Tales of the War #23

After some unavoidable small talk Sela began to withdraw from the conversation. "Don't make eye contact," she recalled her father's advice with a twinge.

Check out the Tales of the War piece featuring Sela here.

wheee, more? How long will these awesome stories keep coming?

I don't get it. The war is over. The tales should be done too.

Sela's tale was definitely one to tell as a loose end - and she's still loose again. We have got to better plan our euphoric relief at being alive, apparently - though she's a bad penny that way. She'll turn up. I'm not sure what she has to accomplish at this point, her power base seems destroyed.

Well I do like that loose thread pointed out "How did the Iconians know she was Romulan??"

and they hinted that Sela will assassinate Kagan for that

Don't worry Sela, we'll shoot you and you won't need to worry anymore. Now SHUT UP!

"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

I feel like there needs to be an arc where Sela is hunted again, and this time captured and put on the trial she deserves

Of course it will apparently help if the Alliance decides to spill the beans about things that happened on Iconia seeing as according to Sela that would TRIBBLE her over big time.

"Sela had saved Earth and the Federation. She had saved that idiot Kagran and his Empire and that traitor D'Tan and his weak followers. And in the process she had doomed Romulus."

My god, this woman... Never her fault, always trying to take the credit.

Even when you metaphorically slam her head against the wall of reality, she refuses to comprehend it was her fault the Iconians had a grudge against everyone because she kept their entire civilization and history away from them and allowed T'Ket to finally have her way and corrupt them.

The throngs of people made it easy to bump into someone and lift some latinum here, some jewelry there; enough to supplement what she already had on her person, for passage off world. No one would ever suspect an apparent Vulcan of something as illogical as theft.

She's a thief too? Why am I not surprised? LOL
Her presence in the successful final battle would be an asset so long as some of the more damning details never came to light.

We should make sure they do >:)

So she had no guard and still blames herself for the decisions Iconians made and took to kill, maim, and destroy multitudes in blind arbitrary revenge? She's smarter than that. The prison break story was much more convincing than this story.

However, thank you for your work and effort.

Why was she not locked up immediately upon return? Is Starfleet Security that naive?

Wow... yeah, that's pretty useless. You'd think int he middle of Starfleet Academy, she'd have met at least some resistance. At least that makes it clear that the Republic is much-better equipped for. She actually had to work to escape. That was pathetic.

So now that I've got the in-character gripes out of the way... as always, great story-telling in these blogs! Definitely like how a few loose ends were tied up with this one.

the blogs sadly have better story telling then the actual in game missions.... And once again this is the sort of stuff that players should experience within the game. Not reading a blog about it.

For me this was the most interesting and well written tale of the war. Two thumbs up. I especially liked Sela contemplating putting on Tasha's uniform.

    Two things:

    1) I hope the head of security at SFA will get replaced soon.

    2) Which idiot allowed QWEN(!) of all people to not only enter the Sol System, but also gave him clearance to land on Earth?!? His ship should have been boarded the second he got spotted, or has Starfleet already forgotten that this guy had the AUDACITY to put a BOUNTY on one of their ADMIRALS?!?!? Not to mention his attempt to TRIBBLE the Federation, Klingon Empire AND the Romulan Republic over that Krenim artifact?

JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Praetor's Log, 4th day of 3rd month of Air, year 2 After Rediscovery:

I keep telling people not to trust Sela, not to believe in her words, not to expect her to reform, not to attribute noble motives to her acts. She is even now still absorbed in her narcissism, likely seeking some scapegoat upon whom to shift the responsibility for the destruction of Romulus. I should have been at least allowed to put her in irons and drag her back to ch'Mol'Rihan. But no, "She brought the Dominion to help," according to the gullible Hevammsu. I have prepared an order for our Counterintelligence operatives, since it is probable that Sela will soon find a way off of Terrha, if indeed that be not already accomplished. Much as I would prefer to look her in the eyes as I myself end her once and for all, the order goes out today: a hit on Sela is sanctioned by order of Praetor Ji'ana of the Tal'Diann.

    End Log.

Assuming they aren't already. It would be amusing if one of the other two passengers was a S31 operative.

Can we please, for the love of everything Trek, finally kill off this pathetic excuse for a TNG side-character and open a new page in STO?? Please, Cryptic!

I feel that Sela's continuous presence in STO is like an anchor holding us all back from exploring new story lines, new possibilities and new perspectives. I feel like this entire game until now has been more or less about Sela - Sela this, Sela that, Sela here, Sela there, whatever....it's getting boring and repetitive. Let's face it, Sela never was a good character in TNG, she was a side character intended to portray a pathetic faliure. Even more so here in STO so far. I realize that Denise Crosby may be very cooperative and easy to get to do VO for you guys, but there's no reason to punish the entire game by continuously anchoring the story line around a single character. (a pretty bad one if I may add) Please, just kill her off and be done with it.

Sela's was just a way to allow Denise to say uhh my bad, I want to come back! And I celebrate that heartily. May she plague us for another 5 years.

I never liked the feminist caricature that was Tasha Yar, and I never liked the insane failure that was Sela. STO has given me reason to find Tasha even more annoying than she was in TNG ("Temporal Ambassador") and many reasons to utterly despise Sela.

Well, took her long enough if that's the case. rolleyes.gif I don't mind having her around, but they can make and give her a new character to exclusively do VO for, for that purpose. Having Sela always lingering around like a bad smell even though it's obviously high time to be done with the character is not doing the storyline, the players of this game or Denise any good. I mean look at the complete mockery they've made out of 2 factions just to linger this pathetic character around - look at this "escape". lol :D If it's this easy for one of the galaxy's most notorioius and wanted criminals to dance around the leadership of Starfleet, the Federation, the KDF and the Republic Fleet on Earth of all places and just walk away afterwards, then the Federation is falling apart and has bigger problems than Klingons, Iconians or the MU Terran Empre.

It was a bit of a mess in the writing to have her end up down at the Academy at the end. Probably better to have her escape with her Dominion pals. This was an effort to clean it all up.

As far as Tasha goes, I'm not so sure she was so much of a stereotype. Remember that she is an abuse survivor. And her relationship with Data or at least the impression she made on him made her worth it for that alone.

I said "caricature," not "stereotype," and the "abuse survivor" aspect was part of the caricature.

Who's the head of Starfleet security here? Donald Trump?

    Lt. Obama obviously.

Seriously, Sela does NOT get to play the karma houdini anymore! One of my biggest gripes about the end of Midnight was my Romulan admiral not calling down a full security team armed with pulsewaves to surround her as soon as he finished talking to her on Earth and hearing that "Wow, I've been a bad person all along" tripe.

However she apparently got over that real quick according to the new tales and she's right back to "I'm the victim here!"
