just read that thread "would you pay more for T6 ships" this is my 2 cents, that is literally easier on my pocket.
First off, I will not pay for another ship. I came back after a year to find all my ships are outdated after investing so much. Now with that being said, starship mastery adds a bit more depth in specializing in a ship or two (or 4) so it's not impossible to get it up to date.
Most of you who have maxed your T5U won't go and spend money for t6 version, God knows I won't; moving forward I think they shouldn't upgrade those t5u to T6. New tier ships should be all new never before seen ships. With that being said it would be cool to see the ship mastery teirs go further past T5 mastery via fleet ship yards or something like that.
They should really reward those captains who spend countless hours in one ship.
Id rather pay to further my ship than pay for a whole new ship,
This way players can play there fav ship without feeling like they're nerfin themselves.
Now perfect world think of a way for us to open our pockets to have our ship at tier 10 mastery.
Instead of just readjusting some pixels& stats then reselling what you've already sold us, further the development tree of the ships we already have and give us new ships if anything. Way to many "end game" ships are obsolete now.
Would you rather pay for a new ship or pay to upgrade your current ship? 75 votes
Pay to max out current ship.

Pay for new ship - who on Earth would prefer to do that
Pay to max out current ship - who on Earth would not prefer to do that
Pay for both - who... wait did you actually put it there!?
Skip this people.

It's a pain to get a new captain up to speed so I'm not looking for new ships either.
Probably run pricing simular to a tier 5u upgrade token and perhaps place a limit to the number of specialty seats any tier 5u+ could have. Also with the last sentence I would assume limiting use of this new feature to tier 5u and above.
This would allow us to have greater customization on our personal favorite ships and even being a tier 5u ship closer to a tier 6 ship but still leaving a difference in tier 6 by they are the only ones unlocking starship traits.
How would something like that sound?
I'd imagine the devs. Look at these "polls" and determine which way they want the game to go based on the community thoughts.
Cryptic will charge you for every instance of a ship that you want, and will have no regrets in offering you a slightly better version of the ship six months/one year/etc down the road. Nothing you do or say will change that.
So, carry on, all.
Sounds solid to me
Even then, this thread makes no sense, it asks the obvious. One of the "I need to write something" threads.
I'll say it again. Skip this thread people.
Me? I'm happy with my Tempest T5-U. When the power creep reached the point where it ceases to be a viable ship for playing this game I'll pack up and leave.
I like the Scryer for my Sci Captain. It fits most of my needs pretty well. However before that I was in a Vesta but if the Devs sinply slung T6 stats, the cloak, the intel seats and the mastery trait on to make a proper T6 Vesta I'd be exceptionally be happy because that would be a wonderful, aesthetically pleasing ship to fly.
Unfortunately why the Scyrer performs well for me, its not as pretty as a Vesta.
Ehm.. yea? 10 years ago i paid 50 dollar for a game. And when i play the game now, nobody is online, and the graphics are very outdated...
This asks for a "duh" moment.
For me, that's merely a convenience thing. And it also feels better. You can actually pretend your ship just went to a re(tro)fit.
That was probably the fundamental mistake Cryptic made. They should have made ships level with you.
Cryptic saw the ships not as *the* character but merely as equipment to be discarded at the earliest convenience.
To go a bit Arthurian, the ship and the captain are one is the secret Cryptic never realized.
Hrmm, I think that needs a wee bit of elaboration. You guys know how some folks are unhappy with the diversity of gameplay...how most things tend toward one thing regardless of what a person is flying? How for the most part it doesn't matter what type of captain or ship one is hitting up an episode with, for the most part it is the same?
Picture the following, eh?
The Next Generation with Sisko flying Voyager.
Deep Space 9 with Janeway flying Enterprise.
Voyager with Picard flying Defiant.
The Next Generation with Janeway flying Defiant.
Deep Space 9 with Picard flying Voyager.
Voyager with Sisko flying Enterprise.
And well, things would have to be rewritten and dumbed down...kind of like what STO offers.
Career choices in the game are just a minor part of the itemization for the ship.
Ship choices in the game are just fluff because of the content design.
So yeah, what I was saying there was about giving more weight to various choices - not locking them hard, still giving some wiggle room, perhaps something even offered as pretty open via replay - but having more of a constructive path requiring some thought and rewarding diversified gameplay.
Somebody wants to be a Sci Captain flying a Tactical Ship...then they're on that career path, they get ships assigned to them based on that career path, and they get to enjoy content that's somewhat tied to that career path choice.
You could have five different players all play the same content...in different ways...sort of thing.
STO plays more like Star Trek Privateer...folks running around with letters while doing whatever.
Picard on the Defiant would be a show I'd watch. Gunboat diplomacy across the Delta quadrant with a dash of run silent, run deep.
Where would Neelix put his kitchen on the Defiant?
Deck 6.
Heh, poor Neelix...
me too.
Second, I think polls were disabled for a very good reason on the old forums, and what is going on right now is demonstrating that reason.
Except Cryptic still sells the T5 ships for full-price. Some of them haven't been obsoleted with T6 yet, so people are still buying them today for the purpose of upgrading to fleet and/or T5-U. They are being sold as current active ships.
OTOH, your software analogy, you expect that stuff to be in the $5 bargain bin
And your "duh" comment not really called for in light of things
Because, at the end of the day, I know when the T-6 Defiant,BOP, and T'varo are released. I will be the first one shelling out for them.
I also want a T-6 Excelsior.
This is the Star Trek I liked, back when you had to spec Into cruisers/escorts/sci those of you who have been around long enough will remember such times.
And for the love of god I'm not spending money to get a single star ship trait. 3000 zen for one starship trait...,all those traits should be put on ship specific mastery. So all ships can attain the starship traits with respect to the type of ship it is with the right level of mastery! Think about that for a second.
So escorts can have all the escort starship traits per mastery etc etc.
End game I feel should really reward the captain for choosing his or end game ship without the feeling it'll will be shoeboxed in a cpl months due to powercreep.
