I'm in the process of having to move, and thus my internet is going to be downgraded. 3Mbps seems to be about what I can afford for the most part, since 6Mbps is MORE THAN DOUBLE the price of 3Mbps (19.99 versus 49.99 for 6Mbps). They really like to TRIBBLE you with internet only.
So yeah that is where I stand, not much else to say.
Easily, on major patches you may have to do overnight patching but gameplay should be smooth, also you may want to disable patch on demand, it's not that bad but it can slow down other stuff you might be doing while playing.
I have 3M DSL, and it's fine. Patching is obviously slower, including the just-in-time patching, but not terribly so. The only times I experience lag or rubberbanding is when everyone else is reporting it, too.
Fifty dollars for 6mbps? Your ISP sucks, im sorry, cause that is an absolute rip off of epic proportions, you can get 105 where I'm at for about that, maybe a little less if you get in on a promotion.

He's probably out in the sticks. Not all locations have access to fibre connections after all!

The 105 I'm talking about is not Fios, they advertise only 50 mbps, but it wasn't the speed i was saying sucked really, but the cost for that speed, it's ridiculous.
Yes it is, I've played for quite some time on 3, just be prepared for major lag in certain resource-heavy maps (Dyson Ground BZ for example). Sorry to hear about the prices though. Right now I'm running 18 for the same price as your 3, so maybe you should look for a different internet provider in the meantime.
I'm running 75 Mbps charter at an effective download of around 40 Mbps on a gaming rig. Lag occurs consistently on certain maps ... And rubber banding and server disconnects etc. 3mbps should be ok the other issues however may be more likely at cryptics/ cogent server end.
a few tips though to optimise your connection. Keep a hardline connected to your modem. Don't play sto over wifi.... The game has issues with wifi for some reason. a particular one is a long load screen 8 to 15 minutes after a patch.
While you are playing switch off devices that may be connected to your wifi.
There is a command that you can key in to constantly ping your modem to keep it active using the parameter -t .... Google that and it will tell you how to do it.
Sto game packet data is sent in chunks and sometimes some of the packets are dropped travelling from their server through your ISP and to your modem. This is a likely another reason for some disconnects. ask your ISO provider if online gaming is viable on your particular Internet connection. Sometime the ISPs deliberately blocks games servers to open out bamdwidth space for the rest of their clients. This is an age old tactic used by ISPs especially ones that provide slower connections. That's all I can think of about now.
Not too far from where I am, and that would definitely explain the limited options.
For those not familiar with the geography of Michigan, the larger part of the state, the Lower Peninsula, is shaped like a mitten, and that far North of Detroit is the thumb of that mitten. It's not terribly far from a population center, but it's not on the way to anything, so nobody builds out their network infrastructure in that direction. It's a nice place to live, except for getting decent internet speeds.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.
How fast is a 3g phone? I often set mine as a hotspot and log in through it. Works quite good.
Depends on which carrier you are using and where you live. And don't forget that it also depends on the phone as well since internal antennas and wireless receiver electronics can affect the signal strength the phone is receiving. Below is an article about this from 2013 using an iPhone. Basically nationwide T-Mobile has the best speed with AT&T as a close second. Verizon is a very distant 3rd with Sprint being the absolute worse.
