I have stopped playing STO. I would be considered a lifer, and a whale, and whatever other adjective the gaming community comes up with...I have been around since beta and hung in there through this Iconian War but simply had to quit before 10.5 launched because STO has really fallen from grace. While I'm glad there are players who are still discovering the game and checking things out, I personally have very little enjoyment in this poor sick game that at one time had a lot of promise.
But Cryptic, and TRENDY (yeah, calling you out here) closing threads that are having an open discussion about the game and the course it's been on...what exactly do you guys think this is going to acomplish? Maybe we didn't learn anything in history class when trying to stop open communication, stifling ideas if you don't like the discussion, where that type of activity leads.
Sorry Cryptic, buts it's no big secret that this game has been severely mismanaged, both from a player point of view, and an employee point of view. And while you may not want to publish exact numbers as to active players online, using third parties to gain players (like Steam) that DO track player activity, and clearly show a devastating decline in player activity in the game, might as well be addressed.
It's business 101, you make a product and put the product on the market for consumers to consume. Some businesses pay attention to what their customers are asking for, and while not everyone gets what they want from one company, that company may see a theme from what their customers want and maintain customer loyalty by fulfilling that desire. And by letting the community discuss (what is clearly NOT some little conspiracy theory, but an actual undeniable fact, that the player base has suffered enormous declines) those conversations just might lead to inspiration. The thread you most recently closed down was one such thread. The people having the conversation were simply discussing the changes they noticed and some mentioned some alternatives that the player could do within the game so as not to feel so isolated while playing. I just find it ridiculous that since you guys don't like people talking about how the game is really sick and player base has taken a serious hit, and let that conversation play out, you'd act like the TRIBBLE SS and shut it down when that particular conversation (was neither mine nor was I involved in it) wasn't a typical doom thread but one player's (a newer player at that) observation that something is clearly going on. What's even funnier is that history has always proven that when the "authortarian" decides to conceal fact and stifle freedom of speech, it not only backfires but proves the very nature of the conversation they are engaged in.
STO is in some weird illness. That's a fact. Is it dead? Obviously not because this forum wouldn't exist and I wouldn't be standing on this soapbox right now. But OBVIOUSLY somebthing is up. It's sick, it's dying, it's something, whatever label you want to throw on it, my point is it would be wiser to get out in front of it, and let a player conversation evolve so that perhaps the developers might get inspired but something that said and turn things around, than to run around like the gestapo shooting every conversation in the head. Because the players asking if the game is dead, are usually the ones who actually care about the game and don't want to see it die.

And this one has supposedly been dead for about four years now.

Describes self as "whale"; tick!
Mentions censorship & free speech in some form; tick!
Talks about perceived decline in player-base; tick! (Brucie-Bonus for mentioning Steam stats)
Godwin's law? DING DING DING!
Well, OP, it was a nice attempt...
And then he follows up with another combination doom/I quit thread. Brilliant!
2 wrongs don't make a right.
But 3 rights make a left.
Perhaps this will lead to some scratching head moments among the publishers/devs and make some changes for the better for the 10 peeps left in game then. I don’t know.

your posts and threads alike seem contain DOOM doom and more DOOOOM so yeh er maybe that's why your threads get closed cause they break the forum rules. .
just a thought. . .
OP, you do have some valid points. However, it could be possible that you aren't made to fit into the shape this game provides. I know how it feels to see something you would like to have but real world conditions prevented me from owning. MMO's from Pacific Rim countries, for example: They either do not have an 'English' translation, or they simply do not allow any North American peoples from being able to participate in them due to their respective creation laws or limitations. It's kind of like a small whack to the 'family jewels'. It hurts and takes a bit of your breath away...but you bootstrap yourself back up and carry on. It's just life. Some things can not be changed. It's better to accept that, for the long run.
1. Dooooom Thread (Wow. Phone autocorrect added the extra o's. What does that mean?)
2. I Quit Thread
3. Thread Discussing Moderation
Nice job, OP.
Steam to me is out-dated and wholly unnecessary and seeing as laptops and machines are now that much more advanced than even 3 years ago, it's way more preferable to have the actual program run solo from your own machine.
What I find hillarious is that almost 2 years ago he was saying the same thing. Everyone is quitting!!!!! hmmm.. and yet the game still looks to be going strong and he's still here playing. Makes you wonder if some of these people live in some alternate reality. lol
Maybe, but calling this OP's post a "load of trash" is still trolling. One person's perceived bad behavior is not an excuse to do the same.

I think people make too many complicated assumptions how this works.
Cryptic is trying to make money. It doesn't matter whether PWE wants them to make money, too. They are a business. And a business will try to give its consumers products that they buy. It will try to find incentives for them to spend more money.
Since Cryptic stopped being able to rely on monthly subscription sales, Cryptic had to find ways to get people spending money on the game. Everything they do - be it grindfest, 3-packs, level cap increases, story missions - it's all trying to get them to earn money. IF they make something you don't like - maybe they made a mistake, maybe there is an evil man behind it that wants the game to fail and punish all Star Trek fans, or at least all Klingon fans or at least all Romulan fans - but most likely they just think that this is a way for them to earn more money from the game then they spend on the game. And there is a good chance that most of the time they were right about this, because if they weren't, the game would not be seeing continuous development as much as it did so far. There is another, simple business aspect to all of it - if your product does not sell, stop making it. If it doesn't sell well, stop making more than you can sell.
Erm he said load of tosh (Bristish English, means nonsense) not trash. How is stating that something is nonsense trolling?
Also, is inb4lock still a thing?
There is plenty of truth in this forums that is not locked or moderated, so that is hardly the problem. It is tough to find because it usually drowns between complains, whining and insulting. So there is that.
