Orly? source? because the way I remember it there weren't very many and they sold as well as bridge packs....
I've been around since beta. Back around launch they briefly had purchasable ship costumes for some of the end game ships at the time. These are, of course, now free with the ships they were part of, I believe.
I've been around since season 3... I actually bought the Maelstrom skin when it was a C-store purchase. It later became the skin you unlocked by getting a fleet variant.
C-store skins went away when they added fleet ships to the game.
You're both right. Costumes that came with the original launch remained free, but the purchased costumes became Fleet Skins. Like the Imperial skin was unlocked if you purchased the Fleet Sovereign.
Orly? source? because the way I remember it there weren't very many and they sold as well as bridge packs....
the real problem was that each costume was $15. A little excessive for a "micro" transaction on a sub game. Of course, every company wants to have their sparklepony wowlike sales so there you go.
Well, I hope that all the complains about the BO layout is somethnig that Cryptic hears and wil cause them to take a look at the Command Powers again to see if some could use a buff. And add another tactical power to the game.
But they might just hear the lesson that people want more power creep with their ships.

How are people even thinking that the MVAE (with MVA console) is worse than a Pilot Escort!? In MVA mode you have 3 Escorts. That's the current module with all your present consoles and such, plus 2 'stock' Escorts. Now, that to me equals more DPS that 1 Pilot Escort. Now can you see the value of this ship??
I've had the MVAE for a few years now, and it still gets used, especially with the Bio-Phaser set and Quad Cannons, plus with it's LT Cmdr Sci seat, makes for a formidable opponent. With the trait for the new version, it has gained even more life!
People must also remember when it comes to weapon slots....I've seen people say it should be 5 fore/3 aft....this is an Escort, not a Battleship or Dreadnaught!!
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
But they might just hear the lesson that people want more power creep with their ships.
They probably will - but you know what? That'll serve us right.
From what I've been reading of the numerous negative comments pertaining to the Hestia, the main beef seems to be that the BOFF/console layout will hamper it's DPS potential - a problem for the plethora of DPS obsessed Tactical Captains and their BFAW builds.
I really don't like the road that we appear to be headed down - too much emphasis on DPS and too many, basically, saying that a ship isn't good unless it has a BOFF layout that benefits tactical captains and fits a particuar build/playstyle.
You want new Science ships? At this rate, kiss that dream goodbye; it does seem like a precedent has been set, evidenced by the fact that the only new science ship we've had recently was the Annorax - the most DPS-centric 'science' ship this game has ever seen.
Quite possible.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
T6 doesn't have "way better stats" over the T5-U it's based upon. Actually it has the very same stats with a couple exceptions: 1) One more Boff ability (13th for most ships); 2) Some specialization seat among Boff slots; 3) Fifth mastery Tier unlocking a ship trait.
And this is way better, actually. A single BOFF power is already nice to have, but the specializations change everything - in a "traditional" Tier 5 ship without specializations, you quickly run into the problem of shared and global cooldowns. You do not have that with specialization powers. And with all the new traits and DOFFs that lower cooldown timers, you don't need to double up on any powers anymore.
The Tier 5 Defiant has approximaltely 3-4 tactical BO powers too many in the Tier 6 world. Giving it a Pilot or Intel seat will be a vast improvement. The step is no less, but probably even more, than the step from Tier 4 to Tier 5.
You'll probably look at me funny, but with cloaking ability and (a potential T6 ship trait that could reduce the radius your starship is detected even when you don't use the cloaking device, let alone use a ship that can't fit a cloaking console, with a boost to critical when taking enemies 'unaware'...), I'd say Intel would be the way to go for a T6 Defiant.
And what if it has the ability to 'extend' the cloaking ability to nearby ally ships, like what the House of Pegh ship had done?

The cloaking device however was never an integral part of the design. I think Pilot makes a bit more sense - the ship was designed to fight Borg. Not for Recon missions, and not to lead a battle group.
The ship was as small and packed with as much firepower as they could fit, and with overpowered engines - which suggests it was meant to be manoeuvrable and deliver damage with precision, while evading enemy fire.

I wouldn't go generalizing like that. As a tac captain, I don't much care about DPS, so much as a balance between damage and survivability. The tac ensign slot would serve better as a universal. I'd have probably thrown polarize hull in there. As for it being yet another command ship, boring. I already have the T6 veteran ship (which has command), the 3 fed command cruisers and the Kobali cruiser. I'd have liked to have tried intel or pilot, especially since this is an escort we're talking about. Command seating just doesn't seem like the right fit, imo.
As for sci ships, I don't really consider lockbox or lottery ships, like the Annorax, as viable options. It's not something people can obtain easily like one can a C-store ship. Whether or not we see some pop up on the C-store in the future seems doubtful and even then, with Cryptic's track record of building some rather awful ships of late, I don't expect much from them.
Out of curiosity, why does the Fleet T6 version not come with either the Hestia costume or the Plasma Expulsers console?
Because that's how Fleet ships work. Fleet ships never come with special consoles, the one exception might be the Veteran destroyer. And Fleet ships also don't come with C-Store unlocked skins. Some Fleet ships however come with special Fleet costumes that were long ago purchasable separately in the C-store. This escort is among them and gets the Hephaestus skin (like the Fleet T5 Advanced escort).
Just bought the T6 Hestia - love it.
Do I have to buy ANOTHER ship to get saucer separation? I hope not. Please advise.
If by saucer separation you mean the ability to separate the Hestia in three modules, yes. You need the Multi vector advanced console from the Tier 5 C-Store version.
It has been noted by several players the blog post should have mentioned this clearly.
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class. Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider. Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.
Thanks toiva - thats a BIG disappointment and I won't be buying it.
The writing was NOT clear at all. I've noticed the bad writing quite a bit, I imagined it written by someone with English as a second language, the words are there but the meaning isn't clear. They build excitement only to disappoint the people who support them. They HAD to know that this is a question player would ask AFTER they bought the ship because BEFORE they bought a T6 for 2500-3000 Zen they would expect to have all the bells an whistles, is that asking too much?
So to get the the best advanced escort with multi vector and fleet benefits, means you have to buy three ships?
The tier 5 advanced for the multi vector module
The tier 6 one for the plasma console
The fleet tier 6 for the fleet stuff
Seems a lot of Zen required to get the whole package and have everything needed for everything to work... Also seems a shame to work up to the fleet one then realise you need another two ships for all the consoles.
For the future I think I'll wait and see what pitfalls await early adopters instead of being the example. It's sad but this kind of discussion will seemingly need to be done for all new purchases. Just to make sure what we're BUYING!
I imagine a lot of people are going to be extremely pissed when they realise that MVAM does NOT come with this Tier 6 version but requires the Tier 5 one.
Are the console and trait worth it? I'm definitely getting one but I'm considering skipping the base C-Store version since I already have the MVAM console.
Yeah "Advanced Escort Weaponry" is the bonus but I can't see the stats. The only issue I really have with my vectors is in STF after cleaning up borg craft and transformers... they automatically lock on to the Gateway (which until both transformers are down is obviously indestructable, and start taking pot shots at it... which never ends well for them. I wonder if perhaps my shield and survivability stats are somehow affecting them in a way that makes them more durable than for others?
They really should have made this plasma flare a 'built in' weapon. Using a console slot for both the plasma flare and for the mvae modules makes things very difficult.
I'm sure the numbers for these are on the ingame tooltip for the consoles, but I'm at work and can't access that at the moment.
FYI the numbers are: 10% all energy damage, and 2.5% crit chance. Playing around with it in Sol space, it seemed like it was about 50% as strong a bonus as a Mk 14 Spire tac console, so not a bad bonus.
Also, the trait is 10% all damage bonus to anything you are targeting (so, NOT things you are hitting with AOEs, just your direct target) plus an additional 10% all damage per ally (not hangar pet) also targeting your target, up to a max of 50%. So, also pretty good, even solo, but very strong with a coordinated team.
Keep in mind Fleet versions don't come with ship traits.
And the +10% all energy damage bonus as a 2-set bonus is negligible (tac consoles get upward of 30% depending on Fleet/non-Fleet). However the 2.5% CrtH is nice.

If you already own the C store Hestia what is the cost in ship modules for the Fleet version.
As has already been said, it costs one module since you get a discount for owning the C-store version.
And I, for one, recommend it - the extra hull and tactical console slot are defnitely worth it on an escort.
Don't forget the 10% additional shields.

Well, yeah. Against the Borg, you really can't rely on shields (well, not on the typical build; I suppose a very specialised build could keep shields up).

Maybe it should grants a bit of a damage vulnerability (e.g. resistance penalty) to enemies, so it is more of a force multiplier?
