Strangest thing, why didn't the team use the transporter to retrieve his bat'leth?
Proof of the injury AND the genetic make-up of an iconian all in one.
Could have provided clues to their weaknesses.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
Thanks for the 'spoilers' tag...oh, wait...:D;)

Personally, I would have given the Sword of Kahless its own combadge to make certain it could always be retrieved, because its propaganda value was just too great even before it became the blade that maimed a demon. If nothing else, they could hang it somewhere for new recruits to be inspired by.
I wonder if what we interpreted as a disintegration effect was actually a transporter beam. Sure, the Iconian impaled Kahless and he seemed to die, but I'd think Iconian technology would be advanced enough to heal that sort of grievous wound. Possibly keeping him alive for experimentation? This might make sense if there was some sort of connection between the Iconians and Molor - not Molor from the in-game Grethor episode, but the original Molor from Klingon history who was defeated by the real Kahless. Perhaps this historical event was actually a previous Iconian attempt to conquer the Milky Way, by first taking control of the Klingon Empire for use as a servitor race (which makes sense, as that seems to be how the Iconians operate, like how they manipulated the Undine and Vaadwaur). Might explain too why the Iconians are so intent on attacking Qo'nos, for revenge....first they tricked the Undine into attacking (yes, the Undine attacked ESD too, but that was just a distraction to pull forces away from Qo'nos), and then Gateway To Grethor plus Brotherhood of the Sword....while Earth is relatively ignored. Yes, the Romulans were technically the first to be attacked, but that can be explained because they currently live in territory that used to be in the heart of Iconian space, plus New Romulus has a gateway.
Kahless died on a pointless mission that didn't accomplish anything, had no impact on the Iconians, and which he could easily have avoided so that he could achieve more important victories.
It was like he was brought into the mission not to lead House Pegh into battle, but as the token Klingon sacrifice.
Think about the status of the war before the House Pegh mission and the status of the war afterwards. Has anything changed? Why go through the effort of building up this mission and the characters if you're only going to pointlessly kill them?
Kuiama "Kui" del Solima, Dahar Master. Reporting to the high council on the loss of Kahless to the Iconians.

He is gone, yet he is not. I cannot say for certain he was destroyed. With my own eyes I saw his final battle. The creature was beaten. The creature managed to use its ability to portal, to appear behind the Emperor and appeared to strike him. Kahless dropped the Sword of Kahless when the creature took him. I could not tell if Kahless died, or was taken. It appeared as if his body was disintegrated, yet I have fought the Iconians, their heralds, and all of their servitor races and never seen a weapon effect like what I saw in that chamber. I checked the records to be certain. Kahless may be alive and in captivity. When he was taken the Sword of Kahless dropped from his hands. More herald constructs and servitors appeared and the team was forced to retreat. We were unable to recover the sword even by transporter.
My family, my clan has fought at the empires side for over 300 years. The Cartel Orions do not even consider us "True Orion" any more.. The Solima clan and house are unconcerned. Our duty is to the empire as it has always been for centuries. In my generation the Empire extended to us the honor of serving as members of the Klingon Defence Forces. It is an honor we do not take lightly. We are dishonored by the loss of Kahess to the demons. I petition the council for permission to go and recover the Emporer, and his Sword, with what allies and battle companions we can gather.
He is alive. The Demons would have chosen to take him so they could crush his spirit in captivity, to display him to the Empire as a beaten thing. But I know Kahless. Perhaps they could break his will in time. We must act as if he were dead. He cannot be held hostage against us.
As has always been the rule of the empire that hostages are dead things, and dead things have no value. I would go and return the dead to life. There is evidence to support the claim that the Iconians have meddled in the history of the Klingon people since before the Klingons took to the stars.
I am not Klingon by birth. I am Orion, and Female. But yet, I have fought, and bleed, and been wounded in combat many times in service to the Empire. I have slain its enemies and brought it vicotory many times. It is my home. The people of the Empire are my people.
I petition the council to permit me to raise an expeditionary force to go and recover Kahless or determine the story of his ending, and to recover his sword for the empire. There are two living souls who have sought the sword of Kahless. Worf, son of Mogh, and the Trill and federation captain Ezri Dax when she was known as Jadzia Dax if she still lives.
With the permission of the council, I will withdraw now and await the councils decision. Ka'plA!
Remember, he's a Klingon. To them, there's no better way than going down against impossible odds and fighting so ferociously that your enemy remembers your name. And T'ket will not be forgetting Kahless the Unforgettable any time soon.
You know, I didn't like the inclusion of Kahless at all at first, it seemed weird that the mightiest warrior of the empire, the embodiment of the search for honor and glory would form a black ops team with Klingon intelligence, and it seemed stupid he would sacrifice himself by going alone against something that is known to literally evaporate entire army's by giving them an evil glare.
But in retrospective, there is actually some merit to the idea. Kahless was a figurehead, he was there to do the klingon equivalent of smiling, waving and looking pretty. (Scowling, fist pumping and looking... menacingly?)
The high council would never allow him to head into big battles out of fear that their precious symbol would die, or worse, succeed and gather power he might use to usurp them. (See: Martok and Gowron)
He was pretty much getting old (and putting on weight) with his chance to die honorably and enter Sto'vo'kor fading every day, so it actually makes sense for him to seek battle underneath J'mpoks Radar, and the Duel with an actual Iconian would be the perfect opportunity to not only die with honor, but have the rest of the group spin a rousing tale around the "glorious battle".
Of course, this is all Kinda headcanon, but still, the alliance has their personal battle of Thermopylae now. It's a crushing defeat where the Team failed to achieve anything they meant to do and scarified more then the gain was worth, but it can be turned into a great tale of honor and glory to rouse the warriors before battle by the sheer power of well aimed Propaganda. ^^'

Star Trek transporters can pick up lifesigns, but a simple metal object may actually be hard to locate with a transporter sensor.
I disagree. When Janeway and company were on that Borg Cube and the Borg were generating interference, B'elanna locked on to the minerals in their bones, Skeletal Lock. By theory, metallic objects should be easier to pick up. I would think that there would be very little Baakonite in an Iconian base.
Conversely, if the legend is true and it was forged from a lock of Kahless' hair, then you'd just need to lock on to the sample of his genes in it and it would be almost as simple.
Kahless died on a pointless mission that didn't accomplish anything, had no impact on the Iconians, and which he could easily have avoided so that he could achieve more important victories.

Actually we brought back intel on the Iconians and their fleet from that mission, so it wasn't entirely pointless at all. It was a Xanatos victory, not the victory we necessarily wanted, but a victory that keeps us in the game, and may lead to a greater victory down the line. Besides. We and house Pegh survived. Compared to throwing a fleet at the problem like at Starbase 234, New Romulus, and Laehnas this mission was fairly successful considering the risk cost. And Kahless' death is gonna light a FIRE under the Empire's TRIBBLE. Taking on an Iconian is gonna bring all the more glory now that avenging Kahless is on the line.
Actually, I figured that when t'Ket said "You dare strike a god" he should have answered.
"Dude. Klingon. We kill our gods." and then strike it down for good...
That's what I was hoping for too.

Edit: Oh, and I'm sure given enough time, transporter chief could lock on the blade. But then again, given enough time, we could simply pick it up. There was just no way to save it, that time.
Of course you could argue the space portion of the mission then didn't show that 'urgency' well. That could have been better.

He won't be missed. What was in he in like 2 FEs. Not much a person to worry about loosing.
Except for a TNG episode, references to him once or twice in DS9, and all the stories and tales of the ancient Kahless that have forged the Klingon ideals on honor.
All that aside, I do wish Cryptic gave us a few more missions with him leading up to this, so we could bond with him a bit more. Maybe hear his frustrations about not being allowed to go into battle by politicians, or his worries of dying an old man on an honorary throne.
What we really need is a few missions for Fed, KDF, and Romulan Republic interspersed in earlier levels that involve Kahless in some fashion, or a few new Iconian War missions before this featuring Kahless. Perhaps an attack on him that we thwart or something, something that ignites his warrior's heart.
Oh my, that's the first time I hear that line in english. It's terrible! You just ruined Conan the Barbarian for me!

We just need a bigger bat'leth. Backed by science. Klingon Science.
