Thanks to the recent Crystalline Cataclysm event I was able to finally get around to maxing out all reputations on all 15 characters.
P.S. We are getting a new mirror universe reputation next month when season 11 launches.
Edit: And people seem happy with the weekly featured episode reward box.
I call shenanigans on the OP.
I think the OP is actually referring to the fact that with each Rep, we end up getting 8 new passives from them, but we only have a max of 5 reputation trait slots for space and ground in which we can use passives. As it stands now, we have 28 space and 28 ground passives that can be chosen, with the number going up to 32 & 32 when the next rep comes out. He's basically rehashing the point that people made a year or so ago when we went through the trait revamp.
OP, there was a time that we were able to have 1 passive power from each tier of the reps so that we only got to use about half of the powers, and if we wanted to change, we had to buy a respec token. Now we can choose whatever traits whenever we're in a social zone.
On the subject of the weekly episode reward box, he's not talking about the Spec point being rewarded. I think he's talking about the fact that there's been a few episodes that have given away a space set, but 1 week at a time and he's not really fond of having to replay a mission he feels is subpar each week just to get the next piece in the set. He'd rather have the 1 piece per episode mission we had back in the 2800 series.
Still had to do Operation Gamma (brrrr) twice to get two pieces of the Space Set.

There really is...ALOT ...of stuff in game atm.
I thought it was a great way to equip my Alts with "Decent" gear... but even they have too many sets to know what to do with now...
Jem set
Breen Set
Solanea set
Sol set
Aegis set
There is not even a use anymore for the Efficent Engines/Reman Reward Shield MK XI, Numari Shield, and other stand alone items of the like.
Honestly I do think the amount of stuff coming out is excessive.
Ships, traits, boff abilities included !
I happen to like the weekly reward of a spec point. Yes, the latest episode drags a bit longer because of the forced dialogue waiting and sometimes buggy section with the world heart (had to beam out and in because of dialogue not in order), but it makes it easy for me to earn a spec point in 15 minutes versus a 2 1/2 hour XP grind fest which bores me to death.
Yup...nothing more fun than running something a hundred times and not getting what you want!
Depending on how you get your marks for the rep systems, you're still running the same content hundreds of times.
Yes but the difference is that you have a means of tracking how long it'll take you to earn it rather than random chance.
Imagine if you went to work every day but your boss rolled a die to see if you got paid for that days work or not, how long would you hold out for a payout?
The rep system is by far the best endgame reward system in any of the cryptic games. No gamble. No RNG. you work for it, you get it.
If we get more endgame rewards, MORE rep please.
I completely agree. the best fact -> no gamble, no gamble . and at tier5 a gound amount of dil, and each hour, you can earn also dil.
i agree for the fe rewards, i think that we have enough space set. "Midnight" with a ship as reward like the mission for the obelisk carrier would have been better. the iconian episode would have had an awesome ending
RNG is good because it keeps people playing the content, and gives them solid goals to shoot for.
x chance of having something good, it is not a solid goal. a solid goal is : i have decided to create a weapon, I have the mats, I build the weapon, I have the weapon that i wanted. lottery is not a solid goal, just a waste of time, ressources, and faith in this game.
But at least you get what you want as you don't have to worry about a specific item to drop, but rather "buy" what you want with the rep marks.
Yes, I know how the rep systems work, thanks. I was referring to the fact that you still need to run the same content repeatedly, which doesn't make it any more or less boring than having to rely on RNG for drops.
well personally i prefer to do the same stfs again and again, than waiting that the R(eplay)&G(amble) be friendly with me. almost 2 weeks, that i try to craft a tetryon dbb crtdx2 dmg (too expensive in the exchange 1mil ec, added to the 90% chance to be fu..ed up during the upgrade process)

As do I. However, running the same content repeatedly over and over and over again gets stale very quickly. Just a personal preference.
Which is why I never started grinding STFs in the first place.

Although you have more choice which same content you're running "over and over again", which may include one you like. Especially with the event "workaround" @lindaleff mentioned - I happen to enjoy the races there, too.
As for the OP: I saw nobody mention consoles... we have way too many consoles, I am usually sitting with 148 consoles I want to equip on my little ship which does not have 148 console slots. And that's not even counting "basic" ones like vulnerability locators, I could probably fill my ships with the many uni consoles.
So yeah, we don't have enough room to use nor even try everything. Every ship, every ability, every item. But fun fact: you don't need every item. Your ship will be competitive with almost any setup (and if you're into min-maxing, the variation doesn't help neither), you do not have to get the Sol set if you don't like the episode or think it's not worthy of your build. And I prefer too many options to too few. Like I will never see every good movie made. But if instead it was "now I've seen them all", that would be really annoying. But you gotta realize that you need to stop the hunt to catch 'em all in this game. You can't, so just choose what you're hunting.
The only thing I can understand is that new players are overwhelmed by a lot of the options they see on forums, on reddit, on youtube, on the wiki. And that is a problem. At the same time, they will not encounter most of this stuff in game until they are a little experienced. There will be the Reman prototype shield here, the Fed Phaser type 2 there, and it will feel special, but all the rep stuff or lockbox stuff doesn't really feature at that point IMO.
My mother was an epohh and my father smelled of tulaberries
so lets tal kweekly rewards on FEs
the missions arent really that grat that u want to paly em that often
why the hell do we need 4 new space sets in 4 new missions?
we get an overflow with free space sets
why dont give away ONE space set in 4 pieces over 4 FEs
too much stuff I say
what do you think?
cool more sets?
Um, you don't have to get the sets. I don't. Lots of people don't.
Unless Cryptic has been upping the ante with every FE and releasing a better set with each one (it really hasn't), then I don't see the point. Just don't get them if you don't want them.
I have not changed my sets since before the Reputation system came along. I still use the old Honour Guard sets, and I have no plans to ever change. For that matter, I have plans to even upgrade that set.
The only exception to that is the Romulan Navy set, which I the only reason decided to get it was because it is a mission reward.
As for special consoles, I only use Fleet consoles. I do not have any Reputation consoles, nor I plan to ever get any.
What we need are MORE Reputation systems. But also more Trait slots as well, outside of what can be bought from a T3 Research Lab. Tie them behind mission chains if necessary (Cryptic proved this is possible with the Delta Recruit mission/reward tracker), but let us get an additional Starship, Reputation Active, Reputation Ground Passive, and Reputation Space Passive Trait slot.
Imagine if you went to work every day but your boss rolled a die to see if you got paid for that days work or not, how long would you hold out for a payout?
This is what I was thinking about last night exactly.
Inaccurate analogy tbh.
The old pre-rep system "always" rewarded you, and anyone could easily get full sets.
The only thing that was a pure RNG grind was the more prestigious Mk XI and ultra rare Mk XII versions of the equipment set.
It was a fair compromise, but sadly complainers with entitlement issues ruined it all.
So like someone else suggested, I'm all for having both Reputation and RNG systems side by side, but unfortunately the "entitled" crowd would never go along with it.

Before the Reputation system came along, I had the entire Honour Guard sets (both ground AND space) in only a few days after reaching 50. The only secret was having a great team, and not using the public queue.

I remember that system.... the only guarantee was getting EDC.
A more accurate analogy would be a die roll to see if you get paid full time or half time after you work full-time.
Really the Cryptic version of Reputation is a double-edged sword. It's obviously designed to keep us busy with grinding as they work on more grind systems.
But at the same time, it's also killed the queues. Because once people got their Reputation sets, there is no real desire to play the queues. And that's one factor why the queues are dead. And with Reputations giving most of the best gear in the game, there is no desire to play queues for loot since it's all garbage.
Whoever's making these decisions, really doesn't get MMOs.
I don't generally mind the grindyness of the current rep system, I mind the time gating more than anything. I'm sitting on close to 2,000 iconian marks right now, but I can't finish the T5 rep until a virtual timer lets me. Not because I lack the resources, or because I haven't done enough missions, but because my progression is limited by an artificial daily timer.
