If there are two things I know for certain that will NOT result from this, it is:

1.) No future proofing/litigation/long term fixes will occur

2.) No compensation of any kind will occur

So everyone should just keep those in mind. The servers will come back up eventually but this WILL happen again, it's just an inevitability.

What kind of 'compensation' do you demand?

I'm not demanding anything, others are. I'm just tired of seeing all the demands every time something like this happens.
are u demanding they stop? ^^

I think Q is to blame. It is one of his antics.

The servers will be "restored" but upon logging in we will be playing Candy Crush Saga with no way to quit.

Another of his weird tests for humanity.

As others have noted.. This is NOT a DDoS .. UNLESS it is a straight up DDoS on Cryptic's DNS server its self.. The game servers are actually still online...

However, I have found a solution.. Which was also mentioned earlier in this thread... A good HOSTS file trick.. I did some searching and found the required IP addresses and domain addresses needed for the launcher to proceed and connect to the required servers..

NOW you would be wise to just wait for Cryptic to sort this out.. AND if you do this make sure to undo it later in case Cryptic changes the IP addresses later on.. However, here is the IP/Domain pairs you need for your HOSTS file...

    HOSTS data here....

Thanks. I was going to go to the trouble, but you saved me the time.

Okay, here's my theory of what happened ...

In a fit of desperate boredom, the galaxy's most ambitious tribble, Tyrone the Terrible, chose to make it his life's work to end the tyranny of all tribbles everywhere at the hands of the bloodthirsty klingons by gathering all of his tribble kindred onto a starship and find a new and unexplored world among the stars. Getting wind of Tyrone the Terrible's audacious plan, the Klingon High Command dispatched one of their fastest vessels to chase down the ambitious tribble and thwart his plan. It was a climactic battle between tribble and klingon!! In a brilliant but desperate maneuver, Tyrone the Terrible did an uncalculated slingshot maneuver around the nearby sun that sent his ship hurdling into the past where he miraculously arrives in orbit around Earth on the 19th of September, 2015. However, all is not as serene as it seems. The starship was heavily damaged in the assault, and Tyrone the Terrible is forced to make a desperate move. He abandons ship just seconds before the warp core explodes. The resulting shockwave hits Tyrone the Terrible's escape pod and he plummets into the very building that houses the servers for Star Trek Online, thus causing the mayhem we endure now.

mind you, it's just a theory.

    :p

Dude (or Dudette as the case may require)! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!! As far as I'm concerned, you just won this thread. *tips hat*

Just wanted to add that we, too, are having trouble logging in. Failure to launch game client. We have each restarted our comps after clearing cache and then restarted the modem. We have tried through ARC and without ARC. We are in San Antonio, Texas, yet a guild mate in Houston, Texas is on and he has no problems. I am not sure if this helps at all. I will keep checking back.

The game server was probably never down - but at least one of their DNS servers is back up, so we're back in business! :)

glad things are being noticed. It's a shame some are trying to egg this neverwintergod person on as shown here https://twitter.com/Nabreeki/status/644681449963044865 all that does is reward troublemakers with attention

Sadly majority of the internets are not smart enough to understand that.

Yes... and of course, this happens to occur during one of the few times I would have been able to play this weekend.

You should not have relayed your playing times to the offender. :pensive:
But truth be told, the lag takes the fun out of playing at the moment. Good thing i had close to two weeks worth of dilithium to be refined. Only "need" a couple of minutes each day.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
