So what fun and/or interesting and/or pathetic nicknames do YOU have for the starship classes in Star Trek? Just for giggles and for starting the conversation, here are mine:
Excelsior Class (Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit): Bathtub Class. I don't know why, but it always looked like a bathtub to me.
Defiant Class (Tactical Escort): Frisbee Class
Intrepid Class (Long Range Science Vessel): Shovel Class or Garden Trowel Class
Krenim Science Vessel (Anniversary T6): Blue Pen Class
Miranda Class (Light Cruiser): Frisbee Class
That's just some of mine that I remember off the top of my head. As time marches on and my coffee kicks in, I'll remember others. What are YOURS?

Exception is the Space Shoe. Also known as Deep Space Science Vessel.
Okay, and sometimes I consider the Star Cruiser (the original ones, not those name-stealing Oddys) the one true space whale.
This is the only nickname I have for any of the ships.

However, it is not just ships here. When I used to follow the DVD Player and Recorder Forums they did the same, with Panny for Panasonic, and Sammy for Samsung, etc. The Sony Corporation anticipated this phenomena and named themselves accordingly ahead of time.
You might need to study the annals of The Three Stooges 'Swinging the Alphabet' song or Shirley Ellis' 'The Name Game' song for a clue to all this.
As you can probably tell, I don't use knicknames for Ship Classes and especially dislike the 'y' 'ie' ones.

Scimy for a decently capable built ship, and a scimitard when referring to one that couldn't fight it's way out of a wet paper bag.
Oddy for one of the original 4 Odyssey class ships.
I constantly refer to my Presidio class by it's ship name, which confuses no end of people in the fleet when trying to find it the C Store.
