Good afternoon,
Upon the release of Season 10, I was very excited as usual to check out the new reputation to see how the game would change in the future. I opened my reputation tab, and looked under Iconian Resistance. Everything looked rather exciting until I saw that at Tier 4 we get a passive ability so game breaking that it may be the final nail in the coffin for many players.
This ability is called Radiant Detonation Matrix. Below is a brief description of the ability, as well as its tooltip:
Radiant Detonation Matrix
Chance to Inflict AoE Damage and Remove Buffs
Directed energy weapons have a chance to deal additional radiation and remove buffs in a small area around the target. This benefits from Exotic Damage.
To Target: 2.5% chance: XXXX Radiation Damage in 1km Radius at Target and removes Buffs.
Upon reading this I was stunned at the immense power described by reading the description and tooltip. After my initial read-through of this ability, I understood it as a Subnuke that has no cooldown, and functions similar to plasma explosions, only with a very nasty side effect that removes all buffs.
Knowing the immense negative effects this would have on the game, in particular PvP, I decided to load up Tribble to test this passive ability, praying that I was wrong. All I did to test it out was use my standard ship for both PvE and PvP, add Radiant Detonation Matrix, and fire all my energy weapons. Please note that in this test, I only fired all of my energy weapons, and did not activate any additional abilities.

Thank you!
As you can see, the results were as horrifying as I initially thought. In the video you can clearly see my opponent activate all of his buffs only to have them wiped out moments later by a simple proc from a reputation ability! At the same time, this proc did roughly 3000 hull damage, not an underwhelming amount compared to other reputation abilities in itself. In addition, please note that there is no counter to this ability and there is nothing you can do to prevent loss of buffs.
Just imagine a five player Fire at Will team each equipped with Radiant Detonation Matrix. Why even use your buffs?
While it is clear that something needs to be done about this ability, I do not think a straight up nerf is a solution. This would make it even more useless than it already is in PvE, and it would not be of much use in PvP. What I suggest is changing this ability to something different all together. We already have more than enough exotic damage in this game and do NOT need any more! The buff clearing it provides is beyond ridiculous!
To the developers reading this. You have roughly two and a half weeks before people start unlocking the T4 Iconian reputation on the Holodeck server. I recommend you change this ability before then...

Cryptic has shown a precedence for changing abilities/power(s)/affect(s) multiple times within the span of two weeks (Crystalline AP being the most recent example), so making a significant change to this trait is well within their power.
As a tangent leading to a fundamental level of this discussion, is there any half-way serious thought going into this game anymore concerning how abilities interact with each other? Better yet, does anyone even care anymore?

I knew using Kinetics would be playing the game on hard mode, but what I didn't realize was how bad the deck is stacked against Kinetics.
Yet again, why even bother? Global cooldowns for everyone, buff stripping, debuff clearing. You name it, it isn't needed, but they add it.
As long as folks keep admitting that they're trying to PvP...Cryptic will be forced to continue adding things.
I C wut U did thar.

Here's another vid of it from Tribble. https://youtu.be/pI3B8dmGM-g
Every reputation track seems to gets released with something OP by design, or OP by a bug.
These things get a nurf or a fix as soon as the largest possible number of people have spent time or resources getting them. This is part of the on-going plan to maximize outcry on the forums.
This trait will probably get the subnuke doff treatment in a couple of months. Any one else remember when those things were valuable?
I could be wrong. Maybe it wont get fixed. Maybe this will turn out to be a PvP equalizer despite our expectations? Maybe new players will be better able to compete with me and my established characters huge number of passive active and reactive buffs?
Naaaah.
Worst idea ever...crazy...unbelievable...
This is better than subnuke which is the defining sci ability, this not only undermines scis, it makes what's left of team based PvP extinct.
Great move devs...sigh...
I have added it to my original post.
Cheers...
Can we ask what the intention was behind this ability? We could offer alternative suggestions.
Even if there is a 1 Min "Immunity", it's still OP since that's a lower CD than SNB anyways AND you can hit multiple people with it with FAW or CSV.
Even if there is an internal lockout of 1 minute, it's still a lower CD than SNB.
Furthermore, this whole ability is a wash in PvE since few NPCs actually use Buffs and those that do don't use them often. This ability seems to be a PvP-centric addition and is quite OP as it stands.
-it has less cd time than snb
-cant be countered/prevented
-requires no timing at all, just fire on the enemies
-everyone can get it, regardless of the career
That's too much, c'mon. This should be changed, like Kurlam doff. I mean, if they don't want to remove the debuff part of the proc, just change it from "remove all buffs" to "remove x random buffs", with x less than 3, with a longer internal cooldown and an immunity. Or make it that remove buffs only versus Iconians in PvE, not versus players, for the love of the "balance".
Something has to be done on this rep passive anyway, because in this state will ruin for sure those few pvp matches still out there
The Iconians run as much buffs as all other NPCs. Barely any if at all.
This Rep ability means absolutely nothing for PVE since NPCs don't do ****. But in PVP, this is a different matter entirely.
Well, per shot would be " OMG ! ".
However, with FAW and CSV, it's still too OP the way it is and I think we both agree that in PvE you don't really need it .

Then when the boards are merged with the rest of PWE, it'll just disappear entirely... PvP, what PvP? :P
The most OP ability is Destabilizing Resonance Beam...not because of what it does, but because of the visual FX of it - sending the player off into a seizure and leaving their ship open to be destroyed by minimum weapon power turret fire.
Between this and Kemocite, now is a great time to dial down your graphics settings.

it's a conspiracy to sell more headache medicine lol
but seriously, yeah, the FX does need to be dialed down a bit.
Will it affect ship-purchases?
