Space magic is fun, and the class was stupidly OP in PvP. I can't tell you how many people lost out to a well timed subnuc or sensor scan. These days, any class can DPS, it's just a matter of whether you have a handicap or not.
To me science is the most complex and interesting than the others. In honesty all of the paths end in a tactical comibnation of science-engineering-tactical balance.

You really should have placed the options in a different order so Sci would show up as blue and Eng as yellow
I like all three. But I like toys more than buffs/debuffs, it does feel more like actually doing something to me. Which would be Eng on ground, but Sci in space (although the latter does depend more on the ship than the actual career, but since I set up almost all my toons to have their ship coincide with their career choice, it's the same). While Decloak-Alpha-BFAW can be fun, too, I prefer a Gravwell and then dump all AoE animations on the poor guys. Really a shame that a lot of enemies blow up before I have even deployed everything

I am very surprised by the poll answers, I was expecting exactly the opposite with sci being the least popular and tac being the most! I like sci because first of all, I am not a fulltime soldier/warrior but a diplomat and medic who's obsessed with immortality as well as magical powers (think Herald stuff, and gravity well) rather than just dishing out pure same ol' deeps!

I am surprised as well, but I guess it goes to show that the forum community is not necessarily representative of the player base as a whole, which we should always keep in mind. (This Cryptic infographic which I cannot find anymore showed more than 50% of all players being Tac IIRC)

Very interesting that Tactical by far overshot the rest in terms of use, yet the votes here suggest it is the least favorite of the 3.
So, even though people like science and engineering more, they are less popular because they don't serve up the pain quite as much. Good to know people will play a class they seem to dislike most if it means your combat is easier. : P
I think some people are lying...considering half the game is Tac.
Or it's just the problem of self-selection bias. No one is forced to enter the poll - so maybe more science fans are reporting in because they want to make their voices heard, hoping to achieve something.
But Cryptic has always been looking at other spots for their information - sales, player statistics. The dreaded metrics.
For me it has the most fun abilities. AOE and CC everywhere. Also has the more challenging and flexible builds.
It seems you are talking about ship class, not career class. Sure, Sensor Scan and Dampening Field can be counted as AoE and Subnucleonic Beam as CC, but I somehow doubt that what you were referring too.
Unless you talk ground. Science is a favorite on ground for me, too. Some fo the flashiest spells in there.
Figured someone would have to nitpick my response sooner or later. Plenty of other people in this thread have commented on more than the built in skills, please nitpick them too.
Engineering, adaptability to situations. Turrets, Mortars, Drones, and run in with a Batleth. Not the best at many things but able to adapt to somany different things, especially on ground where I am up to 5 or 6 different situational kits. It's like having Batman's utility belt.
In space a squishy ship gains Miracle worker, while a Dreadnought Cruiser can go lone wolf and feedback pulse.
Engineers are the Jack of all Trades.
Although, I have 12 toons, 4 of each class, only 2 are Feds.
Thanks for the Advanced Light Cruiser, Allied Escort Bundles, Jem-Hadar Light Battlecruiser, and Mek'leth

I tried all three professions but eventually downsized to one tac captain. FoMM is a dull skill compared to Sub-Nukes and Rotate Shield Frequency, but when you can regularly generate DPS numbers that others struggle to reach, then the game becomes much more entertaining.
Interesting poll so far.
This is not what I had expected.
To clarify my answer a bit (which was TAC) for PvE I run my tac as my main now days.
But when I do PvP its my Sci that's the main.
A little while ago my Sci was my main for PvE and PvP, and it was this way for years. But it always annoyed me that Tacs would get better results using science abilities, so I kind of went to the dark side, and decided, why try to fight it.
And about the time DR was released, I switched over to Tac full time for my PvE adventures.
Id also like to note that I do have 3 characters I play often enough to not consider them alts.
1 Sci, 1 Eng, 1 Tac.
They all have good qualities really. And when I'm bored of one style, Ill just switch over to another career. Adds some nice variety.
Wish I could manage 3 careers per faction, but I just don't have the time.
It allows you to break the mold of pew pew everything to death and instead you can make all the shinies cause stuff to explode. (Seizure Beam in particular)
Tactical...if Kirk was a part of the trinity he'd be a tac captain

I would say science because my main is a science guy.. oh TRIBBLE now I have to create a Sci toon-Bill Nye. anyway I love the sci abilities, though Miracle worker and eps power transfer III simply rock

Tactical Team sucked, once upon a time. I got it buffed. Don't think for a minute that Cryptic ignores forum feedback.

Yup...because you can't beat anything unless you're Tac!
But Cryptic has always been looking at other spots for their information - sales, player statistics. The dreaded metrics.
The question isn't if you can beat something, but how fast you can beat it.
You must not have seen the amount of 50k+ DPS Sci captains.

Majority is Tactical Captain - 50 %+
Engineers - 30 %~
Sciences - 20 %~
But this statistics for ALL Captains...
If you take main characters... there will be even more Tacs (70 %~)

Plus, force multipliers on the ground.
I will say that Science comes a close second in space, and Tactical on the ground.
