Do you buy only an individual ship in a bundle rather than the complete set?

mustrumridcully0mustrumridcully0 Member Posts: 12,963 Arc User
Cryptic has recently started offering more bundles, particular cross-faction bundles.
I wonder how many people actually ignore the bundle and just go for individual ships.

So, of course assuming you buy or have bought ships from bundles at all, what do you do?
For the sake of the poll's simplicity, I don't go into detail whether you buy only 3-packs or also like 9-packs. Feel free to elaborate in your reply.

That Cryptic is offering more bundles is probably due to the success of previous 9-ship packs.
3 ships to the price of 2 or 9 ships to the price of 6 is more money for Cryptic than 1 for the price of 1, but of course, the development cost of 3 respectively 9 ship is of course higher, too. But I suppose the profit margins are usually high enough it still works out.

A positive aspect mght be that there is some "cross-funding" going on - Anyone going for a pack might buy ships he might not have normally bought, e.g. a Fed-focused character buying a 3-ship cross faction pack for his barely played KDF character just to be on the safe side and it's a 3 for 2 deal, for example.
But of course, a 3-pack for a particular faction can also mean that you spend a lot of money for a few customization options and a console set bonus, since you can and will probably only fly one of them.

The only "Pack" I ever purchased is the Delta Rising Ops pack because it contains ships that are more or less unique from each other rather than just a slightly different variant.

Unfortunately, I will never use the Aelahl Light Warbird Battlecruiser since I do not want to bother creating another Romulan captain beyond my Tactical and Science captains.

Looking back, I made a few bundle purchases, but would have been better off making single. I guess it really depends overall.

the bundles are so expensive for virtual items, if i was going after it i would do it over an amount of time to soften the blow of the costs. and as far as grinding for it, my problem is, is that im lucky i get moments where i can grind out some hours and for the most part i just cant stomach it despite the ignorance that life is a grind.. in any event, id be lucky to scrape together enough for one ship and just give up after that.

The only bundle I claimed (via dil grind) was the "iconic ships" bundle and that's because I wanted all three ships for my mains of each faction/subfaction available. I probably wouldn't buy packs with three or more of the same spaceframe. c7c48c24933a6881f52cf57836fd391f.gif

Depends. If it's specialization ships, I grab the Fed 3-ship bundle for my main. If it's from a bundle with one ship per faction, I just get the ship I want individually.

Back when I actually made Zen purchases (no more), I did make one bundle purchase--the Vesta. But then I knew I loved playing science so much that I was likely to use multiple variants and setups on different toons. That one was worth it. But outside of special circumstances like that, I doubt I would be making any more ship purchases. In fact, other than my Samsars, I haven't even bothered to get T6's for my toons. (And I only did that for the trait, and because it was a nice side effect of my relentless Omega particle farming.)

I only bought 4 ships in total so far. One was the Blockade Runner that i got when i got into the game by buying the Steam Starter Pack. And the other 3 were the Fed Pilot Escorts that i got in a bundle. I love flying the my Pilot Escort but had the Nandi been released prior to the Pilot Escorts i would have not picked them up.
But now i am flying my Tac Pilot Escort and i am very happy about it. The only other thing i use from the bundle is the Sci starship trait. So overall the bundle was kinda a waste and i doubt i will buy a bundle ever again.

I have not voted since i don't really buy ships anyway ^^

I used to buy the bundles but with the greatly increased obsolescence rate I only buy the one ship I want and even then I'm not buying nearly as many ships as I used to as leveling up a captain to fly them is quite the hassle now.
This is my Risian Corvette. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Though I didn't vote, here is what I generally do. If want to get a ship from a bundle, I'll wait until I can get the entire bundle, whether it's getting the Zen all at once, or just saving the Zen up over time. Though I haven't purchased any bundled ships yet. That is how I approach this topic. :)

Depends on if I like/want the console set...

I've bought bundles I'm happy with, one or two I'm not, and I've picked and chose a single ship before.

The only ship I've ever purchased that comes in a bundle is a TAC Oddy, I didn't know it was in a bundle at the time.

I'm a completionist. And typically I come up with some reasons to 'want' at least 2 out of three ships, then the bundle costs me same as those two individual ones would (and I get a spare ship I may want to use later, or a console of it, or a trait, or a costume).

If I couldn't come up with reasons to get at least two of the offered ships, I'll most likely pass on the bundle and it's individual ships.

None of the poll options quite fit, it depends on the bundle.

I play both Fed and KDF so in general the cross faction 3-packs are often worth the purchase, the 3 pack single faction are a bit iffy, the 9 packs are rarely worth it.
  • farmallmfarmallm Member Posts: 4,630 Arc User
It depends. Only pack I bought was the Galaxy one when they updated it some for T5. That pack was well worth it, as it gave a lot of goodies. Other time I just buy the single ship. Like the Andorian, I only bought the tactical version with the wing cannons. As I didn't really want the others. I have the Concorde on the list, so I won't be buying that pack. Just the ship.

I play a Fed main, with KDF and Romulan toons having been created as dilithium harvesters. Consequently, I tend not to buy cross-faction bundles (i.e. I'm saving for an Arbiter, but will probably pass on the bundle), but I've bought a couple (Pilot Escort and Command Battlecruiser) of Fed '3 of 9' ship bundles. That said, I have seriously considered cross-faction bundles (including continuing to toy with the T6 Battlecruisers), but I probably won't ever seriously consider a 9-ship bundle; I'm strictly F2P, and scrounging up the $120 worth of dilithium is just too much.

Well, as far as it goes for bundle ships right now, 60 bucks or even >100 bucks price points are not excessive...
    They're absurd.

One T6 ship, maybe not even fleet, costs as much as Tomb Raider 2013 Definitive Edition, complete of all DLCs and enhanced for next-gen. Just to name an example.
Driveclub with 20 bucks gives you one year worth of DLCs, released monthly.
With 120 bucks you can arguably empty the Steam Store, or buy 2 games on Day 1.

"Microtransaction" here lost the word "micro".

    Just my 60 dollars.

I've only bought 2 ship bundles (Don't count DS9, TOS, and Ent bundles because they aren't ship bundles.)

Vesta Pack and Delta Pack. Everything else has been single ship. Then again most of those were lower tier ships with only a few T5s.

I am not even sure if I would have counted Delta Pack or Legacy of Romulas as "ship packs", either.
Even though they are mostly that, they are also so strongly tied to the expansion in content, that the reasons between buying a regular ship pack and these packs can vary strongly. (But it doesn't really matter much, either...)

I did buy the Fed Command Cruiser 3 pack.. mostly with Dilithium.

Other then that, I have never purchased anything other then a single ship.

Since the game only really has one faction anyway I usually only buy the Fed ship.

Well, depends. If you play this game for fun, you probably will buy the bundle. Bundles have advantajes and of course, you have the full costume buying the bundle. I always go for the asthetics in first place, so for me, a bundle is a yes-yes, because 99% of the times, if you dong buy the bundle, you are missin custome parts that will make your ship to look far better.

I bought the Scimitar bundle figuring I could get some use out of her sister ships, play around with different builds for my 2 Romulans.

And for a little while I did. Then DR came.

I only use the Scimitar now because it is the only one I upgraded. I haven't bought another bundle since and don't plan on buying any future bundles.

The only bundles I've ever purchased are cross faction.

I'm not rich enough to buy the 9pack. If one captain gets a new ship, all captains should get a new ship. I've only purchased 3 individual ships because they could be used on more than one captain.

This is as close to what I prefer, It really depends on what the bundle has to offer vs a single select vessel.
