No matter what I try, I have never gotten more than 840, and my average is down around 600-650

Try increasing your mouse sensitivity so that small hand movements result in larger mouse movements. Don't increase it the point where it is hard to control though. There is no such setting in STO's options so you would need to adjust it from the Windows control panel.

Yeah. I found that barely touching the mouse with my fingers while moving it is much better. I've pulled in a few perfect scores and score a sliver/trace most of the time. Sometimes the lag gets me and I end up with just two or three traces. But I've pulled in so many slivers that I'm just converting them while I farm. I'm usually pulling in 100 of each color every day.
Now a LTS and loving it.

Woah, they nuked the particle spawn rate with this update. Now there are only 2 particles per zone regardless of the zone population. Previously it scaled and likely stayed scaled for a while after people left. This will definitely slow everyone down and drive many addicts into rehab I imagine. Not very nice.

Wolf 359 was pretty slim, and the Vulcan space system was too. Then I came back after awhile and Vulcan was back to normal. Perhaps it was just a bug.

It seems to be partly random. Some zones have huge shifts in where the particles spawn. Bajor space for example, sometimes they spawn around the station, sometimes around the wormhole. So it's conceivable that the ones that don't shift location have shifts in the configuration.

I think so but I've seen it like that before the update today.
Wolf 359, I see it the most here.

Well I pulled a bunch of 300s and some 315s today. I can never catch the particles unless I am there waiting for them, never get credit for catching the tail.

At one point today (and I only pulled a dozen or so) I parked the mouse cursor on a row and looked over some Admiralty Missions.

If I am doomed to one particle then a quick drop of the run is preferable, like after two seconds. :'(

The capture point for the particles is a bit earlier than it looks like it might be.

I think I remember from last year when there's a zone wipe with thursday maintenance it cleans out all of the particles then it takes a while for them to repopulate. I suspect what happens is that as a 3rd particle in the zone spawns and then is not scanned it slowly builds up so that there are 10-15 particles again in the zone. This morning I find that the zones are refilled with a good amount of particles.

I saw that too. I could sit at Wolf 359 almost the whole time I was farming blues. I only had to move once when they stopped respawning in the area I was sitting at.

I suspect the majority of players will not benefit very greatly from the omega particle game especially if they run the game only once at each of the 3 locations from the daily mission.
granted I am not a very dexterous player but each daily mission I have only ended up with 1 of each of the 3 coloured traces.

given that you need 1 of each colour to create one sliver, 3 slivers to create one shard, 3 shards to create one fragment and 3 fragments to create 1 omega tech upgrade you would need a total of 27 of each coloured particle to create 1 omega upgrade.

sure I have been collecting extra particles each day and playing with my 3 main characters but I am doubtful that I will end up with any more then between 1 or 2 upgrades on each of my 3 main characters by the end of the event.

not that I am complaining, my main goal is the ship anyway so anything extra is a bonus but still it would have been so much better if they could have skipped even one of the steps in creating the omega upgrades so I would have 3x as many upgrades.

I have tried keyboard & mouse with no difference to the end result BTW.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Good lord, I'm lucky if I get 600 points, never mind the numbers you're indicating.
I didn't even know you could get numbers that high.

same thing for me. the mini-game seems laggy for me, most of the time, when I move the cursor, there is no effect.
  • tarran61tarran61 Member Posts: 827 Arc User
There are times it seems to jump on me but for the most part the mini games plays out just find.

This was given to me by my daughter and son-in-law who both play as well. I will update my first post with this.

Key: T= Trace (Use lowest # of any single color)
    SL=Sliver
    SH = Shard
    FR = Fragment

    T#+SL = Total # of SL
    SL/3= SH
    (add SH in inventory)
    Total SH/3 = FR
    (Add to FR in inventory)
    Total FR/3 = Kits

    Example:
    Yellow: 1000 Blue: 999 Red: 1001
    SL: 934
    SH: 100
    FR: 16

    1001+934= 1935 SL
    1935/3= 645
    645+100= 745 SH
    745/3= 248.3
    248.3+16 = 264.3 FR
    264.3/3= 88.1
Total # of kits that can be made: 81!

    Hope this isn't too confusing!

huzzah. i got my first 2700 this morning. particles scarce at Wolf, Drozana and Bajor this morning. Probably because the game was down last night?

    Statistics:

Here is a good reference on where to find the 3 different colors: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Mission:_Omega_Molecule_Stabilization

    0-859 = 1 trace = 1 point
    860-1299 = 2 traces = 2 points
    1300-1699 = 3 traces = 3 points
    1700-1999 = 1 sliver + 1 trace = 4 points
    2000-2299 = 1 sliver + 2 traces = 5 points
    2300+ = 1 sliver + 3 traces = 6 points

And Seven Of Nine was able to pull off an complete particle in one go. Think about how many points she was racking up.

Hmm. Maybe if we all dress in her costume while we run the game...

but I do wear that costume when I play STO, much to the wifes annoyance.

I should have been more specific. Have your CHARACTER wear the Seven Uniform.

And to think that I actually thought that scoring 850 was a lot!!! Am I to assume that using my mouse is better than using the keyboard up and down keys?

Mouse is faster, if you have a good mouse, which you kinda need to play the game.

Yeah you need to be there before the center of the particle touches the yellow line.

Didnt Bort give up the fact that you don't get a chance at a bonus particle until after...1200 was it?

It's 1300. However I find that 2300 is the real magic number. In fact I would say exactly 2300 has the best chance. I find that in gathering 81 traces (about 30 scans) I get 3 bonus awards (mostly shards).
