Nope. Its just a leftover from when women weren't treated equally in this country, and just kinda ingrained into society right now. Will take a long time to break it as old habits die hard.
I think I read somewhere once that a female tennis player got ripped apart for pulling her shirt off in the excitement of victory (like some guys do sometimes). The thing was... she had a sports bra on or something so you really didn't see anything anyways and it was still considered sexual. Long held beliefs are tough to break.
It was a female Soccer player after a big goal, but yes, the rest of your post is spot on.
As for Jennifer Lien - makes you wonder IF there were other reasons she was replaced on Star Trek: Voyager; and Paramount (and Jennifer/her agent) had an agreement these other reasons wouldn't be publicized by Paramount employees involved, or the Castmembers (and 'deals' like that are done all the time in Hollywood.)

I hope she's able to pull out of this and find some semblance of peace. It makes me sad to see someone so bright and successful take a hard fall. Going to keep this gal in my prayers.
Worst character in voyager. Seriously. I wouldn't want her in the game incident or not.
Third worst, Neelix is #2, and Naomi Wildman is #1
Hardly, I found Naomi more bearable then Wesley and Jake put together. Also, as child actors go, really not so bad, more acting than script reciting.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

One of the accounts I read is that this happened on Sept. 3. Wonder why it's only hitting the news outlets now? She's still in police custody on $2,500 bond. Hope she can get some help.
They're not really gone, as long as we remember them

Oh yes, you can put together the story if you followed Star Trek news and forums closely after VOY.
Braga's girlfriend had to be put on the show. And instead of firing Kim because of a stupid article Lien was put on the block.

I know that STO has been bringing so much of the cast back together, but I wonder if any of them kept in touch with Lien over the years and what they think of this.
Jeri Ryan briefly dated Braga but I'm pretty sure that was much later. They dated while Enterprise was being made if I'm correct, so it had nothing to do with her initial selection. Yes she was hot but she was also an excellent actress and had one of the most interesting characters in Star Trek.

Oh Braga, the man who prevented a TRIBBLE character, despite the protests of...well, everyone. Kate Mulgrew was a proponent and it was his homophobia (and possible over-compensation) that stopped the 24th century from feeling accurate.
I didn't know who Braga was until now. He directed TNG, ENT, VOY, and Terra Nova. Four of my favorite sci-fi shows. I hope he directs another. It would be better than anything JJ Abrams, that's for sure.
I didn't mind Neelix so much. I liked him better than Kess and Wildman. His personality contrasted with Tuvok's very well - the antics between them were pretty funny. I liked the episode where Tuvok murders Neelix on the holodeck.

When Neelix was being written like a character and not a bad joke he was fine IMO. Unfortunately most of the writing staff wrote him as a bad joke.
Indeed, seems like meth has got the best of her, honestly I didnt recognize her on those mug shots. I feel so sorry for her.
Was she an addict? I never kept up with her. I know Amanda Peterson (Can't Buy Me Love) became an addict which totally screwed her up and she wound up dying a few months ago.
I liked her character as Kes. Its sad she got caught up in this, what ever she was doing. I agree with the others, she didn't age well at all. Some age well and look fine, others just get rough looking. Her haircut is just horrible.

Damn, what an ugly hag she became. I liked her blond with long hairs.
