We need access to all available races except Lib Borg and Talaxian. Factions would only determine what missions we get to choose from.
We should be able to be renegade Humans in the KDF forces. Or Vulcan citizens living among the Romulans. Or Gorn studying at the Fed Academy.
As for Lib. Borg, we should be permitted to choose any of the default races, then decide whether to make them a Lib. Borg instead as a sub-option, which changes their traits and gives the character customizer access to Lib Borg details. So if I wanted to play as a Fed Lib. Borg Ferengi, I select Ferengi, then choose Lib. Borg as a selectable sub-option. This would load a default Borg Ferengi, but we can customize them to look mostly like a regular Ferengi.
As to new races, I vote Rebel Iconian Survivor from the Mirror-verse, Terrans, Mirror Tal Shiar/Romulans, and Mirror KDF who prefers Kumbayas to Batleths. I also vote for Voth, Breen, and Risian races.
The new race mentioned in the blog is the Sphere Builders.
They are the ones that we 'created' by our messing with time (remember the scientist's wife who got erased?)
I could see her race being a new advasary not like a new enemy, or villian, but just a advasary that comes about, and we see thier emergence as the sphere builders. I loved the look, clothying, and such to her race just not sure that they would be a playable race.
While I don't want playable cubes, I do think it'd be neat to see, and maybe even have playable, Cooperative probes and spheres.

Cardassians would be a more logical race being that they were involved in the defense of earth and the iconian war.
Cardassians are coming. You know it. Cryptic doesn't put that much work into something without milking it dry (new revamped cardassian story arc). TBH, I'm kinda happy about it. I hope they don't just offer a playable race for 10 bucks in the C-store though. I hope they actually make a expansion out of it. Give us like 9 cardassian, Breen , Bajorian and Maquis ships. Maybe even a "real" Jem hadar Dreadnought this time around. Make the Jem'hadar and founders the bad guys of the expansion and everything is set. Take my money.
I used to love the idea of a Cardassian faction...but now...I'd be happier if they just made a playable race...I don't want them to turn out like the Romulans. I don't want them to make a handful of ships and give them some kind of gimmick, then roll out a few more ships...a really powerful one to milk customers...then their Bortasqu' effect ship as their excuse to not make many new Cardassian ships.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
This thread gets started once a month recently it seems, and each time I ask the same questions: how do you contextualize ranks and leveling up as a Borg drone? How do you contextualize "commanding" a Borg vessel when the only actual commanding presence within the Borg is the Queen herself? It needs to make sense that we can play as the Borg, not just "it would be cool." It would make more sense to end up playing a Liberated Borg faction (which we have now as part of the Delta Alliance), with possibly the tutorial being as a standard Borg drone who becomes liberated at the end of the tutorial chain (preferably before ground combat since thematically Borg don't move very fast on the ground).
If we really played as Borg Drone - the player represents the will of the Collective for a particular drone, its unit and its ship. Everything our character does is because that's what the Collective wants it to do.
It's a simple principle of shared narrative rights in a role playing game.
But if we are Cooperative, we're still individuals, so there isn't anythnig difficult to "contextualize".
If these are lockbox ships the Lobi Consortium "liberated", then you need even less. And after the Lobo Consortium being able to refit Undine Bioships for use by Starfleet, Romulan Republic or Klingon Defense Force officers, it's really easy to believe.

ME KILL YOU *cue buttkicking living-pizza-style*
That would be great especially if you get to replace your Prime Universe counterpart in the Federation, KDF, or Romulan Republic.
