Wow, 90 bucks, when you drop 1800 trying to get a temporal science ship come back and do this again.

Who the hell spent $2000 trying to get a Wells?

Yeah, it's a great ship - but you wouldn't find me spending more than $30 worth of Zen for it.

You'd be suprised how much people are willing to spend on their hobbies.

You know every time I see one of these threads I think two thing. First where do you people get this much money to waste. Then I feel like maybe, just maybe there is a god and he may not be as bad as I think.

if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

i spent 90 dollars on opening those boxes and not one ship. i want to be either rembersed or i want my ship!!!! i know of a few other ppl who spent 4 times that and didnt get a ship. this is rediculous!!! WE WANT OUR SHIPS!!!!

Or you can realize that it is gambling... and deal with your lack of self control/ need for instant gratification.

BTW - I bought one pack this time and got the ship right off the bat. Go figure. There were countless dud boxes... you must have gotten mine this time. I have collected ALL the Elachi ships, and I don't really sympathize with your whining. I knew the odds for each ship, and used different strategies to get each one.

None of my strategies were gambling.

Please, Please, Please. I Tell you the Honest to God truth. The Elachi Sheshar ship is one of the worst ships in the game. Whats worse than Spending money to try and win won is actually winning one and finding out it is pure 100% TRIBBLE. The only thing that makes the ship a little and very little appealing is the trait. BUT IT SUCKS ALSO becasue it only works every 30 secs unlike other traits simular to it that activate every 10 secs. Please, Please trust me. The ship is junk. If you was to win it you wouldn't use it. Just go to ESD and cycle through all the maps while outside the space station. You won't see that many sheshars, not becasue they are rare but because they set in drydock not being used. If I could repackage mine I'd trade it to you cheap. Every faction has a 5/3 ship that is easily 2x better than the sheshar and alot cheaper. Ask anyone who has one.

Its just not worth the worry, time or money. Plus it flys like a Giant dump truck.

The ship does not handle like a pilot ship; those are fun for a change BTW. Strongly recommend the pilot-escorts to avoid dump-truck pain.

I also strongly recommend getting the entire console set so that you can appreciate the HAYWIRE ability. Combine Haywire and Feedback abilities, plus FAW , and the ship effectiveness goes up. Also consider using a slow torpedo as a finisher. If you just play it as a vanilla beam boat, it is somewhat lackluster.

But if you bought $100 in Zen when it was on sale (15% + ?6%?) = 1,2100 zen. If you then bought the keys on sale at 15% off = 142 keys = 370 million.

Planning ahead vs. instant gratification makes a huge difference.

Your logic has no place here on the forums . . .
Have you tried the new forum on your phone?

I have no sympathy for gamblers, you purchased the Zen and the R&D packs, you opened them, the fault is your own.

I unlocked 30 Temporal lockboxes in hopes of getting a Wells class, I didn't get any but I didn't come and rage on the forums because I accepted the risk when I spent the money.

It's like blaming a casino for your gambling addiction, or blaming a cigarette company for your illness, you can't fault the provider because of your own lack of self control.

True , but not all players "live in the game" , as that strategy requires .

Except casinos & the hotels associated with them tend to provide "free" incentives (think occasional "free Lobi" or the pittance that is the lifer/ subscriber "stipend") .
And as for the cigarette & alcohol industry ... -- don't even get me started , as that's social engineering level of brainwashing across several generations .

... but then again this does come from some guy who could not afford to buy one CrtDx3 Antiproton a couple of months ago and just dropped 355M for a Sheshar and now feels totally unmotivated ... . go figure ...

True however, "Intensives" aren't an excuse for lack of control especially if you know the risks before you began, People know the risks of Gambling but they still follow through with it, If they lose the fault cannot be placed on the Casino.

As for Cigarettes and Alcohol that's often a Pier Pressure thing I feel, many people especially Teenagers often feel pressured to take Cigarettes and Alcohol as they worry they will be seen less favourably if they don't because the General consensus is that if you drink yourself into a stupor It's "Cool" or if you get Higher than a Boeing 747 during flight then it's "Awesome" and all this somehow makes you look "Cool" and "Hip" and "Mature".

    After all...

What's not "Mature" and "Cool" about Dangerous Levels of Carbon Monoxide, High Blood Pressure, Liver Damage, Carcinogens and Cellular Necrosis? ;)

Would you go to Vegas and demand reimbursement after not winning anything? Welcome to "why gambling is bad."

Treat the ships as a bonus, not as a goal. If you start chasing lottery ships as the primary reason to open [pack/lockbox here], you're going to have a bad time.

Hmmm, the topic-starter have stormed off in the unknown direction with his butthurt over losing while gambling (And ignoring sensible advices how he can get the ship he wants so much with what he got from boxes)

So what's the point in still answering him ? :D

(Yeah, I know people tell they are leaving and taking all their friends with them and then - bang! - they are back. :D But it really looks like he at least won't be back any time soon)

First of all, thank you for supporting Star Trek online.

Don't feel too bad, there's a thread like this every few months ago and usually one crops up when Cryptic decides to offer a ship with r&d boxes, or doff packs or something like that. Gambling means that the first box you open has a 1% chance of getting the seshar (picking a percentage arbitrarily based on other posts) and the fifth box you open has a 1% chance of getting the seshar. And the seventh, eighteenth, fiftieth or a hundredth box all have 1% chance. Random numbers don't have a memory-your odds won't improve from box to box.

You had to learn that the hard way. I hope you stick around and try to learn it this time. I will think of you tomorrow when I convert some my dil to zen and vice versa. ;)

In general though I wouldn't change a thing. Cryptic doesn't need to publish the odds and the current setup of buying ZEN and choosing whether to use it on improved ingame services (like extra inventory slots or whatever) or gambling with r&d boxes and/or lockboxes works just fine.

As cold and harsh as it sounds the more people Cryptic "catches out" then the more money its bringing in. The more profit investors see and the more this game will be available to play for me and everyone. Fortunately I'm smart enough not to get caught out. The system works well for me.

Indeed I do open lockboxes, but I do so for all the other little goodies you can get that are pretty common like r&d packs, doffs, weapons, skills ect ect. Which I can either sell or use. If and/or when I do land the big ship its a pleasant bonus, not the goal of my playing with lockboxes.
