You can earn a T6 ship if you are willing to put in the time to acquire the Dilithium to convert to Zen. I did it and as lazy as I am, anyone else ought to be able to do so as well.
indeed, I even got the entire T6 Delta Rising - Operations Pack retail price €143.99 for free mostly by grinding dil with just a little bit of lifetime stipend to top it off.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
T5 U Jem'Hadar Dreadnought still rocks even against T6 ships, you just have to outfit it right. Galaxy X T5 U is also a good opponent against T6 if the outfit is right....

"Coffee: the finest organic suspension ever devised. It's got me through the worst of the last three years. I beat the Borg with it."
I understand cryptic has to make money, but making it so endgame is inaccessible unless you buy a ship kind of sucks. I wasted money on a tier 5 ship and then upgraded it t t5-u. That's the same price as t6, but I can't compete with t6 ships.
So will cryptic update the t5-u ships to be competitive? or is pay to win always going to be the core strategy of the game?
Failing that maybe a lvl 60 quest could be added that lets players earn a t6 ship.
Point 1: What ship are you talking about? See point 2 to find out why I'm asking...
Point 2: Keep in mind a few things. "Tier 5" contains "3" community-nicknamed tiers - the "true" T5 which consists of the original T5 "freebies", T5+1 - ships specced like a T5 but have a "clicky console" or other power, and Fleet T5 (aka T5.5 / FT5) which, by definition, has an "fleet upgrade pack" that consists of +1 console (10th) and 10% greater hull/shield values than "baseline" T5s (and the T5+1s that share T5 numbers).
Every "T5" C-store ship that does not have a "fleet" variant in the in-game shipyards, along with all the lockbox & lobi ships, are specced at the T5.5 "fleet" strength - the Regent, Avenger, Vesta, and DSD line are but a few of these ships that come to you straight at the T5.5 level...
When T6 released, they applied a "level up upgrade package" (comparble to say going from T4 to T5) to the baseline T5s, consisting of: +10% shields / hull, +1 console (from T5's original 9 to 10), and an extra BOff seat (13th). To "spice up" T6, they added the starship mastery system (specific packages of T1-T4 bonuses based on the class of ship, and unique 5th level masteries that grant starship traits) and specialist BOff seating.
So, at this point, if you compare a T5.5 to a T6, you find that:
Hull and shields are "identical" (based on class/hull/concept/design)
Consoles are identical
Then, after adding the T5 Upgrade Token to a T5.5 (additional +10% shields/hull, additional console, L1-4 of the "mastery packages"), in light of the fact that T5.5s are already somewhat close to T6s, you find:
Hull and shields of a T5.5 are actually greater that a T6 - considered "compensation" for the starship trait
The T5U11 has an 11th console - sort of intended to compensate for T6s 13th BOff seat
They both have the "standard for class" mastery bonuses.
BUT if you applied the T5U token to a T5 or T5+1, the "bonuses" only make the result "fleet grade". Which is why "conventional wisdom" states that you "never upgrade anything that's not fleet"...
One final complication: there now exists a fleet Tier 6, and a few T6 ships (like the command cruiser line, maybe the pilot line) release straight to this FT6, others (like the intel line, pathfinder, etc.) have FT6 upgrades available in the fleet shipyards. These are going to outclass T5U11s just like Fleet T5s outclassed regular T5s...
Point 3: As others have mentioned, we've gotten chances to have at least 3 T6 ships via events, and there will be more on the off chance you've missed the previous attempts...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

LMAO! "Butmaking it so endgame is inaccesible unless you buy a ship kind of sucks" OMG really? I just played through the entire Iconian war with a Dyson T5U Science destroyer on a Rom Toon and I'm talking about the event ship not the superior Zen one also did the entire Iconian war with a Risian T5U Corvette. I am also in the middle of doing the same thing with a standard Prometheus Escort. Guess what it's doable if you take time to gear it out with half way decent Level 12's. I guess you think you need the newest shiney to do anything. Maybe you need to rethink your builds and play style. T5's and T5U's are very doable if you have a clue what you are doing. Hell the Scimiter is still top dog DPS wise.
Uh there was a Free Kobali T6 ship last January and a Free Ferengi T6 ship this past summer. Plus a free T6 ship last winter. And there will be another 3 in the next year...
I am also in the middle of doing the same thing with a standard Prometheus Escort.
Honestly? The basic Prometheus is probably better than the C-Store Tier 5 variant. The C-Store Promethius, and the new T6 one are both very finicky ships in a way that the original free ship isn't, with some real options to TRIBBLE up your seating layout if you don't know exactly what you're doing.
Another top notch pick from the original lineup is the Sovereign. The free version is a very solid and well rounded cruiser that can be shockingly hard to kill in the right hands.
I have to agree with what everyone else is saying. Your Andorian escort (whichever version you have) is perfectly capable of completing end-game content, even without being upgraded. The problem is most likely your build. However, since this sub-forum isn't for build questions, I recommend that you go to the Federation feedback forum, and ask for build advice there.
