P.S. the new Jupiter looks nothing like the old one aside from some very, very superficial silhouette similarities. Don't know why everybody kept saying the Omega design looked like the old Jupiter, smh... #longliveteamalpha
Funny, and I thought at first how similar they look. Human brain's pattern matching at its finest, I guess.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
Not accurate depiction of actual size. The Odyssey is also far too small.
Please disregard, keep your pitch forks sheathed, and your torches unlit.
HMMM??? It's sitting right there beside it. Please explain.
There are like 5 or 6 different Odysseys you can choose from in the costume creator in Foundry. I went to check to see if this picture was accurate and it's not. I used the "Fleet Odyssey" variant, the one with the Aquarius in the back, and when I compared the two in space they are much closer in size than that.
I don't know which Odyssey variant you used, but that one is awfully small compared to how big it actually is in-game.
LOL, nevermind! I found what the issue is with your weird sizing. It appears that using the Type 7 hull material on the Jupiter in Foundry nearly triples its size when viewed in-game. In the picture below you can see the Jupiter with the Type 6 hull material on the left, and then the massively-oversized Jupiter with the Type 7 material on the right.
There is also a Pilot Escort under the left Jupiter, Aquarius Escort between the left Jupiter and Odyssey (as a reference for the new hangar pets), Command Battlecruiser, and Odyssey Cruiser in the image for scale.
This is a rather amusing bug, so much so I wish they made the ship that big permanently. It would certainly beat the Vonph as the largest ship in the game, LOL.

Apparently, but the OP was also having the issue of the Jupiter being oversized. Regardless, I feel I need to say that the Jupiter needs more windows! The ship is massive, and has at least 30 decks in total, probably many more, yet there's so few windows on the ship! I mean, just look at it compared to the original Jupiter and you can see the disparity between them in terms of window count!
P.S. the new Jupiter looks nothing like the old one aside from some very, very superficial silhouette similarities. Don't know why everybody kept saying the Omega design looked like the old Jupiter, smh... #longliveteamalpha
More windows? For that, the ship would have to be designed by Caitans (insert cats loving to sit in windows joke here)
As for jupiter similarities, it's the saucer shape. The way it starts as an ovoid, then bends a bit outward, turns sharply into a straight line on the sides, then another sharp inward curve, and round butt. If you squint your eyes and look at it from the right angle (so that you blur out the different arrangement of nacelles and the bathtub under the original-jupes's saucer), the similarities become even more apparent
I think it's funny how any super capital ships Starfleet appearently pumps out these days. The Galaxy was already a big ship - so big that canonically not many of those were built initially because of the effort involved.
In STO it's kinda the default size for cruiser ships. Guardian, Command Cruisers, Oddyssey and the variants of each, now jupiter - how many types of super capital ships can a fleet need that all more or less serve the exact same purpose?

Maybe the devs slowly want to ease us into the realm of enterprise-J dimensions.
I mean stuff just is getting bigger and bigger, the Annorax, the Vonph and now the Jupiter. The next thing will probably be the size of ESD if they continue like that.
I don't care how big it is. I only came across the pics on imgur. See the link in my first post ya ninnies. I didn't make these pics. I found them on the internet.
Well, in Star Trek, every ship design generation or two, the main cruiser lines do get bigger.
Constitution->Excelsior->Ambassador-->>>Galaxy
Hell, you can see that in real life with ships. Ships classified as a frigate or destroyer these days are as big as a cruiser would have been in WWII timeframe. A full-fledged Fleet Carrier in WWII like an Essex Class are little babies compared to a Nimitz-class or even the long decommissioned Forrestal-class.

Because I guess it a reflection of the fact that, "canonically", ships have been getting progressively larger throughout the in-universe "history" of the franchise. And will continue to do so.

That's a fair point if we look at evolution, like Ambassador -> Galaxy -> Oddyssey. But why do we have so many super heavy ships alongisde each other that basically all perform the same duties? Star Cruisers, Exploration Cruisers, Expedition Cruisers (Guardian, in-game graphic displays "Long Range Expedition Cruiser"), Command Battlecruisers (despite the name they do nothing a Galaxy couldn't do, for example), Oddyssey Star Cruisers - they all basically do the same, yet we have so many new ship classes being comissioned - it's just hard to put that in any kind of logic. It's not that one substitutes for the other, they all run alongside each other. And especially if we truly believe all these classes are comissioned in a matter of months (2409 to 2410). If we would assume a season marks a year we'd be in 2420 now. It'd be easier to believe that.

The out-of-game reasons for all those ships is obvious, but if we want to come up with in-universe explanations:
Maybe a mix of quick technological advancement and advanced construction mechanics making it easy to design completely new hulls. You can also quickly update any existing ship ,but you don't need to reuse a design either, because that's also quickly done.

My head canon is that larger ships like the Odyssey and Guardian head up small task force groups mostly made up of the smaller cruisers and escorts. When formed up with the larger fleet those task forces take up the role of squadrons. These larger ships act as the task forces command ship and behave like a hub for the smaller craft coming and going from the task force staging area for patrols/whatever mission they may have in the area.
Ive always felt that aside from starships on first contact/five year missions the bulk of Starfleet starships stick together and only spread out on a more local level (Sectors) to conduct an assortment of missions from militaristic to scientific. But because we only see the Hero Ship and Crew the majority of the time. We're given the impression that Starfleet is spread thin and outnumbered.
Been away for a while...from the forums, that is. Okay my 2 LP comment.
As a carrier, having the warp nacelles out in the open, is no, no...either have them enclosed (covered) or armored protected. The crew size is too small, but at today's tech in the STU, you may not need that high count of bodies. But the quantity needs to be higher a bit.
Besides reading the stats, and the turn rate is based on sea going carrier of said size. Got no problem there.

I was just in the foundry comparing the Jupiter with the Type 7 material to another Jupiter with the Type 6 material and I had no such issue, so it must be something else you did.

I'm waiting patentially for the day that they allow us to fly Deep Space Nine, but with warp and slipstream engines attached.
It will turn like TRIBBLE, but it will have 6 hangar bays so who cares.
In all seriousness I think people would object to type 7 Jupiter Class ships ecilpysing DS9, Drozena, Fleet Star Bases and Earth Station. It might be confusing too, I could see people getting upset when they try and dock with your Jupiter Type 7 in order to see Admiral Quinn and can't .
Okay seriously serious this time the regular Jupiter have more crew this deep space nine (although DS9 has a capacity of 7000, although a Jupiter Class ship that empties it hangar bays might be able to fit that many).
Its awesome, the Jupiter has over twice the crew of a Galaxy Class ship, more crew then DS9, nearly as much science ability as voyager (although abit less then Pathfinder verison), and spits out up to 4 light escorts which are like less bulky, more manvuerible defiants, has its own intelligence gathering capabilities, and it has a console for coordinating its allies, both pets and players.
i wonder if the console works on stuff like mines and targetable torpedoes (I could see that making sense with the sentient bio-neural warhead, its practically a fighter its self).
It would be nice to be able to use intel windows on it. Intel windows are so small and densely packed they really give that "many decks/heavily populated" look to me.
Also, if the model is already in game for foundry use, maybe the ship proper is actually in the game and will unlock on friday or something instead of making us wait till next Thursday patch... *crosses fingers*
Thanks for posting these pics btw. A nice lineup like this for size comparison and shots from pleasing angles without the ship apparently swimming through split pea soup/being in colored lighting that tints the ship is far more conducive to appreciating the modeling team's work.
And large parts of the ship don't have windows because of the Hangar Bays, which are massive on the ship.
One thing that confuses me is why is there some kind of forcefield at the front of the ship, like the ones on the sides are the hangar bays, but there appears to be one on the fronts of the ship too.
