Hello i have a question for borticus: how will people who spec into certain heavy builds in my case exotic science build be affected by the new changes to the system?
I'd like to expand on this question. I'm worried that I might be forced into certain things I bypassed before on certain builds for the purpose of being highly specialized. Specifically with science builds you needed to drop things like resistances to maximize the skill type you wanted. With combining skills, like the new drain skill that includes resistance, is this virtually forcing me to "pay" for resistance that I would have bypassed on certain builds?

Question for Borticus -
Are you going to nerf the hell out of my Part Gens build, after I spent a small fortune to get 427 Part Gens?
How much time has been invested in Alpha testing this system, and how much time is Cryptic willing to put into Beta testing this system with thier customers to make sure the new system will indeed be "working as intended"?
Bort' when will the devs work on making the HUD overlay not so graphics intensive? If I turn the function off, my FPS rate doubles at the minimum. It really shoudnt be that graphics intensive!
Question for Bort:
- realtalk about respeccing options, 500 Zen is alot (almost 5 €), even farming dil with 10+ chars is horrible, i hope cryptic can add some sort of dualspecc or reduce respec costs, i dont even ask to make them free cause i know it will never happen, does cryptic have any plans to "improve" respec options or make them less expensive ?
He already said hes the wrong person to ask that question.
Did he? Was that oon the Reddit thread or in here?
Cos when I asked this question to Bort i got no anaswer at all
Didn't have much time to look at this on tribble after work today. But had to squeeze in some time for a peak due to my concern about this change hurting generalists such as myself.
At first glance it really dose look like this new system is going to promote a new build philosophy of specialization, primarily due to the ability's unlocked by over-investment in specific trees.
One of my favourite things about STO has been the ability to swap ships builds and playstyles on a whim, and this system looks designed to encourage the use of alts rather then a single captain.
I don't have the time for alts, I fear that without a loadout system for skill builds I am going to be forced to limit my captains flexibility, or sacrifice efficiency to a far grater degree then the current system, which only hurts my efficiency by 5% or less for choosing not to specialize.
I do honestly need to spend more time examining the new system, maybe there is some aspect to it that I have missed. But I am not sure that I have.
So my question. Bort, can you please put some huge handicap on the abilities that require grater then a 15 point investment in any of the three paths, so that I don't feel like a gimp for generalizing, or can you sell us skill loadout slots in the C-store so that I can switch when I switch ships. Oh, also if you go with the monetization option, you can earn bonus points with me if it works reliably on release.
Ok, it seems to me that the new Control and exotic damage categories offer a substantially smaller boost to powers than before, am I reading incorrectly? If so will their base effects be increased to compensate? Gravity well for instance, I am enjoying having a 20km well will that now be impossible?
Which exotic powers did y'all feel were over performing and therefore nerfed and visa versa which did you feel sucked and therefore improved?
What is the relationship between the new exotic damage skill and the numerous exotic damage types in the game such as physical, Radiation, kinetic etc. Will there be more unity among the damage types dealt by exotic damage powers and how they are boosted?
Questions:
1) Are there in the future any longer Cooldowns on the ultimate abilities and if so, how long are they going to be? Problem right now would be stacking from "probability manipulation" with doubled increase heal effect.
2) Since drivercoil is removed/changed, is there any compensation for the speed/turnrate loss for evasive maneuvers, the trait "fleet tactician" and the deuterium device?
3) Is it intended, that drain expertise is weaker in combination with as example plasmonic leech than it is on holodeck right now? (holodeck => 50 points flowcaps = +0,5 per stack, tribble => 60 points = +0,4 per stack)
4) not a question but a comment: its very good to equalize cannons and beams with dmg loss from range, thumbs up!
Edited my questions since I did a little more reading. Thanks everyone.
1. Since hull regen has been set to max levels are we talking both in and out of combat?
Does this mean that if we spend hull regen points we'll exceed what our maxes were before and if we don't our numbers will be as are now?
2. Since shield power benefits have been lowered about how many points will one have to put in shield regen to gain previous levels if shield power setting is kept at same levels?
Also is this new Hull Pen skill the same and tied to the [Pen] modifier of crafted weapons?

If it hasn't happened yet, here's a legit question, did the cancelation of the xp event have anything to do with the eventual live launch of the skill revamp, with the xp event coming then instead?
I'm trying to imagine the cork-board covered in photos, newspaper clippings, and thumb-tacks with strands of bright red yarn revealing the secret web underneath the universe where those two would be related .

To get those who want to level alts during the event to "test" the new level up experience. Doing the tutorial and eating a bunch of free xp on Tribble isn't the same as going through all the story arcs while leveling.
1. Will hull regen still be affected by live/able crew? Also, will shield regen be affected by shield power setting as it currently is now where any power over 50 gives a boost to the amount of shield regen per every 6 seconds?
2. Am I safe to assume now that Patterns no longer has a skill tree, that everyone is on the same playing field with patterns?
I've tried it out on Tribble and the Crew Thingy has been completely removed from the game, so it's no longer any kind of factor. (not that it did much before hand)

I''m pretty happy with the effectiveness my science captain enjoys now with the skills I have.
I'm skilled in part gens, flow caps, graviton gens ect. ect. ect.
All I have to do is change gear to reflect what I want to bring to missions.
1. Am I going to loose some of my effectiveness with this revamp?
2. If so, will I have to grind to get it back?
3. Are we loosing the ability to personalize character's skills, like hybrid skill sets?
Example: I have a tac captain who also specializes in part gens and flow caps,
And a science captain, who specializes in torpedo skills.
A. Will these be possible in the revamp? B. If so, will they be as effective as they are now?
4. Will we be seeing the release of top tier skills only available through lock boxes ?
Thanks a million everyone who submitted questions for this interview. We were able to get through most of them during the interview which you can all listen to in Mondays episode 259.

Would there be a possibility of making your class have a greater effect on skills? For instance getting Science captains getting 110% skill bonus from science tree?
Hello again everyone, just wanted to let you all know that episode 259 is now available for download or streaming. You can find the episode at the following links:

Most likely it had to do with the Galactic Restoration xp weeks (One week to do queues to fill the meter, then a week to enjoy the reward earned from doing so) that were inserted into the calendar with the new patch. Earning starts this coming Thursday, and the xp bonus will be the following week.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

Question; Is there any chance what so ever that this might be postponed until a decent system is devised instead of lifted from elsewhere?
