Should T5 lockbox and Lobi ships be made available in the C-Store?

even if it was for a limited time?
it would allow some players who won't gamble the ability to get those ships that allow completion of sets (wells) and hangars (bug)
I'm not saying the T6 ships now just T5 and lower

Not only would it disrupt Cryptic's current business model, CBS will not allow them to sell "alien" ships in the C-Store.

They will NEVER DO THAT, it would be a loss of money on Their part, not a gain.
The best you could possibly hope for is if They let folks who already own the Lockbox Ships repackage them to give to an Alt toon on ones OWN account.
And even that has a very, Very, VERY LONG SHOT of ever happening.

Those particular ships are in lock boxes because it was the only way CBS would allow then to be released, as CBS wants the use of alien ships to be rare (yes I know, that sounds silly at this point given the fleet of alien ships outside ESD, but the point stands)
Hell, I'd be happy if they just let us do that with lobi uniforms ...

I think what they could or should do (especially for the console players) is release a "meta" lockbox that contains all the rewards from previous T5 lockboxes, with an increased chance for a drop of ships (but still a low chance to drop a specific ship).
Lol, just save ec and buy it from exchange like the rest. Would be nice but yeah, not gonna happen. What they should do is make the ships acc unlocks. MAKE THEM ACC UNLOCKS ALREADY DAMN IT.
which is a very moot point after event ships have been made account-wide unlocks and Kazon/Nihiydron/Malon consolation prize ships are dirt-cheap on the exchange.
Afaik that arguement came up around the time we had the original Cardassian lockbox and I can't remember having heard it getting mentioned by Cryptic much after that.
They just won't do it.
Not only this, but it would crash the ship market on the exchange big time.
Last I looked the Wells was still selling for 650 mil.
So some of the older T5 ships are still highly coveted, be it for a specific console or trait etc.
But at least they are available for EC. Even if the EC price is super high.
One thing should be mentioned is that Lobi ships are fairly cheap in comparison to lockbox ships. They average about 190-275 mil.
So there is that route.
They EC cost may seem excessive for some lockbox ships, but at least this is one way you can buy one, without having to gamble for it.
You're 100% guaranteed to get one.
Demand, is what dictates the ship price, as does the average gambling sucess rate of ship flippers.
The one thing they could do, to alleviate part of this issue is to allow for a player to rebox a ship for a fee. Say 1000- 2500 Zen.
And then pass it on to another character on the account.
But I don't expect any changes tbh.
They've got this system and it works for them.

Frankly I think it's reasonable enough. If you're short on money and spend money on STO, you know the only place it goes to is STO. You know it is impossible to strike rich and suddenly have all your financial troubles resolved. With gambling for money, people can convince themselves that they might win because there is actually a possibility for it to happen.
You're paying for the lobi within, with a "chance" at a ship.
This is how they skirt the gambling regulations. (Pretty smart aren't they ? - or pretty "Greasy" depending on your moral and ethical compass - and whether you think this is right or wrong).
Though I do agree, the odds should be prominently displayed for each box and for each item within.
But if the lockbox system really bothers you, you should write a letter to your local government representative. Its the only way this type of quasi gambling will get regulated.
Because as it stands now, they are not doing anything illegal. You pay for Lobi, the chance at a ship is secondary. (Even though we all know better).
They do not fall within the online gambling regulations and laws.
From a legal standpoint it's not considered gambling unless you can win cash or prizes that can be sold for cash (like a car).
If the law was written the way you seem to think it is, even Pokémon and Magic the Gathering cards would be illegal, and as long as they've been around SOMEONE would have shut them down by now.
If it had to be one or the other. I think everyone would prefer the free content and way they do things now. Lock Boxes are just a minor complaint
Heh, good luck with the $5 unlock price. I'm thinking 10-20 bucks. An account unlock for the lock ox ships similar to TOR's collection system would be nice though.

1. It will devalue the effort and expense earlier players went through to get them. What would you say to the player, who spent hundreds of dollars to get that ship, when the ship's uniqueness is ruined by putting it in the c-store ? How would you set a price to be fair to that?
Too low and people will feel burned by the experience and future lockbox sales will suffer.
2. What about future lockbox ships? If you set the president of putting older lockbox ships in the C-store and players will just wait till a ship goes there then rather partake in the lockbox event, devaluing the uniqueness of those ships.
Future lockbox sales would suffer.
Say what you want about lockbox ships, but lockbox events are a gambling event and people gamble to get them.
You wanna sure thing? Buy keys, sell em and buy said ships off the exchange.
They run past lockbox events periodically.
Personally, I just can't abide the notion that we should do away with everything's uniqueness.
One doesn't always have to have EVERYTHING, there are plenty of new things coming.
Exactly, what would be the motivation? Money? They make scads of that off the events in the first place.
