I've seen announcements about there being no cross platform play between consoles and PCs. I can understand that; STO isn't an FPS but players with a mouse and keyboard will still have an advantage.
What I haven't seen is anything to suggest that I won't be able to log in to my account on a console and access all my characters and gear there.
I'm just going to file this thread with all the others complaining about functionality (or the lack thereof) that hasn't been announced yet. Speculation is, as always, pointless.
Given a STO producer (Zeronius Rex) stated the STO Console setup will in fact be the same as their NeverWinter PC/Console setup (IE separate and BTW - AoY WILL NOT be on the PS4/XBone at launch - confirmed); there is zero speculation here.

I don't see what the big deal is about "fairness" in having new players match up against people with money spent and superior builds.
I get that lots of snowflakes in this game cannot handle things like character death with little-to-no penalty, but if one were to start anew in any MMO that has been around for years, then that person would be in a similar position: new to a game where most of the people you encounter are better equipped and more knowledgeable of the game and its mechanics.
Not everyone needs to be on a level playing field, despite what the 5k DPSer crowd says.
The crazy thing is, in games that have crossed over to console and there was a PC to Console Transfer. I never saw anyone complain about the uber PC players. Most of the time those new console players were attracted to them for the sole purpose of learning the game from them.
I suspect that the learning curve is going to be much more steep for new players on console since they wont have access to the more experienced players like new comers have it here. Theyll be able to find the wiki and maybe a few outdated videos on youtube. But the wealth of knowledge you can find in places like the DPS League. Thats going to take a while to replicate on console.
Theres also the issue that there really wont be anyone around to give players a fair warning that PvP is essentially dead on PC and that its not likely that console will see any new breath of life for it. Itll still be the mess that it is. How much money will console players spend before they figure that out? PvP is a pretty big component of console demographics. More and more games launch every year that are tailored to that sort of aspect of gaming. Im shocked and somehow not shocked that Cryptic would, 6 years in, decide to launch on console without at least trying to sort out PvP even for just one season. That alone tells me theyre going to cash grab the **** out of it.
GTA V is just as mmo as STO online is. they allowed you a one time transfer of accounts. So its possible. This is a really simple issue for me. they either allow me to transfer my purchases to the Xbox one and ill prolly spend more money, or they wont, and ill never touch it.
So you'll stop playing STO on your PC, because They will not let you transfer your account to a console??
Seems kinda-sorta needlessly self-immolating to me.
Also, seems pretty obvious to me, that They want NEW BLOOD on the Consoles, not folks who have already built up their characters on a PC.
Giving OLD Players a freebie ride on the consoles, seems very counter-productive to making more money on PWE/Cryptics' part.

I agree, they're not expecting players to play on more then one platform, which is certainly a shame.
The game really could have used the infusion of players that would have come with cross platform play. As for new players not being up to pace, that would be an issue in a competitive game, but not a game like STO.
You do cross platform would only work if patches launched for both PCs and consoles at the same time. That would mean even delayed patching for PC and whole host of delays in content releases.
Digital Extremes made a one-time-offer for PC-players of Warframe to migrate their PC-accounts to the console back when they announced Warframe coming to PS4.
Imagine PWE/Cryptic might do the same.
I'll say it again, just in case.
I don't know if PWE/CR have already said they won't do it, but if not, there's no reason for them to *not* offer an AM.
Console-STO is Un-STO, and has exactly the same relevance to us playing Real-STO that people playing Neverwinter do: None at all outside of the horrible blowback they can cause due to the related codebase.
There will be 3 builds: Holodeck, whatever the XB1-one will be called and another one for PS4. It's like that for any multi-platform MMO that's not CROSS-platform. The only difference might be that PC-players will have a newer build as console-versions undergo a certification-process. So it's as if we play the beta while console-players play the release-version. Look at Warframe and you will understand what I mean.
And it's not "Un-STO"; It's going to be as much STO as the holodeck-build. The relevance to us will be, that there will be more players and more opportunities to get new content, if certain factions happen to get a big increase on players.
I find it ridiculous for a gaming Company to make you pay everything again for the same game to be on the console. You end up paying from 5$ (minimum) up to 300$ (maximum) for content... and for you to purchase things that you are satisfied with in STO.
For example, I can already imagine a player spent around 500$ to 1000$ for this game and the developers are asking for another 500$ to 1000$ (since these players have already spent way too much money on a single game). 2000$ dollars total... I could be one of the worlds most powerful gaming computers with that money or heck something really nice besides only one game.
These developers should at be more considerate for peoples money and if it were to happen to them also... they sure as well don't like it either. So why can't you just simply allow us to use our accounts on two simple systems that require wi-fi??? This has nothing to do with cross platforming, and it surely does not have anything to do with servers.
The golden rule for the consumers is to be sure they are satisfied with their products and it to be a reasonable price. So far people are already satisfied with STO... why make everybody pay for the same exact thing and let everyone lose there progress? And especially there is players out there who have like over 30 captains?
Please, please find a easier way to make things even more honorable for this community. Thank you.
So? The addtion to consoles is to bring the game to NEW players not already established ones. For now stick with the PC version I'm sure at some point you will be able to transfer. Give it time and see where they are going with things first instead of getting all worked up before it's even released. So much drama over nothing right now.
