So we got no customizations at all.. I mean I expected a least maybe a pylon shift to change the angle of warp nacelle's and maybe a hanger open and one closed on the hull.... but nothing at all... we used to get a lot more options for 2500 zen.. let alone a 3000 zen ship.
Also the ship hanger is very lacking.. for one the little control towers you can see poking through the hanger.. and there are no details inside the hanger.. on the atrox hanger you could see fighters parked in it at least... I was expecting to see some fighters.. maybe a cluster of fighters and the new light escorts that could be viewed from the out side... such a wasted opportunity given the size of the hanger and the ship..
From the console/boff layout to the lack of customizations.. to missed details... the Jupiter seems.... rushed.
please at least give us a couple customizations....

I mean it's not like you could possibly make it any uglier so... lol
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

The best argument for 3-packs is that you get some customization options even if there isn't a low tier variant of the ship around. I kinda expected this to become one, since they had several concept ideas, and the last player-involved design contest did result in a 3-pack. Of course, the Oddy doesn't have customziation variants. (Which sucks, for the record. Add some options for the Tier 6 version!)
While it's true they are better then they used to be (and they used to be and many of the old models still are, awful.) I wouldn't call what we have now 'high quality'. In a generation where driving games are seeing cars with 500k poly models, airplane games with 250k models STO's are... somewhat less then that! They are OK but not helped by misaligned textures, animations not working properly and ultimately still being a touch low on the ploy side.
But compared to the junk that populates the low tier F2P ranks what we have now is definitely a step up.
Lock box and lobi ships are even harder to get and more expensive and those usually don't get any customisation options either. They don't even have access to a full interior.
The fact that this ship costs 3000 zen means nothing.

That l must repeat the words that come without my knowledge.'
If they had given a few more parts to kitbash with, I likely would have gone with the USS Chun-Kee but as it is, whenever I see ships with no extra customing parts or they are tied up in a bundle (looking at you pilot ships with your nigh useless engineer and tac varients), I despair as theres nothing worse than seeing the same idential ship (in part its why I support shield changes should be selectable skin materials)

Complaining about the fact that a ship with eight other versions that were done, costs the same amount as other ships which all come with variant parts to customize the ship with is understandable. More often then not a ship of this cost will have at least one additional part set associated with it, and for the price they put it up as warrant a little annoyance or feeling of being ripped off. I highly doubt it would have been that much more work to make one of two more set's of parts from the other designs, that would have interested the parties that preferred thee other designs to purchase the ship thus increasing the profitability of the ship as a whole.
Might have something to do with them also deciding to make the new Frigate Pet. The cost of building the pet was probably part of the budget of making the Carrier itself.
Zen ships are paid for directly by cash.. no other way to get them.. and are a direct buy... and normally have some from of customization either there looks or like the odyssey different boff layouts...
Things like changing the angle of the pylons or a hanger open or closed is not really that huge of a issue for the "art department" we are not talking about massive skin changes to the ship...
Ya I was a little surprised we didn't at least get a couple parts of the 2nd place ship as both ships were very close to the same.
LOL. Hope you find someone to do that for you.
Seriously, though. I don't know why they didn't just use the Jupiter we saw since day 1 of the game. The model was already there, no? THAT'S what the players wanted.

Customer: I want a burger !
Underpaid person: Here is your burger, it is three days old and a cat slept on it. Enjoy !
Customer: Thank you. I wanted to complain about the mold and the cat hair, but you know what ? I ordered a burger, I got one. No reason for me to complain....
That comparison doesn't make any sense. The Jupiter is everything that was advertised in the stats. Nothing less. Nowhere was it mentioned that there would be multiple customisation options. Indeed, one might argue that it was reasonable to expect NO customisation options since the entire design was subject to input from the playerbase.
The whole idea was to make a ship that was 'designed' by the community. That's what we got.
Lock box ships aren't cash ships? Funny, the game would probably be dead if that were true.
Allow me to explain: lock box ships are likely one of the most important cash cows in the game.
Anyway, the chances of obtaining it and the prices paid are irrelevant. Someone must have paid Zen to buy a key, and it usually requires a lot more zen to buy enough keys to get a lock box ship than one needs to buy a ship directly from the z-store.
Indeed they are not in the same category. Cryptic receives a lot more money per lock box ship sold compared to the Z-store ships. If the price of the Jupiter is enough reason to demand customisation options, then there's a whole bunch of ships out there that are even more deserving of those same options. That's why I brought it up.

Reading comprehension took a nose dive...
No they are not cash ships.. you can not in any way what so ever directly buy a lock box ship.
Lockbox ships are a gambling reward... there is a difference..
One is like going to a car dealer ship.. where you pick out and buy the car you want.. up till now those cars had different options in styles and features.
The other is you go to Vegas.. there is a Car reward for a grand prize at the slot machines.. you play the slots that have many different rewards for a chance to win that one style/type car.
Oddly enough, I support this. The new model is just waaaay too streamlined for my taste and in comparison to the original. It might have been a bathtub in space, but darn it - it was a bathtub that gathered much support around it! Sometimes ugly is beautiful.
Actually from the way things were worded during the voting process the other ships were NOT fully done. During round one just a basic model, round two a little more refined, and round three even more refined. If they had it all done, why did they have to wait for the art team to actually finish modeling the winner before releasing it?
Exactly!

That depends on if you mean a full mock-up or mere concept designs, which is more what i meant is that they had many concept art designs drawn up by a few images that shows a general idea of how the ships might look. To me for the money i would have thought it would have been a good idea to just model some of those losing ship's parts to add more customization options as the process went on, even if it was just from the second stage on that is a lot of refined concept art that could have been further put forth to add more appeal to the player-base. That is the fact though you have this large carrier costing 3k zen having just one set of parts, when an equal or even some less costly ships can have two or three sets of parts on purchase (an some not even because of previous designs from lower tiers) feels rushed an even a let down (with eight ships in concept an then four that were refined i would have thought some of the parts of the refined ones could have been used as additional part variations). Though i also just think it is a over-sight on the part of the devs to create a ship that could have appealed to more players by giving them parts from the losing ships, thinking more of a mix-bag of random parts from the four finalists, which could have at least use these to model the winning in a more appealing design for themselves via these parts.
