I'm at my wits ends; Each time I try to play STO the game refuses to get pass the "Cryptic" screen, after a short time has past the game closes and a pop-up appears saying: "Fatal Error: Unable to initialize on-demand patching and connect to Patch Server: The connection was idle for too long".
It can't be a video driver problem as this has started happening since last week's maintenance (Not this week's 23/07/2015, LAST week's 16/07/2015), before hand I was able to play STO with no problems.
Does anyone at Cryptic know why this happens to a number of people because I'm absolutely clueless. If anyone else has a reasonable explanation as to why this happens then I'll also be grateful.

Login on SAVE mode and change the Video card settings.
I tried it with Safe Mode on and I still got the fatal error pop-up. Now I really don't know what to do.
Tried both Gameproxys AND in Safe Mode.... still crashes at the cryptic screen AND still gives me the Fatal Error pop-up.
Now I'm well and truly clueless as what to do now... :-(
Try to ping the patch server ('ping patchserver.crypticstudios.com') and see if the request completes.
You can also try tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com, maybe that will show where the connection is getting dropped. I'm just grasping at straws here, I have no idea what would cause this. It would help though if we can determine if it's an issue on your PC, or with the connection between you and Cryptic.
I tried to use the ping the patch server thing but the instructions only work for windows 7, not windows 8.1. It's also unlikely that there is a problem with my PC as I was able to play the game an hour before the reset and even though my internet isn't the greatest I was still able to connect with no problems what so ever.
I think I have to face the fact I'm now incapable of playing the game, darn it and I nearly had enough summer tokens to get that Ferangi-Risian escort....
I tried that as well and that doesn't work either.
Hm... well... My only remaining suggestion is to hit it with a stick... see if that works.
