Time for a true Federation carrier

thyrahthyrah Member Posts: 19 Arc User
Since the Iconian war is going badly for us, we need to replace all of the ships lost.
What we need in the Fed is a true carrier (not the Atrox or the Obelisk) something
with some real meat to it. What I suggest for an offering is the following.
A reworked Jupiter Class ship to be a carrier. Allowing for a 4/3 load out for weapons.
Base hull of 42,000 with a max hull to 50k (fleet?). Additionally the universal consel (borrowed
from the Klingons) of a barrier shield from the Varanus Science ship. Equally tac/Eng based
allowing for 1 Tac (commander)- 1 Eng (Lt. Comm) - 1 Science (Ensign) and
2 universal B.Officer slots with 1 Command (Lt Comm. or?) and 1 Pilot slots (Lt. Comm. or?).
Consel slots, 4 tac - 4 Eng. - 2 science or if the developers are feeling
generous 3 science consel slots. Ability to use dual cannjons etc....

Now lets talk about the hanger pets. 2 hangers with 4 Aquarius Escorts (2x2) having the same
weapons loadout as the origional Aquarius ship with the additional of a phaser beam
array or dual beam bank. One last thing here is cannon rapid fire and torpedo high yeild.
This is where the "meat" part comes in, no sissy shuttles or swarmers.

My last suggestion that it is NOT a lockbox ship and would prefer it to be addited to the
list of ("other") ships a player can choose from at level 50. If the Klingons and Romulins
raise a fuss they could be given a new type ship as well, but the Kilngons already have
2 carrier to choose from.(actually 3). Something allowing Command and Pilot stations
together.

What are your thoughts or suggestions to maybe make this a better idea?

Holy moley - command and pilot together. Why not just say Intel Pilot and Command together? The reason for carriers is for longer distance fighting. Since there is only one weapon in the game with longer than 10K range (and it is junk), the designers basically DON"T WANT CARRIERS. You have more control of your group of ground crew, than you do your fighter/bomber wing. None of the carrier commands allow strike wings to act as strike wings, and even interceptors don't act as interceptors. Maybe if we ever get to varying weapon ranges, then the carrier would come to life. Until then: wrong game, wrong art team, wrong franchise for CARRIERS.

I sympathize with your cause, but I fear this discussion will result in nothing... based on past response from the game designers.

Well command and pilot together was just the first thought of something I believe will happen some
day. As for the idea of longer ranged weapons that actually work, I'm all with you on that one. I am not
quite sure how to "fix" hanger pets so that act more their part, but maybe some day.

All in all thou, I still feel it's time for a true Federation only carrier. But then again, many have called
    me a dreamer.

Whoa there bro, that's some impressive stats you've suggested. And by impressive I mean woefully overpowered.

Firstly, the dual spec, Command is ok (a Lt. Com level station would likely work) but having a Pilot spec carrier? Not likely gonna happen.

You have 1 too many Boff abilities, T6 has 13, you'll have to lose one.
Commander Tac stations are generally only put on escorts, putting one on a carrier would be crazy. (Lt. Com might be ok)
The Aquarius Hangars I wouldn't object to, however, the Odyssey cruiser already has a seperation ability which launches the Aquarius and Cryptic wouldn't take a unique feature like that and drop it on another ship, perhaps using the Federation Scout ship from Insurrection?

    Oh, one last thing...

There is already a thread discussing a potential T6 carrier in the Federation Shipyards subforum. --> Link <--

    *ahem* ..."generally"

Also, If I'm not mistaken that is a Lobi store ship? Which would mean it leans more toward P2W than C-Store ships, or factional ships.

Which is what the OP is suggesting, a factional carrier.

Latest news! STO has dropped the ball once again. Thinking we will love having yet another
escort-carrier is totally unacceptable. Yes, I suppose if I were to spend enough RLM to afford
a Lobi ship I would not have anything to complain about. BUT... I'm 60 y.o. (really) and on a
limited budget so C-store and Lobi ships are out. Then again my Klingon has a Vo'quv carrier
as a in-game ship, and I have collected enough dilithium to get (2) B'roth hanger pets for it.
However since my Delta Recruit never had the chance to get a Oblisk carrier I am stuck
without a carrier. This is the reason for the post, just why can't we have a non-fleet (module)
carrier like the Klingons. I'm not asking for a battle cloak, just a ship that matches the Vo"quv
(OK, or betters it). As for OP, I like OP against Iconians, they're far too OP as it is.

Tell me about. The most absurd thing are those little devils that are their fighters. The Mirs. Those can ram you deal damage to you. While not recieving any in return. I mean WTF! You ram something that weighs probably something north of 5 million metric tons in a fighter. You should go splat on the hull!

it's also the baltim frigates that ram you as well - usually after entering a gateway and appearing in your aft

and they tend to deal far more damage

I know I once had one of those things ram me. He did like 15k damage out of my 62k hull. I was like 'Err WTF?'

I use the Vo'quv and Fekhiri carriers on the KDF side and love them both. I haven't purchased the Fed cat carrier because it doesn't sport the unique two level bridge that I think that carrier deserves. But I would love to see the carrier brought fully into the Fed side. Frankly, with the armada system you could expand the battles to the strategic sphere with the added resources and the carrier could definitely have a role in that arena.

Only thing I have found as a good defence against them is Eject Warp Plasma (or Theta). They really don't like it to the point they stay away from me when I eject it. Also works well against torpedos from behind. But seriously (repetting myself) we need a "full" carrier with escorts or frigates. I say "who cares" if I'm a tiny bit OP

I don't understand why people are calling the T6 HEC a fail, they addressed that useless Tac Ens position by upgrading it to Lt. Uni, I'm not terribly impressed with the only Eng station being a hybrid, but the Lt. Uni can help with that.

Anyway, I do agree, fighters/shuttles are in need of serious help, anyone would be an idiot/ignorant/silly/just doesn't care to equip fighters/shuttles on a carrer capable of slotting frigates.

Escort carriers and Flight Deck Cruisers can potentially be quite effective ships in combat with a single hangar, but the only hangar pets worth using on said ships are Yellowstones, Scorps, Swarmers.

Which in itself is kinda depressing:
    Yellowstones have no teeth.
Scorps (Elites) have torps which are devastating if they don't get FAW'd to death before impact.
Swarmers are great with their BO attacks but are made of cardboard.

In short, fighters/shuttles just aren't worth using if your enemies use attacks such as BFAW, they just can't take a hit.

If they could actually evade FAW spam, they might be able to live long enough to do some damage...

Also, the AI of hangar pets (specifically the ones with cannons) should be adjusted (perhaps copy-paste from Vaadwaur ships, they use their cannons effectively?), they tend to just circle their targets attacking with their turret not their main cannons.

Considering our heavy losses, I am not sure it's a good idea to put people into flying coffings. I mean, it reeks desperation; I suppose, but is it really something that could help us win the war?

I'd recommend any further Carriers to move in the "Drone" Carrier direction.

only a true blue feddie bear would demand a carrier (and another kdf console) while the kdf and the roms still lack a viable sci ship. you got your catbox and i reckon you should be grateful you even got that.

Considering this is the "Federation Gameplay" subforums, asking for a Federation carrier wouldn't be out of line here...

As for the console, yeah trying to get a KDF C-store console on a Federation C-Store (?) ship is asking too much, at best I'd ask for the Barrier Field Generator to be placed in one of those cross-faction requisition packs from lockboxes. Which I woultn't anyway as I rarely use the one I have, I've only found it useful in Crystaline Entity as it blocks the shockwave attack, even then I usually just take it because it blocks you from attacking and sometimes isn't destroyed by the shockwave... A very situational console. :/

Also, the Barrier Field Generator is from the Phalanx Science vessel, not the Varanus. That one has the Repair Platforms, which ironically IS in a cross-faction requisition box. lol

Edit: And I do have to agree, the Republic DOES need a full carrier more than the Feds do, dispite the 'cat carrier' isn't exactly a great example of a 'full carrier'... *coughs* no frigates! *coughs*

The interesting thing has always been when Star Trek enters a game universe and attempts to make a fleet - The largest fleets seen on screen have been ridiculously small and honestly underpowered. (Not to mention I find it amusing and rather strange that within 5 days of starting this game I am already a Vice Admiral - Too many cooks in the kitchen? )

The idea of a carrier/fighter system for the Federation - (and also the Romulans etc) would be a agreat idea - I am by far a newbie in the game but militarily the Federation would have been overpowered by every power in the galaxy if we were to rely on that which has only been seen in Canon/Lore... The amount of ships - type of ships - all are out of whack... Then again, the focus of Star Trek has never been truly on the ships or combat between them - but rather the greater story over all...

The amount of ships available to the Federation ( I have not played Romulan yet - however that is what I will be doing soon - ) is massive - and much more diverse than has been seen anywhere... However the idea that the Federation never decided to have a carrier/fighter/escort system BEFORE bringing the Obelisk Carrier back from the Dyson Sphere is mentally atrophied in principle...

But whether or not a true Federation carrier is ever revealed, or a Romulan one for that matter, won't help me none - seeing as I won't spend $300 on a game - again... Especially seeing as 'the economics of the 24th (or in STO the 25th) century are much different' and they 'no longer have any need for money' ---- HAHAHA
