Can we pretty please meet Lt. Whetu and Elyos in game at some point? Pretty Please with Gagh on top?!

It's a pretty good bet that they will be on Utopia Planitia for the next anniversary event - along with the new Flagships. :)

Did someone say special plans for the Odyssey? Please do explain.
  • jaturnleyjaturnley Member Posts: 1,218 Arc User
I wonder if the "special plans" for the Odyssey mean a new Specialization? This story discusses upgrading the Dreadnought, in which case they turn it into a Command Ship. It's then asked "why not just update the Odyssey?" Well if they have special plans for the Odyssey, then maybe that means they'll do more than just make her a Command Ship? Maybe we're getting something new?
Borticus mentioned that they do have more specs in the pipe on TTS, but no confirmation as to what or when.

I do so love this story - especially the not-so-subtle response to all the 'oh so we're celebrating a new era of peace with DREADNAUGHTS' postings I've seen recently.

Dunno about the rest of you, but I actually really enjoy these short stories, they are awesome at fleshing out the universe!
If someone who knew the future pointed out a child to you and told you that that child would grow up totally evil to be a ruthless dictator who would destroy millions of lives... could you then kill that child?

Do Romulans get a flagship finally for the updated oddy and obv the bortas....

Before everyone says...you have the SCIMITAR...I would like to easily point out a few fun facts

1, It is a Reman designed ship
2, WE Romulans have no way of obtaining a command vessel like the basic oddy or bortas from the shipyard
3, We Romulans still don't have a fleet uniform to go with the oddy uniform or bortas uniform

    Cant I be a 2/3 fraction instead of a 1/3 fraction

Yes romulans don't have command array powers. Instead they get singularity powers which are a lot more useful.

I Bet the Odyssey ends up being a certain carrier currently being voted on. ;)

Still waiting to be able to use forum titles

Here here. I was quite disappointed when they released the Romulan faction flagship and I think it's about time we had the Romulan faction as a full faction rather than a sub one.

“This is a lot to take in. Dreadnought refits? Aren’t those ships already powerhouses? I’d think that it would be more effective to start with refits to the smaller vessels. Faster, less work, quicker to field.”

Interesting to see the politics behind Starfleet's considerable weaponization program.
Also kudos to Elyos for straightening out the phaser lance array. :p

No, the special plan for the Odyssey is to fix the design flaw they discovered during the war. The Odyssey ships that were badly damaged during the battle tried to evaluate the ship by moving everyone to the saucer section only to realize :o that they couldn't separate the saucer section because those ships had launched there Aquarius escorts at the beginning of the battle .
Many crewmen died that day because of that flaw. :'(

    Diplomacy and exploration, hope so.

Hestia, yes, the uni ensign was much needed and much appreciated.

War against the Feds and KDF? Yes please, an independent faction has been overdue (I know, it's just a dream).

Odyssey, with stats and looks that make it a flagship not just in name would be most welcome and highly anticipated. Wouldn't expect more power creep, but something to make it unique and outstanding considering existing cruisers and battlecruisers.

Well everyone is focused on the Command T6 Odyssey, this got my attention:
They’re not wrong. Anything could be next. Kelvans? We don’t know what happened to them after the Iconians moved to Andromeda. Metrons? They said they’d come back to check in on us. Excalbians? The whale probe that showed up in the late 23rd? All these species have really advanced powers and any of them could give us problems at any time.

Seems the future lies in the Andromeda galaxy with the likely return of some "old friends".

BTW, hope they meant the Kelvans who remained in the Andromeda Galaxy. They forgot that Kelvans from TOS were still around in DS9 and Worf even said he fought them once. But makes me wonder, why did the Iconians attack the Andromeda Galaxy, when their anger was against the Romulans and looking for their lost ball? Just makes the ending of the Iconian Arc look less thought out, storywise.

    Just saying.

The "kemocite" line was a really bad joke. That means you are perfectly aware that those "lot of" captains use it because it's bugged, but still haven't done anything to fix it.

What a shame because I was about to start STO, you made me quit the launcher nice and clean. Good job.

“Isn’t that ship getting a little long in the tooth? I mean, the Andromeda-class is basically a huge overhaul for a Galaxy, as-is. And this is trying to extend that even further. Why not just improve the Odyssey?”

“My guess is that Command has special plans for the Odyssey,” said Elyos, but with a demurring motion he added, “not that a minor ensign such as myself would be in those kinds of meetings.”
Damn. Now I want a Odyssey-X even more. She would have been far superior. But eh, glad to see we're getting a T6 Odyssey.

I also found it equally hilarious that they also consider the Gal-X a bit of junk that was only being refurbished due to influence by a certain Admiral, and the need to use Kemocite-laced weapons on it.

Now if the T6 Tac Odyssey/Bort/Scimitar get a Starship Mastery Trait that grants a weaker version of Kemocite, that'd be perfect. Bonus if they get slightly updated skins (and a Romulan-design for the Scimitar; massive and sleek, but still menacing).

I'd even understand that if it wasn't for a multitude on things. Kemocite really is just one.

so... is this an endorsement of the kemocite? Should everyone plunk down 600 million to 1.8 billion to get multiple copies?

Now that I think about it, I'm hoping the T6 Odyssey and the accompanying Bortas and Scimitar will have a Universal Specialist Hybrid seat or two. If they never include such a seat again in-game, they should at least make it available on the Flagships. That way, they will be compatible with current and future Specializations. Just upgrade the Lt.Cmdr Universal to Lt.Cmdr Universal/UniSpec and the Ensign Uni to Lt. Universal/UniSpec, and it would be perfect for the Flagships. It won't be OP since none of them will be able to access SS3 or other Commander level Specialist skills, but they will be potent enough as befitting a Flagship.

Really a nice read. And i like all the jokes about "politics" (read: players) crying for bigger badder ships :D

Let me try a more constructive tactic.

Why does this upset you so much?

The Odysseys were in a 3 pack like the Command ships already Fleet Standard.

Looking forward to properly presented ships for a change.

Crying for new versions of old ships rather than embracing the newer ones is what I got out of it, though I personally found it funnier that the Galaxy-X got to be the butt of the joke.

But then again, I'm biased against it since I never liked the 3-nacelle setup, short and fat nacelles, and the wide saucer, so I enjoyed the jab far more.

For the record, I am using it as part of the bundle I purchased, and it's barely tolerable with the angled nacelles and a different saucer being the only changes I made to the base Yamato design. That said, it's nice that the new alternate hulls all look much better than the original two the old Galaxy-X had access to.
