Question regarding "returning players"

officerbatman81officerbatman81 Member Posts: 2,761 Arc User
So there is this huge influx of self proclaiming "returning players" recently. But i notice that their post count is 1 or some single digit number.

So either these players kept entirely silent in their former life or forum profile got wiped for inactivity or something and had to start a new forum profile?
Whats the deal with that? Just really curious how that works.

Edit: Also need to acknowledge the possibility the forum migration may have effected them in some way....

Well, you also have to consider that us forum members are, to a certain degree, a minority of players. There's plenty of STO players who never bothered with the forums before when they make their first post, or have posted only rarely, despite three and four and more years actually playing.

I myself only went to the forum after a fleetmate suggested it as a source of information about the game. Granted that was years ago, but... :p

I came back last Fall after being away for more than a year. I only joined the forums after Delta Rising.

In my case, I've been a LTS since 3 weeks after launch, and never really left the game either, some folks like to lurk, glean info and not participate, especially when we don't have anything constructive to add.

the only thing I hate about returning players is they always want a blow by blow account of everything they've missed while they have been away.
I'm always like - log in and find out for yourself bozo.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

I've been playing sence beta, and come and go a lot and this will bring my post number up to a grand total of 1 mainly becouse this forum layout is a nightmare and I hate using the arc launcher.

I'd be interested what your hypothesis is int he first place, OP. There are plenty of reasons already mentioned why long-time players never made a forum account or lost their account in one of the merges. But what was your intent? Claiming that new freebie players just lie because...?

What does that have to do with the forum? I don't use Arc but visit the forum semi-regularly.

Yeah, you can use the forum in a browser without the Arc overlay. I know because I do, you're not alone with your dislike of Arc.

I don't dislike ARC I just don't like it very much, I use it to launch sto and little else.
the web interface in arc is just not as good as a standard browser, they would have been better off making the ARC social link just open your chosen browser with the web page shortcut like this - http://www.arcgames.com/en/social/all
as well as each individual forum link open the appropriate web page and so on.
and it also would have made the ARC launcher software smaller in the process.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

You are assuming that they used the forums before, or that they have used the forums after the switch to the forums when they switched to the "updated" forums shortly after the F2P conversion, wich reset everyone (me for example would probably have around 11k posts if that had not happend).
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

I just think so many people starting up at the forums saying theyre returning but with no posts was weird and suspicious. Maybe just MAYBE i thought they actually new and wanted to save face or wanted to not appear ingorant or feel singled out....perhaps fear of flaming, what not.

But if your a STO player, whether avid, whale, f2p'er, casual......why not get interactive with the others on the official forum. This is yours as much as it is theirs, we all questions and observations, prolly the same ones. We're all comrades here, come join in, you dont have to be a voyeur at the side of the room and watch people talk. This is a mmo not a single player game.
