Hello fellow STO players! I'm really pleased to announce that Priority One Podcast will be interviewing Cryptic's own Jeremy Randall (aka Borticus) this Saturday, February 20th - all about the new skill system revamp. Reply here to send us your questions! Then tune in to episode 259 on Monday, February 22nd to hear the interview in full. As of the time of this post [Thursday, 18th of Feb], the skill tree revamp is planned to go out on the Tribble Test Server on Friday, 19th of Feb so I would like to advise taking a glance at the system on Tribble before submitting your question.

"Other consolidated Skills exist, such as combining both existing “Weapon Specialization” skills into superior choices that improve both Energy and Kinetic weapons, rather than encouraging players to ignore one or the other."
My question is: Where skills have been consolidated/combined, will the values of the bonuses they give remain the same as under the old system, or will they be reduced in the new system?
To give a hypothetical example: if Energy Weapon Specialisation and Torpedo Weapon Specialisation currently give "+10 to Energy Weapons" and "+10 to Torpedos" respectively, will the combined Specialisation give "+10 to Energy Weapons and Torpedos", or will the bonus be reduced, say to "+5 to Energy Weapons and Torpedos"?
Borticus once explained how threat works in STO and that proximity with the target increases threat. With the elimination of the ground threat skill, does this mean there will or at least can be a change to how threat works in space?
Are you going to make some sort of sum up of the interview in written form?
Also please include the following question in you interview:
“Hey BORT, after peeps threw countless of recourses at the inspirational leader trait on multiple characters how will it perform under the new system?”

Is he as snide answering interview questions as he is forum questions?
anyway.
Borticus question: will there be new skills added or removed or even combined and will it have any effect on combat?
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
In the new skill system, once we have spent all our points/xp/whatever and picked our skills, will we be able to freely change them at any time at no cost or will we have to buy (with Zen) a respec token like in the current skill system.
Also, will the Antiproton crit severity modifier ever become a % chance proc - like all other energy weapons currently have?
Perhaps investing in certain areas of the new tree could negate some of the FAW/Spread accuracy penalty and/or increase proc chance to weapon procs?
No. Your fun makes everyone else's fun wrong by default.
And Borticus, when can we expect to see the Kemocite Laced Weaponry fix that you promised us within a month or two? It has been a month, and not a word spoken about this since you mentioned that there was a fix incoming to tribble within a few weeks for testing. Only thing we know right now is that it will not produce critical strikes with energy weapons, only torpedo's. It has been fixed (nerfed) multiple times, at least get this thing working as it should.
A very rare and expensive ability broken, and I would hope is not being swept under the proverbial rug!
That is all.
It should have been simpler to make equal ground and space skill points.
My questions for Bort is: "I have spent umpteen hours getting my characters just the way I want them. My Fed Tactical is a shutdown specialist, who is not a slouch when it comes to dealing damage, and my Fed Engi can tank with the best of them, but she doesn't do much damage. My Science healer stays back from the fight and heals. Are all my custom builds are now thrown out the window in favor for DPS, or will the skill revamp be thoroughly tested for months with ALL kinds of builds taken into consideration? Will it even be possible to exactly recreate the EXACT build I currently have for my characters? "
Will we see new consoles to improve the new skills?
It has been 10 days (February 9th) since Borticus' official response regarding the Kemocite situation.

on behalf of level headed players, please accept this cheese platter in recognition of the extra time, you will no doubt spend, in the retouching of many a questions for the borticus. we feel pretty confident, this gift will compliment a moderate volume of the local beverage being offered.
my questions for the borticus..
1. do you think the new skill system will promote a move towards the more conventional trinity of roles? if so, will any content be updated, or introduced, to reflect that trinity style play, and would there be any kind of option to dual spec a character's skill tree, in order to facilitate a mix of play styles/roles?
2. what effect will the new system have on what/how we are able to train our bridge officers?
regards,
qzi (zee)

Can I has a pony? ..please?
Failed funnies aside; as a new level 60, I'm lookin' forward to the demystifyin' side of this revamp. I like to know what my skills do and the current system is confusin' AF.
- realtalk about respeccing options, 500 Zen is alot (almost 5 €), even farming dil with 10+ chars is horrible, i hope cryptic can add some sort of dualspecc or reduce respec costs, i dont even ask to make them free cause i know it will never happen, does cryptic have any plans to "improve" respec options or make them less expensive ?
He already said hes the wrong person to ask that question.
How will you be monetizing this system? Expanding on that, will you be introducing unique skills like you did with traits and boff powers, that only 1-2% of the playerbase will ever get to use?
yes because wow totally invented skill systems like this...(sarcasm) Honestly it's not much different from what i read besides the passive gains through spending, then the previous system. But if they are being honest it should be easier to understand for a new player. I honest can't wait to try it and give my honest opinions, instead of shouting doom and stuff with no information.
My question though, is will there be any amount of balancing that goes along with this? Because currently most people use the Flow Capacitors, because it effects the nearly universally best console in the game plasmodic leach. This consoles makes engineering captains mostly obsolete. By giving a consistent way of getting power even more then EPS Power Transfer, this gives all classes the a better version of that ability. Other captain classes don't have such problem as most of them stack pretty well with anything in the game.
Well, it feels like a month! lol
Unfortunately I won't have the time to do that as the interview is being done on Saturday night (my local time) and then has to be edited along with the rest of the show and assembled all on Sunday. Sorry!
