Man, it's like I can hear the heavy breathing and forlorn rustle of empty Cheetos bags through the text. That's impressive.
I purchased Caitians to use in the game. If they lock me out of using them in the period they were canonically established and give them to lifers I'd be mildly annoyed.
How's this sound, since the Temporal Agent thing is a limited time event, and NOT the permanent way it will be after the event ends, then AOY gets NO lifer unlock. I mean really, why should they put that much work into a special race that will only be available as a special thing during a very limited time?
Why not... if some people are to be believed they did all the work for a custom tutorial, sector map, esd, etc for it.
And why do people want Deltans? Aside from a sex trait make a human, then remove their hair... voila Deltan

Yep, all resources that can be reused if/when they add any further missions in that time period. Sorry not the same thing at all.
actually it kinda is... all that is locked behind the (supposedly)6 mission faction. But meh, if they're willing to do all that BS then a new lifer race is nothing. Esp if its something like Human/Vulcan or Deltan

Because that special race would be a permanent thing not available for a limited time. Not sure where you got the idea that Cryptic would make a bunch of missions and ships for a one-time event. The Temporal Agent Recruitment is limited to about 6 weeks, but the TOS missions will still exist long after the Event is gone. The Temporal Agent Recruitment event only deals with adding dialog to certain missions and giving out rewards for completing certain objectives. It has absolutely nothing to do with the ability to play a certain mission or create a certain character. People will still be able to create and play the TOS missions and pilot the TOS ships long after the Temporal Agent Recruitment event is gone.

I need a clarification. I was under the impression the TOS faction was remaining and it is merely being released as part of the 50 year celebration?

Yeah, somebody is confusing the Temporal Recruitment event, temporary, with the AoY release, probably permanent.
Thxs for the info...similar to delta recruit but with new adventures added.

Btw, if anyone didn't know, I was being sarcastic earlier in this thread. I love the idea that lifers who get a stipend once a month are totally cool with messing over the folks who have already spent for a Caitian. I get that being a lifer is a Lockbox ship investment up front, but the rewards are outstanding, particularly if you've been with this game for a long time.
Generally, I hate when people throw around the term entitlement. It makes me think of grumpy old people (sorry). However, in this case, it's well deserved. It's not as if Lifers don't get a really, really big bang for their buck. I hope that Cryptic does throw out some enticement to get people to buy into a lifetime sub. But that being said, it shouldn't be at the expense of people who have already bought the race in game.
*also, I'm sure this is a minority anyways. I don't want to lump all lifers into some "entitlement category" that they don't belong. Most people, I assume, knew what they were getting when they bought the product and aren't actively trying to mess over other folks in the game for their own benefit.
I have no problem with the idea of LTS getting one more benefit I'll never have, and if they develop a premium race for TOS characters I'm fine with that.
I'm not particularly okay with the idea of not being able to use a race I bought and paid for in TOS content just because I didn't buy an LTS, so I am not in favor of the Caitian option.
I already speculated on Denobulans as an official playable race, but since I assume that hardcore TOS fans would tend to go ballistic over it, I also assume they're off the table.
Fed-Orion has been shot down enough already and no Orion ever appeared as a crewmember in TOS. Outta there.
Human-Vulcan hybrid... Spock was the first and to be assumed probably the only adult specimen around in the TOS era. I seem to also recall that it required considerable medical intervention to make possible. So, while you can RP all you want, it would be highly improbable that there are any others running around at that time and not worth Cryptic's time to create a special race option for it.
but since I assume that hardcore TOS fans would tend to go ballistic over it, I also assume they're off the table.
I dunno about 'hardcore' but if I can't have an era appropriate Caitian, how does Denobulan work? :P Cryptic's own "logic" invalidated this as an option

Agreed. TOS Caitians for Caitian owners only.
Fed-Orions in the TOS era is canon. The only problem is they are not in the STO or Prime universe.
it's back to the "i paid for the kitty waaaaaaaaa" and again i will say it if they let one c store species in the really have to let ALL in. and that's not the point of AOY
Did they get more stuff for the Romulan Expansion?
Yes. Liberated Borg Romulans. Talaxians were available a couple of weeks after Delta Rising was released. So if there is no new LTS race for Agents of Yesterday, then it would be the first expansion where the devs didn't introduce a unique race for Lifers.

Given the entirely arbitrary race restrictions they've put in place in AoY in the name of 'TOS Purity', frankly I'd be quite annoyed if Lifers got a unique race.
Give them other perks if you must, sure, but a special race when they've barred even canonically present races on the basis that they they didn't appear in the show in the 60's would be garbage.
as a lifer myself I don't see any reason that we should be given any unique species to select for a ToS character just because the unique species we have access to are not allowed.
if cryptic chooses to give us anything new that is fine but I don't expect anything from them in this instance.

I will remind you that although the temporal recruit event is limited time event the ability to create a ToS character is not, your ability to create a ToS character is permanent and does not cease just because the recruit event ends.
having said that I still don't see the need to make any concession's for lifetime subscribers with regards to ToS characters.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
or just deal with the original 4. this self entitlement jazz really disgusts me sometimes
New playable Lifer-only races have either been directly included with or quickly added to every expansion release so far. It's hardly entitlement to expect Cryptic to stick to an existing pattern. I wouldn't be too upset if they didn't, but it would definitely be strange.
Caitians was merely the best suggestion I could come up with given the TOS theme and the strict limitations that implies. The only other reasonable suggestions so far have been Deltans and Human/Vulcan Hybrids, but neither is especially visually distinctive - a trait Lib. Borgs and Talaxians both have, albeit optionally in the case of the former.
I'm still confused over this conflation of TOS and Federation Caitians, though. People seem to think they'd be the exact same. I reiterate the point I made earlier about Ferasans - you don't just get handed Caitians on a silver platter if you bought Ferasans, why would you be handed TOS Caitians if you bought Federation Caitians? What makes you think they'd have identical traits, or that any assets made for one would be unavailable to the other?
So many looking for reasons to shoot it down instead of ways to make it work...
If Cryptic adds a Lifetime sub exclusive race within tos and was seen on tv as the restrictions. the hybrid human/ vulcan idea's I could see. I could also see them do a Khan ( human augment ) option. No canon wise, a human augment would be a hell of a stretch / reach. But it'd be either that or one the humans from alien worlds we saw on screen ends up an option.
Would I like to see a tos/ tas caitian ? heck yes. Will I be sad if that is never gonna happen , No.
the suggestion one the previous posters put forth of a Human esp type. would also work just fine and be in line with what we had saw on screen in the 60's era run (( gary mitchel the pilot episode )). Sadly predicting what Cryptic will or won't do for such a race if at all... Is alot like trying to predict the weather with any degree of consistant regualarity. Ie roll the dice , spin the wheel, pray to RNGesus .

I think Deltan, Half-Vulcans or Augmented might have the greatest merit. Though they would not really offer much visual distinctiveness.
Maybe they should create a TOS Alien with stripped down customization options, basically limiting them to some fancy skin paints.
You should have been here around launch, when people were demanding their playable Caitans the first time. It was quite ridonkulus.
