juggle real life with my little obsession ? Things to do, places to see !
6 weeks, seems about normal. They usually give the summer and winter events 40-ish days so that you only need to participate 25 of those days to earn the reward. The Devs know folks are busy during the summer and when the winter event rolls around so they give a couple weeks leeway.
Since I only need to run Risa once a day for 25 days out of the 42 it will run, the game being "down" for even a week is no big deal. Each run will take 3-4 minutes to get what I want out of it and I may even be able to do that before any scheduled maintenance in the morning. I will of course be running Risa for some marks on alts that need them but that's something that isn't a priority.
Anyway, I find this really odd that you're going to release anything new during an event. A FE I could see, but anything larger than a small bug patch and problems can crop up. And likely will.
I can already hear the cries of many a player when the game is down for most of AoY release day, and then has to go down again the very next day for a patch. Not to mention that if things don't go smoothly, potentially Friday as well. With any luck the problems will be fixed before the weekend, otherwise folks could lose 5 days of Risa time and their minds will explode. Followed closely by their fingers typing up their opinion of the parentage of the Devs here on the forums.
Folks may also be split on what to do, play through the event or play the new expansion. The metrics may later show that it's not such a good idea to do this, or it may show otherwise, who knows.
As for me, I'm probably the only one that'll do this, but I honestly can't see myself playing AoY until the Summer Event ends anyway. I guess I will *have* to make any TOS alts I want so they can get to Risa and earn some marks as well. Maybe even open the event store, but that'll consist of me getting to the appropriate level and then parking them on Risa. They won't be played through normal content for some time.
And that's even if I can MAKE any TOS alts. Well, aside from the (likely) free slot they will give everyone when AoY launches. Since I'm sitting at the limit for the number of characters I can have (yes, I have 51 characters) making TOS altS may be out of the question. I would like to make more than one, and I will have to be able to make more than one if I'm going to throw $130 at that AoY pack. Buying a $130 pack for one character simply isn't going to happen. Oh sure, other characters can use the T6 ships and all alts can use the T1-5 ships for Admiralty. The uniforms are good, but I already have current characters in outfits I like. Titles are next to useless, but still something they can all use. New pack requires new alts.
If they would only increase the number of character slots I can buy, then buy more I shall. As an altaholic, it is my duty to make characters. And please, don't tell me I can delete a character to make room. That would be like telling me to get rid of my firstborn child because my wife got pregnant again.* Not to mention all my alts have items that can't be moved to a new character (like purchased inventory and DOff slots). I'm not throwing money away just so I can turn around and repurchase it on a new character.
We are 4 weeks away and there are still so many questions left unanswered. Hopefully they will be addressed sooner rather than later.

Could someone please rein in Cryptic's marketing department? The Constitution has been a playable ship since the game was released and the only new playable ship from Star Trek is the Daedalus, the rest are all Cryptic designs.
