Will we be disappointed with the free dreadnought?

The Samsar, as nice looking as it is, was a disappointment boff seating wise. If it had a LT Cmd tac, I'd proably be using it a LOT more. Will the dreadnought end up the same? I don't eve know what's the requirement for a dreadnought. Cruisers have 4x4, BC's have 5x3, escorts have 4x3 with cmd tac. Science ships typically seems to have 3x3 with many sci boff seating.

How would they fit out a dreadnought class? Are there even any specific guide lines for dreadnoughts? Does it get LOTS of hp and sacrifice the boff seating? or do they increase a little bit of HP and add fighter bays?

I thought the samsar was fine personally. It was a resilient cruiser with science lean. I dunno why anyone would be disappointed considering it's free. From what we can deduce from the admiralty card the breen dreadnought will be engineering heavy so if you were disappointed with the samsar prepare to be disappointed again.

Edit: as for the dreadnought as a class the guidelines seem pretty lose. Sto has a lot of ship's called dreadnought with very different layouts. The only consistent thing seems to be a hangar.

We'll see stats before the grind event starts, so don't worry about going in blind. Judging by the Admiralty card, it has less of an Eng focus, which should mean a different BOff layout.

I have mixed reviews for the latest free ships:

Dyson - worst ship in the game
Samsar - very durable but not enough oomph
Breen carrier - sci tac hybrid. I still use it for 1 character. top marks
    Ferengi - just blows up

Given it's an ENG card, it's going to be ENG-centric. But I suspect that its second Eng seat (possibly Lt or LtC) will be an Eng/Hybrid, and will allow for some flexibility. It may either lean to Sci or to Tac for secondary abilities, though I'd hazard maybe Tac over Sci and basically have the setup of the Kobali Samsar but with an LtC Tac and only an Lt Sci instead.

Command is probably the only likely Specialization available, unless they choose to make it a double Hybrid; then whatever is the Lt Seat is likely to be Hybrid as well, probably Intel. Assuming a Tac layout of the Samsar as mentioned above, then the Lt Sci seat would play host to the second Hybrid, with the Ensign Uni being left to slot Sci Team 1.

Engineering heavy ship, fairly large, slow turn rate.

Probably have a special console that gives it a lance type weapon to fit the 'Dreadnought' theme. Probably be Polaron though, since it's a Breen Ship. Probably have a moderately useful defensive oriented trait.

One hangar bay with fighter pets. Hopefully, it will be able to stock Plesh Brek Raiders.

The Give Away ships are usually ships that are useful to those that don't have any purchased T6 ships. They're designed to be good enough to handle end game content and be serviceable all around ships. If you're expecting something that's going to put C-Store ships to shame, then you'll likely be disappointed.

If you're expecting a good ship that works well and can get you though end game content, then your expectations should be met.
    Insert witty signature line here.

I'm reasonably certain that it will have a commander engineering. Weather it leans towards tac/sci/eng secondary, I can't say. (Yes, they might make it awful by giving it a lt. commander engineering.) I've never been able to accurately guess what specializations ships might have, so I won't bother. It will most likely have a single hangar bay and won't be able to launch frigates.

Surprisingly, I have different opinions about most of those ships (except the Samsar).
Dyson (sci mode) - does just as fine as any other science ship of that tier
Dyson (tac mode) - only useful in a specialized protonic poloron drain build. (It can also close rifts just as fast as science ships in the mirror universe event.)
    Samsar - agree with you
Sar Theln - never liked carriers, slow turn, etc.
Nandi - just blows up everything :D

You are not going to get a multi Specialization ship. That seems to be reserved for the Lockbox/Special Box ships only.

The Astika is a engineering card and it's pretty heavy on offence so I'm not sure if the cards are a good thing to go by.

I survived in the Badlands with an NX...mostly...so I personally doubt there is no such thing as a useless ship. There are ships, and slightly better ships.

I mean c'mon, these days rainbow beams are even viable. How much ship do we ever actually need eh?

I will accept it in the spirit it is intended, as a season gift (though tied to a fun event) and as such it costs no money, comes with a admiralty card and is an account wide unlock.
whether you ever or never fly it, like or don't like the design or weapons/console slots layout I really cant see what anyone has to be disappointed about.
I have received many free ships from cryptic, some I have used, some I have not used but regardless they are always gratefully received even more so now I can use them with the admiralty system even if I never fly them.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

If you're disappointed by a T6 ship that takes a bit of grinding instead of zen, you might just be a little too self-entitled.

Yeah for the most part i will look forwards to it, though my only fact that i wish they would do is give us parts for both the new an old model designs. Some players like the new Sar's design, while others like the older model that was used, while myself i just love to use parts to create a ship design i personally like. Even if these parts were placed into the event as a project you could complete to gain access to, than i would be quite happy with that fact an hope that the dry dock feature is in place by the release. An honestly i am sure that the breen-dreadnaught will have a polaron-lance, which seems to be part of the charactization of a dread alongside of the addition of a hanger, but i do kinda hope we might see a torpedo-variant (Tansphasic torpedo version) counterpart to the beam-lance weapons that we see alot.

I've always felt the freebie ships are more than adequate for any situation.
They pretty much all give an introduction into a certain class of ship or a piloting style so if you do enjoy them you can go and buy a c-store ship version in that area that will be better overall.
But for freebies they are more than adequate for any content in STO, besides maybe elite pve queues.

The event rep ships have consistently been high quality. Statistically they are up there with lockbox ships (except for the anniversary DSD which is base C-Store grade). I have a toon that has always flown the latest free ship for years and I have never been disappointed in one.

And now, a free UR admiralty card is already good enough for me, so the ship itself could basically be a steaming pile of s*** and I still wouldn't be disappointed in it.

On the other hand, if you're asking "will there be whiners on the forums complaining that the ship is not a totally overpowered I Win button perfectly tailored to their individual preferences"...duh, of course there will. That's like asking if the sun is going to rise in the morning.

I'll get it for the free ship card and to complete the Breen ship collection, but an engineering biased Dreadnought isn't getting my juices flowing enough to use it over my already established ships.

Depends on stat's, console and trait, like most ships these days.

My best guess is that It'll be similar to a toned down Sheshar command dreadnought.

    4/4 weapon layout
    4 tac 4 eng 3 sci or 3 tac 5 eng 3 sci
    1.1 to 1.2 shield modifier
    Built in polaron spinal lance
    1 hangar
+10 to weapons +10 to shields or +5 weapons +5 aux +10 shields
Commander engineer, lt. cmdr engineer command, lt. tac, ensign tac, lt. sci.
Universal console: best guess "siege breaker mode" increase weapon power and maybe damage, decrease shields or "crioshell" increase damage resistance and temporary hit points, 4pc bonus: +polaron damage +damage resistance
Trait: +5 to maximum power levels
    Weapon System Efficiency
    Attract Fire

I blame it on the marketing materials. Your first experience with it is really more an exercise in torture. It would otherwise have been a reasonable example of a science ship, if not for the various factors at the time of release:
    1. Introductory mission to it is a form of horrible torture.
Indeed. They should really give it a sensible bridge office layout.

It's just as bad as the Doomsday Machine mission, especially if you (re)play it on a high level character - a Tier 1 ship against Level 60 shuttle pets is suddenly a totally tedious and boring affair.

When a T6 Dyson ship comes out with an enhanced BOFF layout it will be a far more interesting ship. It was never bad just ugly, the fed version atleast as the other two were pretty nice.

The only thing that kept it from being great was the mediocre BOFF layout but now with T6 it can have an extra LTCMDR Science which will really make it awesome.

Personally yes, cause Breen styling, like Ferengi and many other ship visuals, are displeasing. If it is another Breen ship, it will hit the scrapyard upon unlocking the starship trait and admiralty card - so much for the precious exclusivity that's supposed to showcase what others missed out on.

Might as well release a Malon trash disposal unit heavy escort carrier with toxic barrels as fighters with ramming speed at this point as far as aesthetics - causing the water to become thick glowing sludge as it sits there polluting Risa.

I only like the Samsar cause it both looks good and tanks great, and still want to fly it on rare occasion.

Wasn't here for the Dysons, and instead of buying a Rom Dyson I've settled on the seemingly-eternal wait for a proper Rom T6 Science ship without gimmicks and that are actually flexible in gear set up, as a real Sci should be.

The Corvette was unfairly taken from us by not giving proper notice to slot the ship if you want it before exclusivity hit, and after much feedback we all got a good trade-off: account-wide event ship unlocks.

A T6 Risian Corvette, Boat, Submarine, whatever, for Risa would be highly anticipated. Perhaps promoting some other species' ships by approximating something new for Andorian, Caitian, Ferasan, Vulcan, etc., might also boost participation and metrics if followed up on with C-Store versions.

Personally i like the breen designs and despite heavy engineering i have yet to see a breen ship which did not wield considerable amount of tactical. I'm pretty sure the stats will be mind blowing although it will probably have command specialization and not the much coveted pilot.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
