Miranda as some sort of Frigate or Raider style escort is an awesome idea, and it would fit the story for the ship. It's old, out dated, and only used to pad the numbers. Put pulse phasers on her, or dual beam banks? She'd fit right in with the modern Starfleet, just... being blown up like a TIE fighter.
Hell, they could do this too with the Excalibur and the Vesper-class ships. They aren't big hulking cruisers like the newer modern ships, but they're still spry enough to toss into the furnace.
I wouldn't mind an updated T6 Miranda. I quite like the current design and colour scheme, I would cenrtainly like to see what the design team can come up with.
I still giggle @ the miranda train in sector space when ppl started playing their delta char
I must admit, I'd enjoy flying around stomping Iconians in a little Miranda.
However... Given Cryptic's reluctance to offer T5's of the Miranda, Connie, or (insert underappreciated ship here), and the little inconvienient truth that Cryptic is more interested in selling their own designs instead of ships we all know and love, I'm not going to expect any kind of positive response on this.
Also, CBS might have some words on this, as I believe it was them who put the halt on T5 Mirandas and Connies... (can someone post a link confirming this?)
The Miranda class and its variations were actually seen several times in DS9 and Next Gen, more that latter than the former.
In my opinion, a T6 Miranda/another new modern skin, would make a good platform to base a federation raider on, an analogue to the BoP, it can already load cannons, its a reasonably nimble ship and fits the relative profile. Even the USS Centaur in DS9, one of the Miranda alt skins was able to maneuver as well as the defiant in the few clips we saw of it.
Fill it out with universal boff stations, equalize the console slots and give it a cruiser shield mod to compensate for the lack of a cloak, or stretch convention a bit and actually give it a battle cloak, Raiders don't work very well without them after all.
Give it a pilot Lt Cmdr spec and a intel Lt (intel particularly if it were to receive a battle cloak)
Might be a bit of a pipe dream, but for the record I'm a primarily KDF player and I have no issue with the Federation (and rommies for that matter) getting a BOP analogue. Specially with the way Cryptic have been doing releases lately.
Well considering their role in DS9 as cannon fodder, I can see an updated version serving a similar role to the T34 during WW2, quick, easy to build ships that pack a nasty punch. They would take the Defiant attitude of "guns on a warp core" to the extreme, no battlecloak, probably no cloak at all, they're not cheap.
You could use them for planetary defence putting a couple of shipyards at each of the core worlds of each faction just to mass produce them, Voyager proved you only need a captain and the computer to control a starship which saves on crews. Or perhaps, taking it to the extreme, leave them crewless but slaved to a command ship.
Designed by Mark Rademaker (the creator of the Vesta class) and features in the book series - it shares a LOT of design features with the Miranda, and if it were introduced the Miranda skin could perhaps be an option.
make it so i would rather them spend money to get the rights from mark, like they did with the vesta than all the money they are spending on this voice acting TRIBBLE
T6 Miranda would probably list for the same price point as the rest of the T6 ships. Too expensive.
However, Making a T5U version which listed for about the same price as the rest of the T5s ought to be doable. Make the original Miranda skin and parts available as well. I wonder how long it would take to copy/paste a set of BoP files and swap out the mesh and skin.
But as always, CBS has final say over ships which have appeared in a series or one of the films. I'll bet this is one of the reasons why there are so many ships in STO which look so different. Probably cheaper to make a brand new one from scratch than sppend the money to get CBS to approve something.
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.
I wasn't clear in my previous post. I was trying to suggest one of the reasons we may not see a T6 or even a T5 Miranda is CBS has final say. They may say no like they have with the Connie.
Which would be a shame. Miranda is really one of the icons in a whole squadron of stars. What other Star Trek ships can say they beat Jim Kirk and 1701? I'd like to see it get a new lease on life as a repurposed ship which can do end game stuff. The precedent is already established with other ships such as the Excelsior class.

If the Miranda is going to be made into a tier 5 or 6 ship it needs to be a jack of all trades master of none. I was thinking, Universal Bridge Officer Slots all the way, with four of each console type, and maybe a secondary deflector. Plus being able to mount dual cannons, and has four weapon slots fore and aft. Base hull of maybe 40,000 Slightly more than a Science Ship, while less than a Cruiser, well one of the big modern designs anyway.
Proud Trekkie Favorite episode from TOS is The Doomsday Machine TNG: Yesterday's Enterprise VOY: Endgame part 1 and 2 DS9: Emissary ENT: Assmilation
Still, I would like to have a ship that's sort of a master of none. The Klingons get the Bird of Preys they are good all rounders. However the Federation doesn't get stuff like that. I was thinking this might be a nice chance to put in some of the lesser known classes of Federation Starships. Apollo-Class, Sadin-class, Freedom-Class, Yamato-Class. Any other ideas?

I'd put the Ambi up for that role with the ability to field FAW and APB along with high level sci and range of engineering powers... While it can't specialise really it can do a little of everything.
Just use the T6 HEC with all parts set up like this:
Seriously...
Firstly, that looks awesome. Secondly, I always assumed the Akira class was a kind of 24th Century version of the Miranda. That aside, I'd love to be able to use the Miranda skin on a T6 ship. If it can be its own class instead of a skin then even better.

Yes, the Merian Class is one helluva good loking ship. Always been a fan of her. They really ought to contact Rademaker for this one, his Vesta Class is one of the best looking ships in the game and it sold like cupcakes. This awesome design, paired with the fact of being a T6 Miranda and using the canon skins would sell like cupcakes as well.

I agree.
It would also allow players to run Centaur and ShiKahr Class skins on potential endgame light cruisers.

I saw it on the ESD shipyard. I'm going to assume you're a Fed... Because, well... Excelsior.

You sure you don't already have a Miranda hidden away somewhere is a long list of unused ships?
