My subjective feel is that the intel ships are abhorrent (at least Starfleets), I hope I did spell it right. Everyone has different tastes.
"Cryptic Studio’s Jack Emmert (2010): Microtransactions are the biggest bunch of nonsense. I like paying one fee and not worrying about it – like my cellphone. The world’s biggest MMO isn’t item based, even though the black market item GDP is bigger than Russia … microtransactions make me want to die.”
Why do people talk as if the Intel designs were "replacing" traditional designs? We've had traditional designs alongside Intel ships(Guardian, Mat'ha, Aelahl), and the skins were presented as "themed" skins on "themed" ships. The same as the Dyson skins on the Dyson ships. And strangely, no one was thinking that the Dyson skins were "replacing" traditional" ship skins.
The way it was initially intended didn't change. The skins were just wrongly interpreted as replacements instead of the merely themed skins that they always were. The Intel skins WILL return if/when we get more Intel-specialization gimmick ships(aka the ones with "Gather Intel" and Cmdr Intel seating), and they will still only be thematic, not replacements.
This is a Star Trek Game..
Intel ships do not look like they belong in Star Trek, hence they were not well received.
That aside..they're also hideous and horrible. I honestly can't even fly my Phantom because it looks like I'm flying a glowing pancake. The Eclipse can look.. ok with the Phantom Nacelles, but otherwise it's a disaster too.
The reason they didn't follow this design model is because they want to actually sell ships.
Eye of the beholder aside I thought the Intel ship's were hideous.

Never liked them. The concept might have been cool, but those intel ships made me decide easier if I should buy the Delta pack or not.. and ofc I didn't.

I ever thought the intelligence ships looks like this because of present design of some stealth aircraft and boats.
So I think the intel ship style was never intended as general Starfleet ship style.
The Intel ships are styled after the Vengeance from ID, they're a side line and resemble Starfleets ship development no more then the Dyson ships do.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

the intel ships was radical new style of ships , i was hoping see more new ships keeping that way of style of ships ,but nahhh they back to old orignal style of ships no improve nothing new just recycle old ships making a mix of ships a saucer of this ,one deflector of this ,the engines of that. and walaaa you got a hibrid ship of old ship,no new only mix of old things never sell on zen store, i see many epic fails in zen store waiting for some one buyed (never happend)in the end that fail ships are give to ppl in free weekend of rewards
As much as I liked, and still like their design, it was just a one-time-only "derail" from the canon design. Was stated by the ship artists aswell. Much like the pilot ships and the command ships too.
As for the original designs, those sell alot, it seems. From a pod cast LP said that now best sold ship is the Galaxy. Remember awhile ago was the Scimitar...
The poor Qib pancake gets no respect. I like the point how the 'spec-focused' ships do have different design cues up-thread though.
I like and still use on a kdf toon the Fleet Qib. The fleet version is way better, looks like a leaf or those original asgard-motherships from SG-1 show. And as for stats, it rocks.
