What I would like to see in season 13

packetbomberpacketbomber Member Posts: 6 Arc User
The reason I say Season 13 is because Season 12 is under development.

There are a few things I would like to see happen in Season 13 that I think would be amazing...

First of all, I would like to see an public API for the game. Make it to where you can be issued an API key and be able to make mods that enhance the game. What would be amazing is to have access to the client, so like you could make themes that would change the UI color or have third party HUD's that you could use during PvP and such. What would also be cool is to have texture packs that allowed Holodeck authors to make their own objects (ships, starbases) and environments (trees, skies, planets). Another part of the API that would be nice is to have chat bots. Now, I'm sure everyone is going "Not like we don't have enough spam as it is" but I have with the current chat system had bots connect over the XMPP gateway and used them when members of my fleet ran STF's for things like timers. All of this could be done with little overhead on Cryptic's part if they had a group of volunteers check all of these mods then approve them to only be distributed from Cryptic's servers or in the bots case have the API key act as a whitelist for different channels so that you don't have people selling W.o.W.G.o.L.d in NoP.

Another thing that is more realistic to see happen is make unified ground and space combat zones for raids. For example, have a Borg attack scenario. Have an Armada fleet warp into an system then have it split members of the Armada into wings and squadrons. Have the server assign different quadrants to different wings and from there have that wing's squadrons clear out certain sections of that quadrant. Each squadron has to clear out enough of it's area for it to be safe enough to launch shuttles with ground assault forces. From there, it gets more interesting. Each ground team operates independently achieving different objectives. But depending on how those individual teams operate could drastically change events on space and on the ground. Say Borg reinforcements arrive. Immediately disable the ability for turrets, shield generators, security teams, orbital strikes, and limit the amount of minefields you can spawn, because if that happened in reality, your ship wouldn't have the ability to drop its shields to transport those things and their phasers would be a bit busy to spare you an orbital strike. Also have it to where if your support ship gets blown up it's out for a while. But then, an objective appears on the map: you can reactivate and reprogram the orbital defense grid that the Borg put in place but was disabled during the initial attack. Teams from all around the map have to go to different locations and either repair or reprogram different things. You have to coordinate this to the point that if the system isn't fully reprogrammed before the power is fully restored, the orbital defenses start attacking friendlies. But if you loose too many ships before the grid is on, or you TRIBBLE up and the grid works as designed, the ground teams must defend themselves from the Borg until reinforcements arrive (the Armada is respawned) or all the ground teams are wiped out.

The idea of an raid like that would be pretty amazing. I haven't heard of an MMO that is capable of something on that scale, though to be fair there aren't many games that have a combined space and ground mechanic like STO does.

We used to have a unified ground and space system where STFs had both ground and space components I believe but it was split becuase some people hate space too much or hate ground too much to bother... :p

Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.

will never happen, cryptic will never allow players to make mods for the game and if any were caught using a mod they would be instantly banned.
they would also never allow anyone other then cryptic staff to have access to the game client.
also the use of bots of any kind is a big no no.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

EverQuest 2 has an client API, and it is much more insecure than what I was suggesting, and they don't have that many issues with cheaters and spambots.

And actually, the ToS states in section 23.1:
"You agree not to use any hardware or software, including but not limited to third party tools, or any other method of support which may in any way influence or give you an advantage in the use of the Services which is not authorized by us, including but not limited to the use of ‘bots’ and/or any other method by which the Service may be played automatically without human input."

The average person would agree that using the chat and therefor the XMPP bridge isn't playing the game, or at least in the sense they are describing. That part of the ToS is very clearly targeting software that accesses the client to use the cursor and keyboard in a way that would let the user gain an unfair advantage. If an moderator would be willing to clarify that, and either say "non-malicious chat bots are fine" or "they violate section 32.1 of the ToS", then I would be very grateful. But I'm fairly certain having the bot in an custom chat with the admin's permission to offer basic Google, STOWiki, Calculator, and QDB functions plus a timer to sync STF actions within the fleet custom chat, which is exactly what fleets do all the time in STF's over voice, isn't a violation of the ToS. And if the bot posting in a custom fleet chat "Ten seconds until the next healing probe spawns" is a violation of the ToS, then realistically so is VoIP services like TeamSpeak, Ventrilo, and even the in-game VoIP chat because that is what people do already in STF's when not in a PUG.

the key words there are "You agree not to use any hardware or software, including but not limited to" then they go on to give the worst example.
which basically means anything that interacts with the game (in their words) "without human input" this would include the use of automated chat to interact with team players, that in itself is putting other players at an unfair disadvantage as they would need to stop firing or perhaps boosting their shields or somesuch to use chat.
voice chat is allowed as its not interacting with the game in any way, besides which even voice chat requires human input.

The Armada raid is an interesting idea, though. Don't think they'll do it, but the notion is interesting enough that I could be wrong. Armada vs. Armada would be epic, too (and equally unlikely).

    No more UI revamps.
Story Content, more interesting Global Events, new Battlezones, Red Alerts.
    Most importantly; The Shatner.
I will temper tantrum if there is no Shatner.

Edit: My bad, I thought you were asking about 12.
As for Ground/space interconnected queues, I've always been in favor of that. 20 man queues may be hard to fill though.
Keep them at 5-10 and I think it would work.

A new Dominon Faction would be nice, even if tied to KDF or FED.
Also like @garaks31 idea of involving Section 31 - For season 13 :sunglasses:

If the character of Noye has a vessel that could rearrange all history, each faction, Klingon, Romulan or Starfleet, would need all the help they can get. Even legends from the past. The main thing I wish to see this season would be the return of Starfleet's finest: Jean-Luc Picard (Sir Patrick Stewart), Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), Hikaru Sulu (George Takei), Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks), William T. Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and James Tiberius Kirk (William Shatner)! As Spock was fond of saying, "there are always possibilities."

Shatner is in his 80s now, doubt it.
Frakes.. yes, some Admiral Riker VO would be cool.
    Sulu? come on.
    The rest, doubt it.

Yeah I actually quite liked when the stfs were linked like that, made running them abit more interesting., but yeah they were split as said people hated space or ground an so it was better to split them. I would not mind the idea of them having both the split stfs we have now being available to be used, and then a combined one that had a higher amount of reward payout (such as 1.5x the rewards of if you ran both the ground an space) as well as having some unique rewards that you could only get from running the combined ground an space version of that stf. It would just also be nice if the devs gave us more reasons to play thru and que for other stf, either thru having a rotating line-up of stfs that are available to be played on a weekly/bi-weekly time frame or ggiving out shifting bonuses given to certain stfs making them more desirable payout wise to play.

I do like the idea of the raid type encounter that you and your fleet or large group of members fight in a large quardented area that is attacked or blockaded by a force, and some might beam down to the surface to deal with the occupying force an some stay up in space to re-enforce it against reinforcements that would arrive an use tactics you have to deal with.

    More primary specializations.

I would love to see a continuation of the Keten and Jhet'leya story arc. It would be nice to have Memory Alpha reopen. Andoria needs some love, so a featured episode and an updated map for Andoria would be nice; it would be a good way to update Andorian ships to T6. I honestly would like to see a new New Romulus type of map open up. New Talax sounds like a good place to have it, but if we are going to the Gamma Quadrant, New Bajor would be nice. I really do feel that the Devs should utilize what is already available. There isn't a need to create new things for new content. The Deferi are under used, so this would be a good time to focus on them. As for the KDF, what happened to all the mercenaries and organizations after the Iconian War? Would be nice to revisit some of these people and deal with new economic and social problems. Having a few diplomatic and medical missions would be nice as well.

Only a few months after its founding, New Bajor's inhabitants were massacred by the Jem'Hadar as part of a larger offensive against Alpha Quadrant ships and colonies. Third Talak'talan told Kira Nerys that the colonists "fought well... for a spiritual people." (DS9: "The Jem'Hadar")

not only are you suggesting they close plot holes AND update existing content to reflect in universe changes, but you have the GALL (or was that Gaul lol) to suggest missions that have NO COMBAT?!?!?!

    - Accolades for patrol missions in each sector; rewards dil to patrols

    - Rewards dilithium or energy credits by accolades

    - Change in the weather (climate variations on maps would be great); day, night, rain, fog, storms, night maps with darkness...

    - More dangerous animals (perhaps diseases) on patrol missions would be interesting

    - Damage to collision between ships or asteroids (friction atmsosfera also) in hard mode

    - Greater diversity in the stations ... where are the children, couples, seniors, people walking in groups, etc?

    - Why not human, andorian, Klingon, Vulcan lock box as well as reputation system for these races?

    - Greatly increase the time in each rank

    - Loot according to each race; does not make sense, receive drinks or food Borg and Klingons of chocolates; we might receive corticals in defera to exchange for items or special doffs Borg, or marks

    - Trophies, mural of accolades or the main line missions inside the ship

    - Missions inside the ship, invasions, accidents, etc.

    - Back to the hours with bonuses for each contest area, as we had time to defera, etc; would give more life to combat areas

    - Dilithium deposit in bank account

    - Fights in bars and clubs, as drozana would be fun; missions too

    - More missions in nimbus, new romulan .. excellent maps, underutilized

    fleet

    - Why not colonize planets? build settlements, buildings, etc.

    - Promote battles entres fleets fed x Klingon

    - More tabs in the bank to deposit boffs and doffs, and dilithium in the fleet bank

    boffs

    - Voices for boffs and some voices to choose; to the captain too, to use in major missions
    - Customize boff traits and use boffs for the crew inside the ship (when visiting the ship inside);
    - ship's crew uses the same uniform

    c- store

    - Trade ships; more ships and different .. civil, comerce, cargo, etc

    - Why not spend some of the old ships of the lock box for c-store?

    - More clothes

    - T6 for the classic ships, enterprise nx and sto

    - More boffs of specific racess for sale: voth, vaaadwar, borg released
(More customnizável in appearance), cooperative, kardassian, Denobulans, Vorta, Hirogen, etc.
