TOS Klingon uniform, please

alex284alex284 Member Posts: 366 Arc User
Since Cryptic is updating the Klingons, now would be a good time to put in a request for a TOS Klingon uniform. Basically, Romulans get their uniform from TOS (awesome!) and the Federation does too (yay!), and since TOS had far better sci-fi fashion sense than any of the other series, it would be neat to get the Klingons' uniform.

Now, there is a "classic tunic" costume set, which is a good start, but you can't really make a TOS Klingon uniform from it. Because:

-We can't use the right color for the tunic - it's supposed to be a brighter gold than we can access KDF-side
-None of the sashes look anything like Kang or Kor's sashes (and they're backwards for TOS Klingons, too)
-None of the pants look like the baggy, knee-high pants Klingons wore in TOS with that shimmering gold/black color combo. TOS really liked its baggy, knee-high pants, and the Feds and the Roms get them, so I know they're possible, even if the Klingon's baggy, shimmering, knee-high pants are the grooviest pants of them all.
-None of the boots look like the boots on the show.
-We can't get a true black for the shirt or the boots, and they were pretty much black in the show.
-We can't use badges like Koloth or Kang had.
-Most of all, the female version is nothing like this insanity.

I didn't mean that the classic tunic uniform should only be worn while towing garbage, I meant that it should be towed away *as* garbage! HAHAHAHAHA- *Scotty punches me in the face*

Anyway, I'd totally plunk down 550 zen for this. My rom main runs around looking like the commander Mark Lenard played, my fed main wears Kirk's tunic, and it'd be cool to get a uniform like Kor's for my kdf main.

Well... there is no female version in game. Its just the same version as the males wear so... yes. It looks nothing like that. Although I think we now have access to the TOS and Mirror TOS boots KDF side so we can at least come close to the boots worn by female Klingons.

    From another thread.
    1. We don't have the gold pins on the collar.
    2. The top is one piece, the wrong material, missing the horizontal stripes, doesn't have a purple option, the neckline on the vest doesn't go down far enough, and the shoulder straps on the vest are rounded not squared
    3. Missing the coloured pins Kang's crew had
    4. Missing the trousers (same material as the TOS Romulans BTW)
    5. Missing boots that go up that high.
    6. Missing the TAS style lower cut boots
    7. The sash is not available any more, and goes over the wrong shoulder anyway.
    8. Missing both female options (they are both different and end in shorts not a dress).
    9. Missing the female boots (they use the same boots as Starfleet females).
    10. Missing the skirt from TAS.
    11. Missing ridgeless foreheads
    12. Missing a few beard styles (including the chinstrap one).
    13. Missing the agoniser some of Kang's crew had on their belts
    14. The colour options on the belt doesn't allow you to match the on-screen belts (gold dots on a silver background, the game gives you gold dots on a gold background with a silver background)

Oh, yes please! Would love to see the addition of the pants, the female TOS uniforms (beyond the TOS boots), the option for smooth forehead Klingons, and what else is needed for a proper TOS look to come out of the Klingon update.

I'd be happy to drop some Zen for any of these things.

That is a nice list, although I don't really care if we get the TAS uniform (an expanded palette would be nice for other reasons).

It's good that they pointed out the material and stripes. I was trying to think of how the top was wrong, but I just couldn't think of why.

Ridgeless foreheads, though? I'm not sure if there would be a klingon with the augment virus in 2415, but then someone could just make an alien like that so why not.

The female version of this would be worth the 550 zen alone. That's a crazy outfit, very TOS but even cooler because of how female klingons were developed as characters on the later series.

Other than the lack of a belt I actually prefer the TAS uniform, especially the Female version (more so than the TOS Female uniform), it has nicer cut boots and I like the fact that the tops are the same colour as the blood from TUC.

I think TOS uniforms should be higher priority as TAS canonicity is a little sketchy. But that opinion may be slightly biased by my own preferences.

Also bear in mind that their blood was blood red everywhere else it shows up and was supposed to be in TUC except the censors through a fit.

Well, with the exception of the boots and chest pips (and the skirt) there's little difference between the two, working on them both as a bundle would be best.

The blood thing, I assume it was an agent in the phasers they were shot with (similar to the Jem'Hdar rifles carrying anticoagulants).

While the TOS and TAS male uniforms only differ by a color palette the female uniforms are different. The TAS female is just the male with a skirt, but the TOS version has a totally different top with big net sections on the chest and arms and has shorts instead of a skirt. (See the link in the OP).

Still been wanting to see both of these in game since launch.

That is countered by the part where Scotty shoots the "Klingon" sniper with a phaser at Kitomer, and the sniper's blood is red and not pink. Granted the "Klingon" was really a human, but still, the fact remains that there was no difference in human blood with a Phaser involved.

I think its mostly the fact that Gorkon was to have a hole in his chest, and that several Klingons were to get shot and have visable injuries caused by said shots, that was the issue.

Gravity wouldn't have an effect on color of blood. And as far as I know the only real damage to Kronos 1 was to the Artificial Gravity, which was fixed shortly after the boarding action.

Again referencing the part where Scotty shot the sniper, one of the Klingons actually examined the pooling blood on the ground and specifically said that it was not Klingon blood without even pulling out a tricorder. All he did was dip his fingers into it and look at the blood.

Out of the TOS crew movies, ST6 was probably the bloodiest because of the assault on Kronos 1 and the shot sniper.

Maybe Human blood feels different to Klingon blood or it was a different smell?

Another thought, was Klingon blood seen in any of the previous films? Maybe it was a side-effect of the transition back to ridged foreheads? Gene-therapy or something. Because in terms of ridges, the TMP Klingons have clearly gone overboard and Chang and Gorkons daughter seem to be very faintly ridged, maybe they're going slower.

I wholeheartedly support this!!! :) This really does need to happen because it's from TOS - the show that launched Star Trek into our lives and because I know that many people want this not only because it's TOS, but because the very limited selection of KDF costumes in the C-Store has left many of us KDF players wanting more.
Like the OP said for himself, I would totally spend Zen for KDF costume options like the ones he/she suggested here, heck I already have the only one KDF costume that exists in the C-Store since ages ago.

Found something from Memory Alpha on the subject.
Oxygenated Klingon blood usually appeared red in a class M atmosphere. However, in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Klingon blood appears pink/violet. In the scenes where free-floating Klingon blood droplets are shown in zero gravity, though, the blood is lit red, in red alert conditions. The film, as originally written, instead included green Klingon blood, though this was changed due to Vulcan blood commonly being said to be green. (audio commentary, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (Special Edition) DVD) The Klingon blood was colored lavender specifically for ratings and plot purposes. (citation needed • edit) In essence, the purple blood was intended to show up as clearly alien. (Star Trek Monthly issue 110, p. 62) Steven-Charles Jaffe commented, "ILM did a wonderful job with the floating CGI blood." (Cinefantastique, Vol. 22, No. 5, p. 43) It is possible that Klingon blood is "canonically" pink in color, because of what Colonel Worf says in The Undiscovered Country regarding the difference in Klingon blood compared to Human blood (after Colonel West, disguised as a Klingon, is shot down). On the other hand, with the sole exception of Star Trek VI, Klingon blood has always been red in every instance that it has been shown, including in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Star Trek Generations, and multiple episodes of all of the Star Trek television series. By way of explanation, Larry Nemecek posited, "Perhaps, in hindsight, the blood globs we saw in ST:VI were interacting in an odd and visible way amid toxins in the malfunctioning atmospheric system of Gorkon's heavily damaged ship!" (Star Trek Monthly issue 110, p. 62)

The blood is one of those instances where looking for phony in-universe explanations is unstatisfactory when we know it was made to score lower ratings, as red blood everywhere would have been too violent in a family friendly movie (I guess Star Trek qualifies as family friendly).

It'd be nice if the blue-ray had edited it to red. Modern audiences are less pedantic about that sort of thing nowadays. Even in red I still can't see the film getting above a PG now.

I can't help but feel we've gone off from the original topic of TOS uniforms.

I can't help but feel we've gone off from the original topic of TOS uniforms.

There's not a lot you can say about them is there?

    "Do we want them?"

    "Yes."

You can't really go much further than that.

I don't play my Klingon toon very often, but even I would go out of my way to buy authentic TOS Klingon outfits.

I can say that I'd like to see TOS Gorn and Orion clothes in the game too!!!

See there are more things to say... and I'd say it counts as those are part of the Klingon faction.

There are a gazillion and one things missing from the Klingons: TV accurate Gorn (the ingame ones don't look like the TOS or ENT versions), every single Klingon uniform from the shows, TAS Orion costumes, Gorn consumes, Nausicanns that look like the DS9 or ENT versions and not like Predator, the D5, D6, the two ENT BoP, K'Vort and an accurate shuttle, TOS / TAS Gorn and Orion ships, Klingon hairstyles and ridges, ridge-less Klingons (we have ridge-less Romulans), almost every single Klingon weapon (knife or gun) from the shows and films, a whole bunch of NPC assets used on the ingame KDF that we can't use. That's not even getting to the game things that the KDF are missing compared to the other two factions.

I'd just chime in & say in regards to female version of the existing Klingon TOS uniform - As long as the canon version wouldn't replace the current one and would be added as an option, that's great, but if it'd replace the uniform we currently have...please no.

Well the Fed TOS uniform has the male version available for both males and females, however the Romulan does not.

Actually... I think Mk I disruptor bolt pistols and autorifles look like the canon models, and we also have the TOS Klingon pistol from Night of the Comet. And I think the closest we have to a canon Klingon shuttle is the... Kivra? It looks pretty much like the canon model, small and boxy. Just doesn't have the "Barred window" look.

I forgot about the TOS disruptor. But the lower ranked pistol and rifle do indeed resemble the common weapons, however there are several other canon disruptor styles not ingame.

Yeah. TOS had some crazy, wonderful style. Now I can't help but picture my bridge crew all running around with Yeoman Rand's beehive hairdo.
