july huh? and it takes 25 days for a player to go from 0 to 1000 tokens for a ship in that time with the event usually last 10-15 days after that, so a month and a half roughly?
STO's usual release cycle is on Thursday(?) so days open are July 2,9,16,23,30. if the summer event goes as it should then giving some room, 23rd or 30th for example, give a week between the end event and the launch, looking at the start of June (2nd or 9th of that month) for the summer event to start up. About 3-4 weeks away speculatively when the event window is open.
They usually tend to release new season or expansions on a Tuesday, @mirrorchaos. The Tuesday release helps give them time to get gameplay breaking bugs that seem to crop up on the live server fixed before the weekend.
also noticed an error i made in the dates earlier just now: then its july 5,12,19,26 which leaves the 19th and 26th using the above example. again leaving a week between summer event end and the expac launch, looks like for summer event it is going to be around the same point, end of may to early june. so the window is revised 31st may or 7th june.

The Rising of the Delta is the best expansion ever, and people love it to death because it is a good day to die in the endless struggle for supremacy of your own conviction. (A spin off of the Delta Rising is the best expansion ever and all the players love it.)

I dont see this happening, you need 2 weeks for the shards plus extra time so players can collect them without incident and considering the proximity of the summer event if indeed it is out at the start of june.

According to the in-game calendar,which could still be broken of course, Crystalline event starts May 19th and runs to June 9th with Summer event starting June 10th.
that is cutting it mighty close, one event after another could promote burn out in some of the players, cryptic shouldnt do that if it is coming.

It would be better to release after the Summer event on Risa. Since many people will be there doing that. And it would conflict with the new expansion. So they can see how their numbers look as players play it. Even myself will be at Risa to get something. Usually I get outfits or some console to use. With 3 new alts I'm playing with, that can go there now. And get some stuff.
Another good thing on letting it go live after the event. As usual you will have a good week of issues. And that will hinder gaming.

Yes its all free to play. What you are seeing is a bundle of premium ships and gear for the expansion. There are normal ToS ships that will be available for use in lvling for free. They did the same thing with the Romulan expansion for the same price as I recall.

For every Captain created, a new timeline, very similar to the Prime timeline is created. This whole game is a giant cluster of timelines, we're making it grow and the developers are encouraging us to make it expand even more! And whenever we're teaming with others, we're violating the Temporal Prime Directive and driving TDI insane!
Will this expansion add anything to the "core" game for current toons in the 24th century or does this mean we can look forward to nothing new for the next year or so?
I don't believe I will be playing this as mainly a KDF player and having no slots to roll (or desire to level) another toon, so just wanted to check if I can take a year off.

As has been stated by official sto news and gecko himself. There will be an arc for all existing characters, in addition, to the TOS faction.
Looks like July 26th is probably the release date.
Gecko confirmed that July was the planned month and said it would be just before the Vegas Convention 2016. (Aug. 3-7)
He said this in the new G&T Show Interview.
