And this post right here wins the argument. Why is this thread even around?

Because in STO, people argue to argue, and argue about arguing.

so lets tal kweekly rewards on FEs
the missions arent really that grat that u want to paly em that often
why the hell do we need 4 new space sets in 4 new missions?

we get an overflow with free space sets

why dont give away ONE space set in 4 pieces over 4 FEs

    too much stuff I say

    what do you think?
    cool more sets?

Sooo.. Here's the thing. You're not getting a set from a FE. You get either a spec point or upgrade thing from the FE. The set comes from a storyline mission that just happens to get the FE treatment for a few weeks. Solanae arc has a set you have to get from a mission. Delta arc has a set. There's also the breen, jem'hadar and obisek sets from earlier story arcs. Iconian arc has 2 sets which, given it's the finale, sort of seems fitting. So I really don't understand what you're complaining about.

Since the rep system was reformed I like it, I just think it could use for fluff.

I did Omega Rep without doing a single STF, thanks to that change, just mostly Borg Fleet Alerts.

I'm looking forward to the Mirror Universe Rep, it sounds like it will be fun.

I've got a whole set of views on this but, ultimately, here's my stance:

Gear with power progression should be obtainable reliably, for sale, whether this is through queued content currencies, dilithium, fleet progress, or crafting (which should be manipulated by a developer to keep the price in a planned selling price range).

Now, RNG belongs in MMOs as well and we could use more RNG. For cosmetics. RNG is a great motivator but shouldn't be there for power. There should be titles, costume pieces, starship hull patterns, pet recolors, etc. that drop randomly and require a mix of luck and spending time in certain places.

For example, maybe Infected Advanced has a chance (very rare) for you to save an assimilated puppy and you get a Liberated Borg Beagle Companion, Rebecca Simmons' Dog. See? Flavor. An emotional attachment to a zone. (Saving a dog is something that gives people the feels.)

You could have the various bosses drop cosmetic loot grab bags based on the boss. Limit this by and large to boss fights. Have "rare spawn" or summonable bosses who sometimes (but not always) turn up in mission replays who drop thematic items.

Want to encourage some team play? Have a summonable optional boss for each profession in certain places. A boss with a cosmetic loot table that only appears when a Sci is on the team, for example.

As great a concept it is, sadly the "entitled" portion of the STO playerbase will never stand for it.
Back in the day before reputation they whined like crazy, not because they couldn't get the best gear, but because they couldn't get those epic Elite costume unlocks and felt entitled to them.

Otherwise I love chasing down rare trophies in games like LOTRO.

Not against in principle, but we have way to many now. Esp queues. Should be a one in one out principle or try new ways of introducing content.

Uh.... praying that the RNG will take pity on you isn't fun. And that's what the old tech drops came down to.

Oh man, reading this thread brought back memories back from S5 and S6. Back when the EGSTFs were actually considered hard. Unless you were an engi. With mortars. Lots and lots of mortars... XD.

But back on topic. I know for a fact I wasn't the only one who went through IGE HUNDREDS of times trying to get that damn Proto Shield Tech (yes, I remember what that stupid thing was called). KGE and CGE got em done in less than a dozen runs. But no. IGE. Simmons. OPTIONAL!!! Hundreds. Of times. *shudders*

But now, with new toons, I don't even bother with the MACO set to begin with. Elite Fleet Polly armor beats the armor out. Add on the TR-116 (which beats out the MACO BR) and the Romulan Navy Shield (better than the MACO shield), and you've already COMPLETELY outclassed the MACO set with things that are cheaper (and easier) to get (with the possible exception of the TR, that thing can be quite expensive).

For the KHG set? Ico Ground Set. Just as expensive, but a bit better in that it shores up some of the weaknesses of the KHG set (MY OPINION ONLY!! DO NOT TAKE AS FACT).

I could go on for a bit, but I don't really have the time or attention span to do so. But basically what I was trying to illustrate is that the new rep system makes the old way of getting those "elite" items look silly. Now, you just need to run some rep specific mission a dozen times or so (depending on if you run it once a day and get the daily bonus every time, also depends on if it rewards an elite item (ie, BNP, APC, IDC, etc)), and then dump in some dil and exp and marks. I will grant you the 32500 dil cost of the space items is quite a pill to swallow (since the old space sets were TRIBBLE easy to get and more or less free, at least as dil went), but honestly, I'd take the 500 marks, 9k dil, and however much EXP for the ground sets as opposed to running the same. Bloody. Mission. Hundreds. Of times. Hoping. For. A proto. Tech. Drop. :|

Now OP, I can see where you're coming from. The rep systems are just making this game more and more of a grind, and the FEs can be... dull and not necessarily well thought out/designed (honestly Midnight was more disappointing than anything. Whole thing felt rushed). However they added in the sponsorship tokens. Whoever thought that up at Cryptic should get a cookie. A whole box of cookies. Makes things go by so much faster. But you still need to grind it out with a character first. One month, One week, 3 days (on average). A pain, but it can be worth it.

But I think I agree with some others here when I say this. If you don't like it, just don't do it. Let others enjoy the grind and rewards, just do your own thing. You don't need to do the rep system if you don't want to.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once. B)
