It will defenitely not satisfy me, because I think the Defiant is one of the ugliest ships in the whole
galaxy. Even if the T6 Valiant turned out to be an uber-escort (even though I highly doubt that) and
someone would give it to me for free, I still won't fly it if it looks remotely like the Defiant.
Now the Hestia has a ensign uni slot I'm curious. Can I not just add a command hybrid officer in that slot? I mean universal means universal doesn't it? Why does it restrict the slot to the three main boff careers? I can work around it... all it means I'll have to put an engi in the universal and put two command powers on the hybrid's slot. But it seems like needless faffing about to me.
And yes I do know what I'm doing... I'm an engineer captain whose ship is quite well buffed with hull helping stuff.
At the moment I have a spare high yield torp in the tac universal and my lt comm engineer has EPTS 1 in the ensign slot and dem2 in the lt comm slot. I propose using an ensign command and a lt comm command power in my build.
So my question remains. Can I not just pop the command officer in the uni slot?

Up until now, universal Boff slots simply mean they can equip either main Boff career. It has nothing to do with specializations.
That doesn't preclude some ships (Kurak comes to mind, or the JHSS) to have a universal/'some spec' Boff slot where any main career Boff can be slotted and on top of that use the specified specialization.
The answer to your final question is yes, you can slot any Boff in the Universal slot, BUT (s)he won't be able to use any SPEC abilities.
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class. Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider. Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

Thanks. I got round it by pulling in another engineer boff to act as my universal and giving them EPTS1 ... and then taking away the same ability and DEM2 from the engineer/command boff. I've now equipped her with concentrate firepower and overwhelm emitters (the latter seems to be a sensible choice as it provides offensive and defensive benefits that make up for any engineer abilities lost... and also provides away to restore shields to the other MVAM segments if they are on the same target as you). I'm not sure about concentrate firepower. Theoretically I shouldn't be benefiting from it because I use the crystalline torpedo... but some sources state that the torpedo does benefit from the skilll, even though it's damage is AP based.

Fed. pilot ships maybe? Same size and approx. crew complement.

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!
