My main concern about the constant releasing of T6 ships at level 50+ effectively nullifies the existence of the T5 ships that are available at 50+.
On a semi-related note; has there been any consideration given to the fact that the sudden influx of T6 ships might drive down sales of T5 ships and upgrade tokens?
It very likely does. But I think that's something Cryptic kinda expects. The whole upgrade system was probably just there to bridge the time needed to release all the ships they were planning. They probably knew they couldn't make them all at once (since it requires a new model and some new ability), and even if they could, they couldn't release all at once since that would likely dilute sales.
The reason to buy any Tier 5 ship now is basically the same as to buy a Tier 2, 3 or 4 ship now. For the costume or for the console. (It's not like you ever needed them for levelling!)
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
^ This makes sense. Technically, no one has to buy anything anyway. Regardless, the influx of T6 is probably being very impactful toward sales, much like the upgrade tokens were when released. There, a single character could have multiple ships to be upgraded, thus resulting in a financial bonanza that has likely leveled off.
I am a bit shocked to see this one,
like the users above me, I half expected the t6 defiant, kdf bop and romulan bop to have made an appearance now with pilot abilities...
Carriers are nifty and all but until the pilots of our pets we launch get half a brain and don't fly into every damn explosion on the map, I still wont use them.
Something like being able to have a lead fighter and switching to it, from there you can order fighters to hit and run, form up and etc as well as have your ship provide support fire from a distance?
In any case I was planning on getting the Pilot Raptor Bundle but now we're thrown this? Damn it! Now I'm torn between them. Seeing those pilots rush off to their deaths and explode into fireballs is like watching fireworks. However with all these upgrades coming out, I would like to see the Fleet Starbase get another Tier added so that players can get access to fleet versions and give devs the chance to make the Fleet Starbase system to look like it did in the Season 6 trailer, with the planets in the background (The lower decks could do with an update).

I'm so happy I bought the T5 escort carrier for 50$ total (a year ago for the rom one), because I can spend another 50$ for the same ship, only slightly better with a new skin !
Thank you for taking my otherwise cumbersome money. I can't wait for the T7, next year or so, same ship, only slightly better ! It's like a rental !
I think this guy gets how the business model of a F2P has to work if it has to cover the same cost and profit requirements that a subscription model used to carry.

Correct.
Still, it's not necessary to do so on the player side.
All of the story content was designed to be beaten with the old free T4, the T5 being the optional premium.
Now they did the T6 thing to add the new leveling experience for a leveled playerbase. It's how MMOs work.
Some may say it's pay to win but considering the state of PvP I doubt this definition has a real meaning for this particular game.
I for one am a fan of the NX and Akira and was waiting for the T6 Escort Carrier and I happily made my first buy for it.
Sure the cost in real money for all the ZEN needed to unlock all consoles and costumes of the series is high, with the 44 bucks being just below the needed quantity I was forced to take the 100 bucks offer, and being one who thanks Valve for normalizing the videogames prices I am not one that spends that much on a single game usually, but like it's been said this is an online game, it's another world, you can play for years, so it counts like various games in the end.
Now I have enough Zen to buy them when my char reaches the proper levels and to buy also at least another T6 pack for my current main character.
And it sure will be a long time before a possible Tier 7 level will come and again, it would not be mandatory to upgrade.
In that case, likely T6U upgrade tokens will be released and that would suffice for me I think.
And in any case if I'll still be playing they may deserve another purchase.
I still dream from time to time about using the Gateway to doff off-game in spare minutes as we were told

Examples; Avenger (2500z) plus upgrade (700z) is 3200z - T6 Arbiter is 3000z and comes with a Starship Trait at full mastery level; same with the Armitage/Alita and Ar'Kif Carrier/Jhu'eal - the T6 version is 200z cheaper than the T5 and an upgrade token and the T6 comes with a full Starship Mastery path complete with Starship Trait at the end instead of a truncated one as the T5-U ships have.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm beginning to find myself disinclined to purchase any T5 ships from the C-Store - or any upgrade tokens for those ships I already have that are still un-upgraded - because of the distinct possiblity that a T6 version would come out under the above-mentioned conditions of full Mastery path and 200z cheaper than T5 ship+Upgrade Token. I look at the ships I don't have and I wonder 'Is this going to be the next ship to recieve a T6? How will I feel if I buy it now and next week they announce the T6 version? Should I even bother with it?'
I actually got the Qa'tel for 2500, so I can use the other 500 zen I saved up to gain a fleet module for the Fleet Qin Flight Deck Raptor.
Anyone else find it weird that they called the Fleet verison A Qin, not a Qa'tel, I mean there is already a Fleet Qin in the game.
I am basically just letting the stipend pile up to the point when something comes out that I would actually want then I might get something but so far they haven't come out with anything that peaks my interest.
