It's weird kind of lag I had prior to the server going down. It was like my character was stuck in mid-sprint, sliding around as if he were on ice. Oddly enough, no rubber banding.
Sounds cool. Wish I had seen that. :)

Yup, it was failing until I did some digging and found that they had changed the IP back in May.

And unfortunately there are evil people out there doing their best to make sure these things fail just because they can. If I had to vote... I would say Ultima Online was the smoothest running I ever played... But it was pretty basic to what some MMOs put out now in the way of gameplay, network, and graphic demands. So good luck everyone, this will pass as all things do and will probably happen again in the future.

They do all have issues. My first one was WoW. And they had many many issues over the years. So it happens.

I don't do Twitter, but I wonder if they're referring to my ticket:
Appreciate the continued feedback including http://crypticstudios.com being down. Our engineering team is looking into these issues.

I was finishing up a mission (Midnight) (again) and the loading/patch times were taking forever, and things were not loading properly, and I was getting lag and the whole thing. Terrible. Glad I finished that mission though as I was doing it on another Toon. I need to grind it some more if the servers will get back online.

All MMO's have issues. Obvious statement is obvious. That said, I have played a lot of MMOs over the last decade, and Cryptic's do seem to have...alot. But, I enjoy them anyway, so oh well.

Exactly Grandnagus1! Obvious statement is obvious. Much like the whole thread, twitter updates aside. Thanks for those btw! I havent been following twitter this evening, just tabbing in and out of coursework to check here.

We're investigating, have been for about 50 mins. Not DDoS, looking like DNS. More phone calls are being made.

Well it is the weekend... I do hope someone left food out for the poor hamster that runs the server.. Running in that wheel all day keeping things going is a pretty hard job.

idk, i left sto for a long time and played FFXIV, they had some of the smoothest graphics and frames ive seen yet. i cant rememebr a single issue of lag or launcher problems, or even being kicked for that matter..it was my favorite game, but i left when they added player marriage, the game started to turn away from actual content and focus on player interactions, so sto still has some restraint in that area..they are sci fi action adventure and not a second life singles bar, i do respect them for that. Content matters!

hope they hurry with that fix, i wanna try again on foundry

Forgot about that one. I am old, so these things happen! I was just reflecting back over my near 20 years of MMOs and all the issues that have existed. Like playing over a dial-up connection pre v.90

I can relate....lol. Having had some serious issues with past PC's, I always think it's my comp before I think it might be the game I'm logging into....glad it's not in this case... :)

If there are two things I know for certain that will NOT result from this, it is:

1.) No future proofing/litigation/long term fixes will occur

2.) No compensation of any kind will occur

So everyone should just keep those in mind. The servers will come back up eventually but this WILL happen again, it's just an inevitability.

What kind of 'compensation' do you demand?

I'm not demanding anything, others are. I'm just tired of seeing all the demands every time something like this happens.

One time they stated they were loading up red shirts and shooting them at the problem, it is my hope they have switched to yellow shirts for this new issue.

Okay, here's my theory of what happened ...

In a fit of desperate boredom, the galaxy's most ambitious tribble, Tyrone the Terrible, chose to make it his life's work to end the tyranny of all tribbles everywhere at the hands of the bloodthirsty klingons by gathering all of his tribble kindred onto a starship and find a new and unexplored world among the stars. Getting wind of Tyrone the Terrible's audacious plan, the Klingon High Command dispatched one of their fastest vessels to chase down the ambitious tribble and thwart his plan. It was a climactic battle between tribble and klingon!! In a brilliant but desperate maneuver, Tyrone the Terrible did an uncalculated slingshot maneuver around the nearby sun that sent his ship hurdling into the past where he miraculously arrives in orbit around Earth on the 19th of September, 2015. However, all is not as serene as it seems. The starship was heavily damaged in the assault, and Tyrone the Terrible is forced to make a desperate move. He abandons ship just seconds before the warp core explodes. The resulting shockwave hits Tyrone the Terrible's escape pod and he plummets into the very building that houses the servers for Star Trek Online, thus causing the mayhem we endure now.

mind you, it's just a theory.

Nope it's still red shirts because we have way too many tac officers. you'd run out of yellow or blue shirts too quickly.
