I even have an idea though I'm sure the anti-lockboxers will hate me for this: Make the top design the ultra-rare ship (equivalent to the Vonph in rarity), the second place winner the "normal" big prize ship (like the Quas), and the third-place design the Lobi ship. Of course to make this work, the best way would be to have all of them compete head to head instead of in a bracket tournament. To do that effectively though, I'd suggest reducing the number of choices to five or six so that hopefully over half--maybe even 3/4 of the player base will like three of the options. (And even more of the player base would hopefully find one of the three winners at least tolerable.)

All I can say is, the majority voted for the ugly looking thing, so enjoy the wonderful eye candy of no variety for it!!!
Don't blame me, I voted for the other guy...um...ship.

I'm still not convinced it was a fair vote. There might have been so many designs, but I reckon they'd already chosen the one they were going to go with...and they just have very bad taste.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, if that wasn't true, I do believe some of us would have been abandoned by our parents.
This made me lol. Good one.
Anyway, I rather like it this way. Picked up the Type 7 material, the one the ship was advertised with, and moved on. Wasted less time in the ship tailor and spended more time actually playing with the ship, wich is wonderful.
Oh, so I imagined all of the "Which look do you like?" polls and endless threads?
1. Cryptic allows people to vote on which look they like.
2. People vote on which look they like.
3. An overwhelming consensus is reached on a very specific look.
4. People complain they can't change the look.

I have to agree with you it is not merely that the ship possesses just one look, but that there was so much extra concept art an design developed that for the cost of the ship many felt it would be nice to have some verity. Yet it is also that with to many hanger/separation pets have been quite useless after being nerfed, that releasing a carrier with a frigate would have been a great time to release some updates/reworkings to the pet system alongside or shortly after it. There is also the fact that largely we only got to vote on the look of the ship, not the layout, console ideas, frigate pet, or other such elements that go into such a design, and so feel that the actual large degree of designing of the ship was left out of our hands completely.
Though do not misunderstand many of us that are vocalizing our feelings an opinions are not saying the ship is bad, or that we hate the contest, but more that we are vocalizing that somethings were left out by the devs that would have been nice for us all to be part of, or to have had given with it. The only way to improve on something whither it is a ship, contest, or learning something criticism is good to know what to improve or was lacking in the opinions of those around you.

edit- having read the OP again, your whining is even more confusing. OP was simply about changing the look. Get over it, already, Good God.

I stated there was no customizations at all even with the layout... and no we didn't vote for exactly what we wanted...
Or maybe you're just lacking the reading comprehension to understand any of it.... but the bulk of the posters under stood even those who disagreed.

"We got what we voted for, but I want to change it. I don't like the way it looks, even though we voted for the looks...rantrantrant......also I want to change the seatings."
You know you can not buy it if you don't like it, right? If I were Cryptic, I would never do anything like this again. Ever. Between this and the "Give the Scimitard to the Feds!!!!1111oneoneone" thread, I'm embarrassed for some people.

threads like this are most of the reason I end up taking breaks from sto, been asking for t6 kdf carrier since delta of course feds get one instead, and get to pick the design and still they whine. I swear someone in charge at cryptic has to be a TRIBBLE to keep trying things like this.
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.
Most of the desire for the ability to change is not to change it to a different style like from omega to gamma, but more verity in the omega design, such as choosing if you have the necelles set longer on top or bottom, slightly different deflectors, maybe the pylons being swept abit different. Yet in the end some do feel that having afew design parts of the omega which use the other finalist design elements in their design could have been nice to showcase these finalists of the contest in the winning ship abit. I will agree those asking for completely having enough parts to make the gamma, alpha, or other such finalists are asking for too much, but asking for parts based on these finalists that keep in the omega's base-design would be a nice touch.
Now many also do feel the "Design your own ship" kinda implied they were going to allow us to make choices on most or all of the design choices, from starship looks to layout an even the console or pet. I think that would have gone much better as than we would have known in the end what was coming an had our hands in the mix much more, alongside that many would feel more inclined to buy a ship they had a much more direct hand in developing. In the end it still comes to this can all be seen as whining if people wish, or that many players would rather vocalize what they feel would have made the contest an ship better to inform the devs to improve later offerings in contests an ships.
Lack of customization in ships is old news, especially outside Fed ships. Lobi, Lockbox, Promo ships in particular are horrible in customization where they have none. What I'm surprised about is that Cryptic cut it short on a Fed ship, which they tend to lavish a lot of options for
Might have something to do with them also deciding to make the new Frigate Pet. The cost of building the pet was probably part of the budget of making the Carrier itself.
Are you kidding? It's like, the king of kitbashes! lol

No, sinn understood alright. He understood that you are hopelessly self-entitled, throwing childish tantrums for not getting *everything* you ever wanted. Cryptic lets you vote on the design, and you beatch about not being able to get customizations (and/or moan about whether or not you got a say in getting customizations). And then, when you grudgingly have to admit you really did ger to vote on the design, y'all come up with the next gripe:, 'OMG, they probably made a design-preselection, so it wasn't a real vote, after all!' Did I leave anything out?!
There's always someone who has to complain that they didn't get what "They" wanted. It was a community decision, and I admit, I did vote on this design. I bought it, yes, from the side she does look a bit whale-like. But otherwise she's a good looking ship. But to complain about not getting options is silly. It was a "Pick one" design, not "Many", deal with it. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

No, you didn't get everything you wanted, LOL; that's the whole point: you can't. Your mom should have taught you that by the time you turned 5; it's probably too late now.

Probably shouldn't even dignify that comment with a reply, but, while we're at it, yes, Cryptic actually does sell me a lot of turds (which I then foolishly upgrade to gold myself). And I gripe about it ever so often: cost of Dilithium, nerfs afterwards, etc. But I feel it's therefore all the more important to not forget to mention when you think Cryptic did something right. I could still gripe about not having had 100 extra ship design choices, or for having no customization, or that lockboxes suck, and the entire Upgrade system, and yada, yada, yada. Or... you could just simply say 'Yes, listening to the player base was a good thing.' If not, all you do is come off as someone trying to find fault with Cryptic at all cost.

Ad hominem and a distortion of a criticism as complaining. Pretty weak troll.
