What I think about these rates is that a lot of the F2P Dil piggy banks have stopped making dil and have moved on
Actually the higher the rate the more Dilithium in the game. So it is not that people have stopped making Dilithium and "moved on." It is that people are currently making too much Dilithium - it is being made faster then people want to buy it. Because there is so much of it Buyers can demand more of it for their Zen.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
We need more ways to spend it like another holding etc.
Not sure if a new holding would work at all, I have so much Dil atm that I can probably fill the upcoming tier 5 base projects all by myself.
Think we just look at the results of previously installed and totally failed Dil sinks.
Why give the option to trash mountains for rarity upgrades but guard the salvage tech u can do it best with behind elite play only very few can enjoy. And even for those it far from enough.
Hand out 3 techs in a purple (elite) and 1 tech in a blue (advanced) reward box and things would regulate faster than any fleet holding could.

Shadow's point is that it's more or less holding steady at the moment. Daily or even weekly flucuations of 10% are neither noteworthy nor unexpected.
But, unless there's a new sink introduced this fall, expect the dil:zen exchange rate to shoot up again once the summer slump ends. I wouldn't be surprised if it fell to 200:1 by that time, or if it rockets to 400:1 by this time next year, again assuming no "new" sink is provided.
As far as I've gathered, a new fleet holding would likely be insufficient. They're better off getting the space middle class into the upgrade game, preferably by allowing mod selection, and without simultaneously increasing the cost.

I was not replying to Shadow. I was replying to betayuya; whose point seemed to be that the exchange rate is high because people have stopped earning Dilithium - presumable a low player-population post.
I agree that the game needs a new sink to bring the price back down. But that is out of my hands. Either Cryptic will add a new sink or they will not. Without a sink the only way to bring the price down would be to remove Events or decrease the Refining cap. I doubt they are going to do either of those.

As a F2P player, I can say it is high atm but, in reality it is just passed the 50% cap region by a little bit, which means it is finally actually starting to benefit zen sellers.
As a dilithium seller myself, I don't usually buy at this high of market, only because I am trying to net the most out of my dilithium but, at the same time so is the zen sellers so, I cannot blame them for the current asking prices atm.
It's a 2 way market, and atm, zen sellers are on the uphill.
Not really, as we can plainly see, there is little zen being offered, and even smaller dilithium being offered at the same time.
This is why I said it tanks quite often and, falls back down to a medium of large quantity movement again, before rising once again.

At the moment playing the exchange is like playing stocks, but it would be nice to be able to dump off in some manor some of the unrefined. (items/account bank or otherwise)
No, whales wouldn't need to spend money buying Zen to sell for dil then. They have mountains of unrefined dil, they buy off us because they need refined dil. If you make all that unrefined usable like refined then there is no need for them to buy refined and the dil-zen exchange dies and likely the game soon after. We need things to cost more refined dil so the demand for it goes back up and zen prices come back down.
While this would benefit people like yourself, it at the same time, would drive the exchange prices thru the roof, as farmers would undoubtedly do this for all of their toons.
...!
Then they should put a limit on how much dilithium you can post on the exchange to control the prices. Don't put limits on people who don't use the exchange very much/at all just to help the exchange. They should also let us transfer dilithium between toons through the account bank like EC so you can keep it in the account family so to speak.

I wish people would stop saying that the dilithium exchange is messed up, these people have no idea what real world economics looks like. We have reached a healthy medium of about 250/Zen and I believe it's the most beneficial combo for both buyers and sellers. I'm willing to buy Zen and trade it at these prices because I get a reasonable amount. In-game prices don't Fluctuate with the exchange. Neither do Zen store items of course.
In the real world prices move all over the place, Gold and Silver reached highs about 2-3 years ago if I recall and then dropped down to normal levels. It's simply the way of things, nothing new was added to the game so people had nowhere to spend dilithium and now they do. I think 200-250 is a good place for it to stay.
But again, unrefined dilithium needs to have some purpose inside the game. I'll leave it up to the DEV's what they want to do with it. Although I like the Spec point idea, 250k unrefined for a spec point and it will ONLY take unrefined dilithium so wallet warriors can't buy spec points with Zen.

You said it 'needs' to come back down. It doesn't. It's fine just the way it is. I'm tired of dealing with economically inept people like you. Get over yourself and put your shoulder to the grind-wheel just like everyone else.

That is actually not a bad idea. I'd be able to fill out half the next Spec tree in an instant... which is probably why they'll never do it.

That same limit, would potentially also be limiting zen sellers slightly.
And, I really doubt we will ever see your suggestion, for trading un-refined between characters, no matter what means is recommended.

Possibly, it will come back down at some point, and by then i'll have several million to convert on each of my 2 mains.

I know right? People always ask for the exact opposite thing that will help them. Explains a lot about how people vote on fiscal policy.
Oh and why haven't "raising the refinement cap" threads been included in the FTC?

You don't do them any service by presenting it in those terms.
More dil in the game means higher dil per zen.
That's something they'll understand.
