What are you going to do about Windows 10?

I use 8.1 and will NOT upgrade to 10.
Still worried they'll be repeating the control freakery of Vista (and the bit I heard about the new(ish) Xbox refusing to allow an owner to watch rented movies unless the 'approved' number of people or less are in the room is hardly encouraging in that regard.) Also the forced updates - I can kind of understand it from the security perspective, but to me it just seems like another way to control what someone can and can't have on their machine.

Plus, I don't actually know how accurate this is, but I was under the impression it was being deliberately designed without support for Steam, and based on some other anti-competitive practice in the industry, I'm willing to give that credence (although if someone can correct this impression, I'd welcome it.)

Steam runs fine on Windows 10.

Well, that's actually quite the relief. Like I said, it was just unsubstantiated rumour anyway, should have known better than to give it any credence.

OK, that's pretty terrifying about the XBox...what is it doing, using its sensors to spy on people?? :( Is that actually confirmed?

Yeah, if Microsoft had even blinked in that direction you can bet that Valve would sue their pants off. For that matter, EA would probably join in, expecting Origin to be next.

Doubtful. That would require the Kinect, I believe, and that peripheral is no longer packaged with every Xbox (mine doesn't have one and I don't want it to).

That was the original plan - rents apparently came with a certain 'viewing licence' with the kinect apparently detecting if this was being exceeded (not really spying, but still intrusive). Since that's no longer packaged, I guess that plan was thrown out the window.

Still, it's worth bearing in mind that most of the stuff I hear about post Windows 7 Microsoft products, while it comes from people who usually know what they're talking about, has a definite, shall we say, bias to it.

Regardless, any intrusiveness of the sort (and it would be certain there's something about no data-storage or transmission or some such in the terms of use should such things actually occur - particularly as it wouldn't be necessary anyway) would only be in the interests of licence or copyright protection or the like - I wouldn't necessarily like it, but at least there'd be some sort of reason.

If you want proper scariness in everyday products, well - mobile phones are the way to look, although I very much doubt, particularly in light of this, that even a tenth of the things that are said regarding those are true.

Always happy to be put straight on crazy conspiracy theory's. Sorry for spreading that muck here.

Will still be sticking to Win7, though. Nicest system I've used since Ubuntu that was PC optimised from the start.

I opted into Windows 10 as of yesterday. It's the last Windows version, since they're moving to a Windows-as-a-service model, similar to Gmail or a web browser, with Windows 10 being modified and updated regularly.

I know I have my reservations about it, but given things such as DX12 being exclusive to Windows 10, and seeing demos of the Windows 10 Beta... I'm sold on upgrading.

Windows 7 user. While I will eventually switch to Windows 10, it likely won't be until the last week before the free upgrade expires, and definitely not before the first major service patch comes out.

Same, i will wait till after the service patch and all is working fine before i switch, win 7 64 bit is working like a charm.

I'll give Windows 10 a shot, but I am only going to have it installed on my Dell laptop which is currently running Win 8.1.

I upgraded from Win 8 to Win 8.1. I did not notice that much of a difference other than the pseudo Start button, but FireFox (my preferred web browser) kept freezing from time to time. After doing some research I found that FireFox does have issues with Win 8.1. It does not affect everyone using FireFox, but it seems to be a known issue that has not been resolved.

Therefore, I will give Win 10 a shot to see if the problem has been fixed. If I has and I like Win 10, then I will keep that OS. Otherwise I will drop back down to Win 8.

At home I use both Windows 7 and 8.1, and in the office I use Windows 8.1.

I intend to upgrade, and pretty soon at that, too.

Regarding the "Metro" interface - as I understand it, on a regular desktop with just mouse and keyboard, it will bring the tiles into the start panel and focus you on the desktop. If you got a touch-enabled device like a convertible notebook or a tablet, it will behave more like Windows 8.1. The feature "Continuum" is suppose to allow you to make the switch in behaviour on the fly.

I'm still using Vista, so which option would you like me to vote in?

I am already using Windows 10 and literally typing this on it now..

Been a tester, or as MS likes to call it 'an Insider' for around a year.

The version I am on right now (10162) has been the best so far. Very stable, like 8.1 only much better.

Everything installs and plays as it did on 8.1, and I have not had any crashes even on the less stable builds.

I don't get why people associate Metro with touch. I have no touch screen monitors and I prefer the Metro UI. It keeps icons off of my desktop, gives me a quicker and easier way to access what I use the most, and a quicker and easier way to find what I need in the All Apps screen.

With the original build, Windows 10 asked you which UI you wanted during the install. After that, it was taken away and replaced with a Start Menu with tiles. All of the good elements of Metro are gone and the only way to get a full screen of tiles is to full screen the Start Menu. Because it's a Start Menu, you can still only search for your non-tiled apps and programs with the straight up and down bland menu. What makes it the worst is the horrible cheap looking gradient behind it! As blunt as it gets, Windows 10 is Windows Phone 10 running on your desktop and XBOX One!

Functionally, the OS is fairly stable in builds post 10130 but has moved away from what most Insider users really want, a choice! If Microsoft was to go back to the two separate UI choices during install, I would upgrade. Even if you happened to choose the UI you didn't want or wanted to try the other, you could change it through the Control Panel and simply needed to log off and log back on to have those changes take effect. Unfortunately, their choice to merge the UI's has alienated more of their customers than they had hoped to please.
